SXSW finds itself just a month away and Pitchfork have announced that Fiona Apple , who hasn't played more than a handful of shows since 2007, will be performing at their official showcase. Taking place on 15 March at the 400 hundred capacity Central Presbyterian Church in Austin, her opening performance is likely to be one of the most packed showcases of the festival. Fiona Apple's new record is due to drop at some point this year.

No, I'm not talking about the inanely and unoriginally titled "Give Me All Your Luvin'," by Madonna (featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.). To these ears, it's possibly the worst-ever first single from a new Madonna album ( MDNA , speaking of inanely titled, due March 26), a paint-by-numbers pop song that doesn't even attempt to be groundbreaking or an essential part of the Madonna canon. It will likely have a healthy debut on next week's Hot 100 (though not enough to beat Kelly Clarkson to the top), thanks to the double promotional shove of the video's [...]

It's been quite a while since I've delved in the world of album covers in my ongoing album art lover series, but I was inspired by Sharon Van Etten's sleeve for her brilliant new album, Tramp (which is streaming on NPR today by the way) to explore the ever-popular face cover. They say that 93% of communication is non-verbal, which perhaps explains why the face-cover has endured for so long. You can usually get a good idea of the album you're about to hear by the expression and composition of the [...]

We're but a few weeks into 2012, but the year has already offered up love ("Glory" and baby Blue Ivy) and loss (R.I.P. Etta). How did the pop world turn this week? Take a peek at our fresh new Pop & Fizz chart, in which we've ranked the top artists and news stories shaping the zeitgeist this week, based on incredibly complex math and scientific methods. Where did Adam Lambert, Lil Wayne and Miley Cyrus wind up this week? [...]

Over the last few years HT faves Wilco have launched their own music festival, started their own label, played innovative tours in their hometown of Chicago and even sold their own brand of coffee, but the one thing that they haven't done, at least since 1999, is make a music video. That changed yesterday as Jeff Tweedy & Co. released a new animated video for the tune Dawned On Me, but this isn't your straight up clip. For their first video in over a decade the band teamed up with the folks at King Features for [...]

Fiona Apple is an American myth. She rarely does shows, is perpetually 24-years old, has only a few albums, but is still very popular, despite the relatively light work-load in her two-decade career. So when the Manhattan native announced her first album (for real this time) since 2005's Extraordinary Machine , it was meant to be noticed. According to sources, we're at the least expecting a new album "soon" without any regard of when exactly, or what it could be. Stay tuned for that.
Fiona Apple has been in the game for nearly two decades now, and yet she only has three albums to her name. The last one, the very good Extraordinary Machine , came out way the hell back in 2005. And when she did a surprise show with Jon Brion late last year, Apple said, "I can't remember any of my new songs because they've been done for a fucking year." That's fucked up! We obviously need to hear those songs, and soon we apparently will. As Rolling Stone reports , Epic Records CEO [...]

We've waited years for new music from Fiona Apple, and now there's a possibility that we'll only have to wait a few more weeks. "Lots of good music coming from @Epic_Records in the next few weeks," L.A. Reid tweeted out to his followers. "Stay tuned music fans. Welcome back Fiona! #BeEpic." We're wary that Apple would rush out an album announcement and a press tour for the follow-up to her 2005 LP Extraordinary Machine in just a matter of weeks... though she has said her album has "been done for a [...]

The fight to release Fiona Apple's fourth album is gaining ground and to stop the bad publicity, LA Reid himself has come out to confirm that the yet-untitled album is slated for a 2012 release date. So, put your #FreeFiona placards down and brace for one of the greatest music albums to come our way! LA Reid has tweeted: Lot's of good music coming from @ Epic_Records in the next few weeks. Stay tuned music fans. Welcome back Fiona! #BeEpic — LA Reid (@LA_Reid) January 22, 2012 [...]

Let us rejoice alert ! The FIONA APPLE is coming in your ears some time this year, as just twitter confirmed by the LA REID. Lot's of good music coming from @Epic_Records in the next few weeks. Stay tuned music fans. Welcome back Fiona! #BeEpic The she-singer has been outta play since her 005 'Extraordinary Machine' LP so to say 'oh-my-god-so-fucken-ready-for -this' is an un_official understatement.
I spent most of last night watching Fiona Apple performance videos on YouTube. She's so remarkable live, so intelligent and brave, that the performances shine on despite the long-lost layers of video quality that the clips may have had upon their original airings. Nevertheless, it should be a crime for her Vevo page to carry the official video for "Paper Bag" - directed by P.T. Anderson during their late '90s romance, and featuring adorable choreography, kids in Dick Tracy suits and Fiona Apple smiling - in anything less than 1080p. I'd never seen it; until last night, I [...]

a lot of sites have "gone black" today in opposition to sopa, which if dont know what i am talking about that video down there breaks it down very well. i thought about not posting, but why censor myself, when others are trying to do the same thing. if anything, i think some folks should be posting more, maybe pushing some limits. these limits not being in an "illegal" fashion, but something outside the norm. im probably talkin out of my ass, as per usual. but, after watching that video, you'll understand in what a super grey area my site [...]

"But he's been pretty much yellow And I've been kinda blue But all I can see is Red, red, red, red, red now What am I gonna do?" -- "Red Red Red," Fiona Apple The color red. My God, there was so much of it in Drive ! I've really got to learn how to stomach red red red, particularly when it's gushing forth from human bodies on movie and TV screens. For weeks, reviews that promised there'd be lots of that in [...]

Monster by Meg Myers Genre: Alternative rock Sounds like: Fiona Apple , Alanis Morrissette , Marina + The Diamonds Meet Meg Myers , a rising musician based out of Los Angeles. While details about the singer herself are still somewhat minimal at the moment , we do have an excellent tune to go by: "Monster," the lead track from her upcoming debut EP. The song was co-scribed and produced by Doctor [...]
► It's a night of great folk-rock at the Echo — a double-barreled tour featuring two harmony-heavy bands brings in Vancouver's Yukon Blonde (behind their new "Fire//Water" EP) and Long Beach's the Fling (behind their new "What I've Seen" EP). That's Yukon Blonde's video for "Water," above. BollWeevil kicks off the night. ► Stones Throw Records celebrates 15 years at Exchange LA downtown, with DJ sets from Madlib, Mayer Hawthorne, Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam Funk, Rhettmatic, DJ Romes, and a whole lot more. ► Nice benefit at the Grand Star [...]
