Something a bit different from us today, in the form of First Aid Kit. They look just exactly how they sound, huge floppy felt hats and reels of ethnic fabric floating around them. Add to this the flowing long hair and they look like the kind of people you see dancing in a particularly intense manner next to an empty stage on a lazy festival day. A visual representation of the Summer of Love. But with no Glastonbury this year, maybe these girls are what we are all missing out on. Klara & Johanna Söderberg are Swedish sisters [...]

Tweet I like to imagine that if Fleet Foxes had two younger sisters who spent summers in the country with their Auntie Neko Case , they would sound like First Aid Kit . Of course, no such familial ties exist, but musical ties certainly do. Most obviously: harmony. Johanna and Klara Söderberg spend much of "The Lion's Roar" harmonizing wonderfully through verse, chorus and bridge. The bright tonality and rich quality of their vocals are the true backbone [...]

Looking over the list of albums slated for release in the new few months, it's hard not to get overly giddy - 2012 is going to be a great year for music. Several bands that made names for themselves with wildly inventive and successful debuts are putting forth their sophomore efforts this year. The all-important follow-up album can be tricky, though, especially when an artist has made such a unique statement with their debut - I'm definitely eager to hear how these musicians have adapted their sound. Cloud Nothings' (@cloudnothings) [...]
Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg might originate from Sweden, but their sound reaches over to an American pastoral sound, populated by the hazy yet strident sounds of Crosby, Stills and Nash and The Beach Boys, flecked with the modern and magical re-imaginings of that world by bands like Fleet Foxes (they actually covered "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" and subsequently did a live performance with the band). The Lion's Roar , the sisters' second record as First Aid Kit (after 20102s The Big Black & Blue ), benefits from [...]

On The Lion's Roar, it's quite clear that First Aid Kit have long since left behind the serene Swedish fields where they were discovered in favour of giving themselves entirely to the rich, vast history of Americana-tinged folk music, the dusty echoes of which inhabit all of their new songs like long-lost old friends. Though Johanna and Klara Söderberg journeyed all the way to Omaha, Nebraska to record their sophomore record, it wasn't much of a stretch for them to tap further into the elaborate storytelling and genuine [...]
At its best, The Lion's Roar is a staggering beautiful recreation of the sounds of Americana long gone, with a few added sprinkles and melodramatic twists that contribute extra dimension and weight to the material. Something interesting can happen when musicians from a European nation get together and pay homage to the country sounds of America. I'm thinking particularly of Bettie Serveert, a Dutch indie rock band that released a 1992 album called Palomine which seemingly paid tribute to the country-rock sounds of Gram Parsons, but added an additional layer of grungy fuzz and feedback to the [...]

First Aid Kit's new album, The Lion's Roar , is getting all kinds of roars...of approval. The new album is being pretty much hailed as one of the year's best, so you should probably get around to hearing it if you haven't done so yet. But if you would prefer to hear the album in a live setting, the sister act of Klara and Johanna Söderberg have announced tour dates for this year beginning in 2012. Check them out below. Read more »
New mix for December 2011/January 2012 on 8tracks.com : Given and Taken in Ink - Winter 2011/2012 from gtimusic on 8tracks . All of the songs on this list have either been featured on GTI or are due for a post. Whether I actually get around to writing all these posts is a matter of speculation, but in case I don't, at least you get to hear the songs. Chairlift – Something (Columbia Records) Caroline Polachek e Patrick Wimberly acertaram a mão.

If 2012 is really the apocalypse, we'll at least be serenaded by lots of great music as our world goes up in flames. Yes, it's another great week of new releases filled with KEXP favorites, new and old. In fact, we've long been fans of Nada Surf , who return with their sixth album this week, which according to our Music Director, Don Yates, "finds them injecting some welcome additional energy and aggression into their melodic pop-rock sound via quicker tempos and some bristling electric guitar lines." Fans needn't fear that the New York band is trying to recapture [...]

First Aid Kit is comprised of two sisters, Johanna and Klara Soderberg, they're from Sweden, and hold a penchant for the cool side of Country music. The girls' sophomore effort The Lion's Roar , recorded in Omaha with Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes), features their father on bass guitar and various other Omaha based musicians contributing to the affair. Title track, The Lion's Roar sets an impressive tone, one of Americana with delicate layers that fit perfectly upon each other. A snarling vocal culminates in a harmony between the two as they croon: "I'm [...]
