by Kristen Bialik Movie - La Belle Verte / The Green Beautiful (1996) What's on Network Awesome today? "But people like that can't get hold of weapons now, and they're easy to swim away from. Even if they found a grenade or a machine gun or a knife or whatever left over from olden times, how could they ever make use of it with just their flippers and their mouths?'' -Kurt [...]
The Black and Blue Bowl at Webster Hall annually features a variety of hardcore bands. Considering my hardcore roots, I thought I would know more people at the show, but the bill was mostly mid-period bands. I did see some great metal shirts throughout, which made me immediatley comfy- Behemoth, Sodom, Gorguts..and at some point I did hear some Celtic Frost over the PA. The sold out crowd surfed, dove, piled-on and stared in awe at the slew of bands presented in this 9 hour day. There were no barriers in front of the [...]

'Iron Sky' (UK Release: 23 May '12) // Words: Ced Yuen Nazis from the Moon: that's the concept for 'Iron Sky' , which was scheduled for a single-day release** before going straight to DVD. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the ridiculous concept and low budget, it fares no worse than something like 'Transformers 3' . In 2018, the US president (a thinly veiled Sarah Palin spoof) sends [...]

'The Dictator' (UK Release: 16 May '12) // Words: Saam Das Sasha Baron Cohen rose to fame with his man(dem) of the people interviewer Ali G, following up with the increasingly controversial Borat and Bruno, each of which spawned their own feature films. Cohen has returned with a new character, the charmless leader of a fictional North African state, Admiral General Aladeen, in 'The Dictator' - a comedy filled with crass humour, occasionally poignant political satire and dubious romantic [...]

The first time you hear Mission Man, it's hard not to be reminded of the Shaggs. Though the Ohio-based rapper works within the general realm of hip-hop and the Shaggs traded in bizarro-world '60s pop, the initial reaction you'll have is quite similar, "I've never heard anything like this before." Born Gary Milholand, Mission Man has been recording and performing wherever anyone will have him since 1997, just prior to his eighteenth birthday. He's recorded hundreds of songs over the course of eleven albums, writing, producing, and releasing them completely on his own. He [...]
There's nobody like Paul Williams . He's written hits for The Carpenters AND Kermit The Frog (and many, many others over several decades). He was in a Sunshine-Pop band called The Holy Mackerel with his brother Mentor (who later wrote Drift Away for Dobie Gray). He played a kid in The Loved One when he was already in his mid-20's. He played an Ape in Planet of the Apes. He wrote the songs and appeared in Phantom of the Paradise. I could go on and on . Now he's the subject on a [...]

'The Raid' (UK Release: 18 May '12) // Words: Saam Das Already one of the most hotly talked about films of the year , 'The Raid' may well go down as a cult action movie in years to come. Combining the likes of 'Die Hard' , Attack The Block and John Woo 's finest efforts, 'The Raid' isn't quite the sum of influences. Considering 'The Raid' [...]

Yep, the headline pretty much says it all. Here We Go Magic was driving along and saw none other than John Waters (yes, the John Waters) hitchhiking. So they picked him up . I would make a joke, but this story is too bizarrely amazing to be sullied by some ridiculous Cry Baby reference.
There's some musical comedy coming at you this weekend Scenestar readers! Once again The Dan Band are back this Friday, May 18 to take over Club Nokia. You can get your laugh and dance on with The Dan Band when...
This Fucking movie. When I saw this movie there was no google or IMDB. I went into it not knowing much more than what the VHS box said. I was making my way through all the foreign films that looked...

'2 Days In New York' (UK Release: 18 May '12) // Words: Lauren Johnson-Ginn Co-written, directed by and starring Julie Delpy , '2 Days In New York' is a remarkable feat of multi-tasking. It's also a witty culture-clash comedy that showcases the oft-overlooked acting talents of Chris Rock , with hilarious results. Although '2 Days In New York' is a follow-up to 2007's '2 Days In Paris' , [...]
