Roughly a year after the release of Fine Steps ’ first LP, Boy’s Co. , the Sacramento native foursome is back with a new 7”, All Day Long . The upbeat jangle and surf-rock guitar is offset by singer Julian Elorduy’s deep vocal undercurrent, almost echoing Ian Curtis. The vocals and the extra jangle are what set this song apart from the rest of the Beach Fossils/DIIV/Surf Club type surf rock emerging these days. Plus, Fine Steps name has absolutely no reference to water sports. Even cooler is Elorduy’s DIY music video for [...]

Recording what could be the best art-pop record of the late-802s is a pretty incredible feat, recording it in 2012 is another thing all together. Somehow the ever changing line-up of this SF Bay by-way-of Sacramento project pulled it off. Lead by former Mayyors drummer Julian Elorduy and backed by a rotating cast of of Northern California's finest (Ganglians, G.Green, The Mantles, etc.), Fine Steps landed on a lot of "Best of 20123 lists with their self-released, vinyl-only "Boy's Co." LP last year. It's hard not to notice that the bright, reverb heavy guitars, snapping drums and songs [...]

Beyond the Bay Area: A Sacramento Mixtape (Podcast #297) It's not technically part of the Bay Area - and by "technically," of course, we mean "at all" - but we've been known to cheat a little bit and claim a good number of Sacramento bands as adopted locals over the years. Can you really blame us? Plenty of acts from the state's capital have made an big impact on independent music, including Death Grips, Chelsea Wolfe, and Trash Talk. All three of those groups eventually migrated to Los Angeles, with Death Grips leaking their latest album [...]

Up-and-coming NYC-based indie rockers Parquet Courts — whose lineup includes Andrew Savage of the Texas garage rock group Fergus & Geronimo — will headline an excellent roster at the Hemlock Tavern on January 16th that includes Andy Jordan of LENZ's glam/punk solo project Andy Human . Parquet Courts are touring in support of their 2012 LP, "Light Up Gold", which Savage has described as a return to "America's scandalous origin s". Sacramento's Fine Steps , who write pop rock 'n roll ditties with a smooth, rich vocal style, round out the lineup. Light Up [...]

Is Sacramento the new Stockton? It's certainly the birthplace of Fine Steps , the surf pop project of 26-year-old Sacramento native and former Mayyors drummer Julian Elorduy. Other members include guitarist Kyle Hoover and bassist Alex Sowles of Ganglians and Dylan of G. Green, all also hailing from California's capital. The band's first LP, Boy's Co. , was recorded at Tiny Telephone and will be released on Elorduy’s own Song Records in April/May. Until then, you can listen to one of the tracks, "Painted Church," below. [...]

Mist and Mast - "Getting Out Soon" The Make Out Room sits in the center of a hot scene - Cafe's Lolo and Revolution and a mini-park across the street and all - and yet it operates in relative quiet and on its own terms. One such example - the happy hour show. For whatever reasons, the management often splits the evening between live music early and DJ sets later- the music afficionado's penchant to still be napping or eating before 9:30 be damned. And [...]

If you're anything like me, you know how difficult it can be to keep track of all of the new music that's constantly floating around the Internet. Here's our latest month-in-review mix collecting some our favorite new (or new to us) songs recently posted on the website. Gathered in the mix are seventeen new tracks from Bay Area bands that were posted on TheBayBridged.com in November, with links below to download each of them individually. The Bay Bridged - Best of the Blog November 2011 Mixtape Tracklisting: [...]
A prominent narrative going into CMJ this year was the surge in the popularity of hardcore music, and at the forefront of that discussion was Sacramento's Trash Talk. Though Trash Talk have been together, and been very good, for a number of years, they pretty much stacked paper at CMJ, from a press clip standpoint. Trash Talk came to embody a city that no one really knew much about - outside of that they have a former NBA fan favorite as a mayor - but what they did know wasn't pleasant. Sacramento is a reputably scuzzy, rundown city, [...]

Fine Steps - "Tomorrow For All Of Today" Sacramento, the criminally-under-the-radar home for a bunch of talented bands, has done it again with Fine Steps , a band led by former Mayyors drummer Julian Elorduy, joined by Ganglians' Alex Soles and Kyle Hoover. This is some very un-Mayyors stuff, but, that being said, "Tomorrow for All of Today" is some excellent jangle-pop. The band's Bandcamp page says this song is from the Boy's Co. LP, out in 2012. It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. You can stream (and scrobble ) all the songs in this mix using the ex.fm player at the bottom of the page OR you can just download any or all of the tracks at your leisure and play them using a digital media player of your [...]
