These Wildcat! Wildcat! tracks kind of sounds like what indie-orchestra-pop band Final Fantasy would do if they decided to migrate to anthem rock a la M83 or Justice. Both tracks have a solid rock beat that sometimes ventures into hip-hop, are set up in concretely delineated sections reminiscent of a set of symphonic movements, and... yes, are a little bit twee. Not too much, though. Certainly not She And Him territory. "Mr. Quiche" is my favorite. Wildcat! Wildcat! - Mr. Quiche by Wildcat! Wildcat! [...]

Hero Muzik Vol. 1 by K-Murdock Hero Muzik is an instrumental series from producer K-Murdock featuring remixes of the themes of the protagonists of some of his favorite role-playing games. Final Fantasy 6 has always been K's favorite of Square's classic RPG franchise, so he decided to base the first volume of the Hero Muzik series off of the game's 14-playable heroes & heroines. This project aims to pay respect to the timeless music of FF6 composer & video game legend Nobuo Uematsu via K-Murdock's signature "neo sonic" productions!
Song: "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan" Artist: Dentl (with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie) Year: 2001 Album: Life is Full of Possibilities In 2001, my interest in music underwent a great and wondrous revival that started with my first listen to Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane over the Sea , continued with my discovery of Modest Mouse and Godspeed! You Black Emperor and by the time the year was over, I was a full-fledged devotee to this [...]

Stories of the Vita failing and a 13% fall in sales from all things games-related leave 2012 off to a bad start. Gamers everywhere are worrying if 2012 will be a good year for the video games industry or not. Let's back-track to last year when the 3DS was released. The sales were disappointing at first, many said the console was going to fail because of its gimmicky 3D and expensive price. There were even reports suggesting the 3D effects made users feel ill! It seems news sites everywhere wanted it to fail but look [...]

Swedish duo Korallreven just released a glorious new take on their jam 'As Young As Yesterday.' A drawn out affair, the seven-minute tune builds from ethereal whispers and grows into the soundtrack of one of those moonlit balearic nights. Check out the rendition, entitled 'The Final Fantasy,' below. Snag An Album By Korallreven over yonder .

Inspired by our Dubstep Remixes of Rock Classics , this time around we're taking our favorite 802s & 902s video games and coiling the shit out of 'em with style . It originally started out as just general remixes of video game themes, but after compiling the majority of them, it turned out to be mainly dubstep. Unfortunately, that led to a few good remixes getting cut for now , most notably a favorite hip-hop Mario mashup of mine. I tried my darndest to get the most memorable classics - such as [...]

Of viool spelen.

I guess I only cover covers now. So, here's a cover by Hooray For Earth of Owen Pallett's Lewis Takes Action from his record Heartland. Hooray For Earth does a fine job and Owen Pallett , formerly known as Final Fantasy, seems to be of the same opinion tweeting, "This is pretty much how the song was supposed to sound." Photograph by Steven Walter South by Southwest is kind of like the Twitter of music festivals. It's peppy, popular, easy to mock, highly corporate and desperate to hide that fact with little stabs at techy subversiveness. The scene on the ground is as though social networking itself was suddenly given life by a bored trickster god, as musicians of every flavour and every level of grunginess mingle with industry suits and club kids on spring break. The fact that for the first time in my life I was spending a good portion of my time in [...]
Hay muchas personas que no le ven el chiste de estar horas y horas pegados frente a un monitor con video juegos. Es por eso que si son de este tipo de personas, les recomendamos que se den una vuelta por el "Video Game Live", este espectáculo ayuda a la [...]

Quick...immediate names that spring to mind when the mention of Canadian musical acts come up in conversation? If you are imagining Celine Dion, Nickelback, Bryan Adams, KD Lang, Barenaked Ladies, Hedley, Wide Mouth Mason, Three Days Grace, Theory of a Deadman, Swollen Members, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne or Alanis Morissette...shame on you. Although these bands and (questionable) musicians helped to shape the landscape of the Canadian Music Scene, they do little convey how talented our country truly is. I meant to put this post together after Arcade Fire pulled off their Grammy victory for [...]
This latest Final Fantasy title takes place before the events that occurred in 2009's Dissidia. The gameplay is based on solo (1v1) battles, which have players deciding between a buff (Bravery attacks) and an HP-reducing attack. This strategy is further varied with the inclusion of EX Cores on the battle field, which further buff characters' [...]
Filed under: Exclusive , Awards , Q + A , Junos Blocks Recording Club Owen Pallett has been a part of some of the most interesting, complex and influential popular music this side of the millennium, and yet few Duran Duran fans will know that their favourite band's new album's grandeur was created by the Toronto-based ingénue. As an arranger, he's created sweeping string arrangements for Pet Shop Boys [...]
