What the fuck happened to Finally Punk? Why is M'Lady Records referring to them in the past tense and saying this LP version of 20092s Casual Goths release "stands in tribute to their amazingness?" Can somebody PLEASE tell me what the fuck is going on coz I REALLY like this band!! Raw, DIY, dont-give-a-fuck, recorded-in-the-living-room album type band. 1 minute songs. So unpretensious its impossible - and they did it. Those "in the know" would have heard their version of Negative Creep: "Kurt Cobain is dead. I'm not Kurt Cobain. But I am a negative creep." No-one else could top [...]

While I was in LA this past weekend, I was able to check out some of the Origami Vinyl LA Approved Show @ Bar Melody. Here are some photos and mp3s... First up is Future Ghost . Listen: Scream White Noise (mp3) This mp3 does not convey the heaviness that was Kissing Cousins . Listen: Red Lamb (mp3) [...]
The moment I heard Coasting , the comparisons to Finally Punk , the Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls come to mind. I have friends who went to see the Dum Dum Girls at the Brudenell Social in Leeds and the one word that keeps comin up is that the Dum Dum Girls are stuck-up " knobheads ". I haven't met Coasting in real life but their email to me reveals a lot: Fiona and Madison seem, feel, look and sound like nice people! And I like nice people! [Coasting - Kids] [...]

If you read the bios of our writers here at girlpants, one of the things you'll inevitably notice is that every single one of them spends and inordinate amount of time discussing the subject's childhood, generally in fond if overly wacky terms. Mike was born under a bad sign in Death Valley; Ben had an idyllic childhood, filled with boats; Joel matured into a rugged outdoorsman in the wilds of West Boca Raton, while somehow remaining perpetually 13 years old (this part is true); Niina was raised by bears. Jason, well... we're not sure he was ever a child. [...]
Jagged sounds provide the backbone to the primitive, rapid-fire rhythms on this debut full-length.
Uh... drg8769atosifj yeah!! Has Trent Rampage snapped out of that temporary melancholic-electronica lull yet? Helll yeah. Tomorrow night, Austins' FINALLY PUNK arrives in Leeds for a Friday Night pub brawl, and you just know this is going to be fun yeah!!! FINALLY PUNK sounds like, and I'm thinking, a reaalllly drunk Mika Miko trying to have a deep conversation with The Vivian Girls on crack. I am totally up for having some no wave thrash punk [...]
I haven't seen her in ages. We used to go out in high school, but a lot has changed since then. I'm married now, I've got Jared, who she's never met, and I weigh a bunch more (ha ha). I've found myself guessing what she's like now, I picture her face on a slightly taller body with a bit more wrinkles. She was funny, like a bit crazy, she would make weird sounds and motions with her hands. But I liked her a lot, and I'm thinking about her. Why do I keep thinking about her? I feel like I [...]
Walking up to the Smell Friday night, I see a slight man with bushy hair and unusually well-tailored casual wear walking a few feet behind. Ian Svenonius walking the streets is just like finding a mint copy of a Beatles Butcher LP in a dollar bin, a serendipitous October surprise. So I asked him how the Chain And The Gang tour was going. He wearily replied, "We've been on tour for 43 days, with only two days off. I'm kind of tired, but it's a good time, I guess." An honest answer. His newest band, Chain And The Gang, [...]
It was a show that might have looked like a bill at CBGB's, with much less cheap beer and presumably cleaner restrooms. read more

Instead of clamoring about what should be considered the best of 2008 (that'll come later), I say take some time and look back on December 2007. Downloadable: "December 2007" (box.net zip) The Tracks: 1. "Business Cats" (box.net mp3) by Mika Miko 2. "No Being Disgusting (Live)" (box.net mp3) by Screaming Females 3. Austin's Finally Punk give riot grrrl a shot in the arm with their latest 7". Another triumph in M'lady's already growing roster of artists. Finally Punk - Hypertension 7" Despite the rather lackluster and oddly off base name, Finally Punk have a talent for mixing riot grrl charm with post-punk mannerisms on this too short shot of a strangled single. Most tracks barely hit the minute mark but the band manages to pack a pretty [...]

Austin rocks, mayne! Finally Punk! Hey everybody, just a few words about 2 of my favorite all-girl punk bands here in Austin, "Finally Punk" and "Girl In A Coma". One of my favorite things about Finally Punk is their "Influences" list on their Myspage page : "skrewed up thrash clique, friends wearing flannel, gator rogowski, a cellphone lifestyle, butthole surfers, the 11th dimension, ice sk8rs, frumpies reunion in a cemetary, mariah, germs, suburbia, esg, black flag, 1991-1994, the raincoats, the game m.a.s.h., nirvana, slits, dropping twelve hits of acid, kleenex, teenage boys, gg allin [...]
FINALLY PUNK ANNOUNCE NEW RELEASES Here's the latest Myspace bulletin from long-dormant Austin punk giants Finally Punk : "We uploaded our new track: "Hypertension", to promote our forthcoming 4-song EP on M'Lady's Records this Fall. Germs of Youth will be releasing a 7" single: "Six Years Doing Time" b/w "Negative Creep" and maybe another? PPM is releasing a DVD compilation, "New Video Works", with videos by: ABE VIGODA, BARR, BLACK BLACK, DEERHUNTER, ERASE ERRATA, FINALLY PUNK, HAWNAY TROOF, HIGH [...]
As someone who likes vaguely bionic shit that invites fidgeting, I was sad to see this New York Times article about the demise of the cassette . Sometimes, I think of cassettes as little caged birds that sing to you before being devoured by the very machine that wrings forth their paeans to "Letting Her Cry" or "Only Wanting To Be With You." (I'm specifically thinking of my dubbed copy of Cracked Rear View that got eaten a while back.) Not to mention that they are, as the article points out, still useful for [...]

SF psych'ers, Lumerians have an EP that is just filled with krauty-goodness. They mix up synth and organ and bass and drums and some vibraphone for good measure. But no guitars? Don't worry, you won't miss 'em. Listen: "Corkscrew Trepanation" (mp3) "Orgon Grinder" (mp3) Myspace page is here . Subterranean Elephants! Recording Company is here . Consider Clicking - p'fork has two bits of digital culture for your consuming ears (and eyes). (1) The new digitalious Animal [...]
I can't remember when is the last time I bought a 7'' by an UK indie-rock band, I swear, I don't remember when, but I have thought a lot about the why*. Perhaps it is that the dynamics of the music industry in this country where so-called indie (aka indie schmindie) ...

[mp3] What the Fuck, Missle + info: Finally Punk

Crap Crap... I both dillied and dallied last night (and waited for the G Train for like, I don't know... forever?) and I missed Mika Miko at Sound Fix . Grrrrrrrr. Some (but not a lot of) deets here . Downloadable: "Too Cute To Puke" (box.net mp3) .tk page is here . Deleted Art page is here . Kill Rock Stars page is here . ppm page is here . photo source: [...]
Awright, so I know what some of you high production value virtuoso types out there are gonna say, I'll be first so we're all in the same wavelength: 'these girls can't play for shit'.
