Today, we're introducing a new series called Area Codes, and the focus of this biweekly feature is local music scenes across the United States and the globe. When I moved from the D.C. music scene to Farmington, NM I expected close to nothing in the area of "good music." I got less than that. In my most recent move to Pocatello, ID, home of Idaho State University and a handful of fantastic bars, I expected at least a little more. Boise's indie/alternative rock legends Built To Spill rolled into town to play the Granada last week coinciding with the venue's sixth anniversary party. Built To Spill was one of those bands in the 90s that combined the wash and noise of some seriously distorted and loud guitars with some sublter, softer vocal styles to great effect.
