With the release of his compilation of his My Best Remixes compilation I went back, and listened to the remixes of his I had. Then I went and downloaded a few more. You want know what's really similar about all those remixes I had and now have? They're all great. His style of remixing is very beautiful, and elegant. Long remixes that take apart the song and rework them and form them in to something new, and different yet very reminiscent of what was heard in the original track. While his choices for his compilation were excellent I've made a [...]

Armani XXXchange (Alex Epton) is a producer for the group Spank Rock . He along with Chris Rockswell (Chris Devlin), Ronnie Darko (Ronald Rubarth) did some great stuff. "XXXchange studied at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, then briefly the New England Conservatory before decamping for New York and a stint drumming with the indie electronic group Zero Zero, whose 2001 album AM Gold was produced by the highly sought-after DFA camp; he also earned a production apprenticeship at DFA, assisting James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy" (billboard). Spank Rock's album YoYoYoYoYo was released in 2006 and launched their [...]

Prog rock is dead. Long live prog rock! New York's Fires of Rome bring you all the joy of prog—big keening vocals, thunderous drums, driving guitars—with none of the excess of prog—14-minute odes to the sky, horrible prog "supergroups" like Asia…you get the picture. Fires of Rome smartly combines T. Rex, early-70s Bowie, and Roxy Music-era Brian Eno to create prog for the new millennium. The band manages to pay homage to the best of an often-maligned music type without sounding nostalgic or derivative. The full album [...]

Fires of Rome might be coming from the future, but they have not forgotten about all of the great names of the past. This New York group has been knocking about for a couple years and a few people have noticed, including the well-respected chaps at the New York Times. The end of 2008 will see them gear up for the big time, including an appearance at our CMJ party (10/22! be there!) and a debut album called You Kingdom You . It is destined to be a classic. [...]
