Thanks To Camilo for this great artwork. Looking back at 2012, there were plenty of albums that I loved. Was it the best year of music in recent memory? Maybe not, but it was a damn good year in its own right. There is a lot that we may look back on and remember well into the rest of the decade. This year I listed my Top 40 albums, as well as a few honorable mentions that were as close to making my list as they come. I didn't get to listen [...]
[Playlist] The Best Albums of 2012
Well, another year has come and gone, and it's time to post my favorite albums of the past year. 2012 seemed to lack a lot of depth in terms of quality albums. There are a few great ones at the top of the list, but once you get past the first 6 or 7, the [...]

It might be typical to who will be in the list but at least it will open up a the dialogue on who should or shouldn't be. So check it out! Hope you will agree or disagree 1. Dirty Projectors - Swing [...]
Favorite Songs of 2012: Part 1 (100-51) You will have to take these list rankings with a grain of salt, because although I tried my best to accurately arrange the tracks, I change it every time I listen to one of the songs. I also only included my favorite song from each artist, so there are no doubles (except for I think one person, but they were part of two different groups). A few songs are also technically from before 2012, but they all appear on albums or [...]

Say goodbye to 2012 with our end of the year mix. It's up for the week and that's it. Thanks for all of the support in 2012. Music to Combat Commuting Doldrums 2012 [ mp3 ] [...]
AFTER a record number of votes being cast this year - 115 in total - the winner of this year's Albums of the Year poll is... (drum roll) ...God Save The Clean, by Clean George IV. The album pipped frontrunners Fiona Apple, Alt-J, and Grizzly Bear to the gong - no doubt helped by the vote being publicised on Clean George IV's official Facebook and Twitter! Also a good sign was the fact the each entry received at least one vote this year. So congratulations to Clean George IV [...]
A year has come and gone as music has helped get us through the toughest of times and keep us happy during the best of times. Although this year didn't end up being one to remember for music lovers, at least it didn't end last week right? I've covered 7 albums a week since January and now it finally time to unveil my choices for the top 50 albums of 2012. I want to thank all of the readers for sticking with me this year and wish everyone a happy holidays and a very merry Christmas. I can't wait to [...]
Here I am, left to go last once again with my favorite songs of the year. I feel as though I listened to more in 2012 than in any other year, and my musical experience was all the better for it. More music means more candidates, which admittedly makes lists like this one tougher. But [...]

Another year of music has come and gone, dense with wonder and goodness. I can't possibly articulate the qualitatively- best albums of the year, but I can mentally categorize into my favorites (something that has been a hot discussion topic this week with my musical friends). These are my favorite albums that were released in 2012 - tallied in a scientific manner of how long it took me to take the record off repeat. When I love something, I tend to love music furiously and unrelentingly, listening to it on repeat for weeks and months until I get sick [...]

"Don't call it a comeback" is usually a phrase uttered self-protectively by musicians who are very much coming back from some degree of obscurity. Dr. Dre wasn't exactly absent during the seven-year stretch between his first and second albums ("California Love," anybody?), but his 1999 sophomore release 2001 is littered with lines like "Ladies pay homage, but haters say Dre fell off/ How, nigga? My last album was The Chronic ." If he ever gets around to releasing Detox , it'll surely be stacked with similar "I never went away" rhetoric (and, undoubtedly, lyrics about headphones.) [...]

The role of the music video is a little unclear in 2012. It's certainly not for television anymore. With parody clips, cat fails, and random viral disasters racking up the pageviews on the Internet, it sometimes seems like wasted effort to put effort into making a creative, time consuming, well-done set of visuals. We're glad that artists are still doing it, though. The year's best music videos are also some of the most creative. Sometimes it was a trippy, mind-blowing type of creativity, and other times it was more subtle. Whatever the approach, each one of these videos is thought [...]

50. Mikky Ekko - Pull Me Down 49. Blondfire - Where the Kids Are 48. Gap Dream - Generator 47. The 1975 - You 46. Fun. - Some Nights [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]

The 15 Best Gigs of 2012 in The World (that I attended)! Primavera Sound at the Forum Barcelona, Spain: Coverage My first experience at Primavera Sound was so amazing that it prompted me to purchase tickets for the following year prior to any lineup announcements. Just a few of the acts I saw were: The Cure, Saint Etienne (as the clock struck 12 on my birthday), Justice, The Xx, Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Friends, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand, [...]
