Jape and Fight Like Apes experience European festival difficulties

There has been a mixture tragedy and frustration for Irish acts at European festivals this weekend, which have been at the mercy of terrible weather conditions. Jape, due to play at the Pohoda Festival in Slovakia, were forced to cancel when their stage collapsed ahead of their arrival on site, with reports of one death and several injuries. Fight Like Apes, meanwhile, suffered less tragic consequences but were also forced to abandon plans to play in Spain as the Benicassim festival was also struck by high winds, leading to cancellations by Kings Of Leon and Maximo Park. Fight Like Apes will be re-releasing their debut album And the Mystery of the Golden Medallion on July 17th. Not huge news in itself, as everyone should already have a copy of this stellar record. But it will be accompanied by a bonus disc of B-Sides and Remixes. This will include the brilliant 'Canhead' and Richie (Jape) Egan's remix of 'Battlestations'. I cannot wait to get my hands on this. Fight Like Apes - Battlestations (Jape remix) This has been a long time comin. I first heard a version of this remix back in August or September last year and I've played it in nearly every DJ set I've done since then. It's certainly one of my favourite remixes of the last 18 months. May Kay's never sounded as varied, Jape's never done such a banging remix and it totally changes the vibe of the original in a subtle manner.
