Well, this is the saddest post in the history of posts. The end of an era, really. Dollar Disco , the weekly party that's hosted talent such as Busy P, Derrick Carter, Gigamesh, Flosstradamus and so on, is closing its doors just as it reaches the two year anniversary marker. Although I wasn't as diehard as other $D regulars, I will still miss the vibes and the Monday hangovers that accompanied said vibes. Help send these guys off right... Sunday, April 1 @ SmartBar, Michael Serafini Kid Color Adulture $2 / 10pm / FREE pizza [...]

As you can tell from our previous posts, we are big fans of Paul Johnson, even though it does mean trawling through the masses of tracks he has made to find the proper meat. Big big use of the sampler, and very much a trade mark case of speeding up disco loop and adding some pumping kicks... but the uptempo, heavy funk that comes out of this makes this all ok. This track is proper 90s heat, dropped at the right time, it can cause devastation, throw it in, throw it out ;) [...]
Another fine cut from one of the most consistent and definitely one of our top 2011 house music labels 'My Love Is Underground'. Inner Sense takes this 'First Choice' vocal... DOWNLOAD/ STREAM http://www.feelmybicep.com

We haven't put up any straight up hardcore disco in a long time so here you go. It is impossible to put these joints on and not want to invite all the foos in the neighborhood over for a dance party; unless you live where I live, then again, OK it's a bad idea altogether. Just convince BT to throw a matinee party at his house in LA and go hang out in his heated pool. This Mandrill Jam reminds me or a mix between Tempest Trio's Do You Like The Way That It Feels [...]

Lovely soothing disco magic from First Choice, never fails to list the mood. Layered to perfection the vocals speak for themselves. Be warned this one brings the bears to tears! FIRST CHOICE | ARMED AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS

Straight fire Paradise Garage classic..A 'must-have' in any DJ case and a 'must-be' on every 'all time Disco list', "Let No Man Put Asunder" was much more than a feminist anthem or underground Disco hit, as it represented a standard for a whole generation. The acappella of this timeless Disco classic is arguably among the most sampled and re-mixed ever in the history of the Dance Music. Shep Pettibone's version for "Let No Man Put Asunder" on A side became an instant classic; the single also had a version by the Warehouse resident DJ [...]

The world in 1976 looked and sounded a heck of a lot different than it did in 1969. When you went to a club it was most likely a fern bar. The ladies wore hot pants and halter tops, men wore stacked heels and checkered pants. The 1970s had its own stupid haircut: the shag (later replaced by another all-star stupid haircut, the mullet). Music was becoming more rhythmic and slick, it would be another year or so before we'd call it "disco." Music more often than not was made for dancing - even at a fern bar. [...]

W ell, it's no surprise that here at Manifest Destitute a Lazy Sunday is always regarded with ease. As of tradition, we are here to spank you with yet another classic to get your Sunday going or just complement your lovely day and that's really what's important. First Choice's classic "Let No Man Put Asunder" has been a staple in every "House"hold for as long as i can remember. Whether it was the Shep Pettibone or the Frankie Knuckles Remix, this tracks seems to have more lives than a Kitty Cat. But how can one deny [...]

From the "Dear Josie" advice column in Josie & The Pussycats #73 (December 1973), a poignant look at the problems facing yesterday's youth: Wow. Josie takes the "tough love" approach to a whole new level. The quotation marks around "groovy" and "bells" give the proceedings a certain Jack Webb je ne sais quoi : "Flares," "bells," "Bolivian boot-cuts" -- cute "with it" names for something as insidious as communist ideology. You kids need to realize that crimes against fashion are no laughing matter. [...]

First Choice, from Philadelphia, were one of the great disco acts. They had many solid hits including Hold Your Horses , Double Cross , Gotta Get Away, From You Baby , and Let No Man Put Asunder . This track is pretty ubiquitous. It is perhaps the most sampled track in dance music actually (next to the Amen Break.) It was produced in 1977 and pressed to a rare 12." In 1983 it was re-released as a 12" with both Shep Pettibone and Frankie Knuckles remixes. This fine sounding rip is from [...]
Click here for an iPhone friendly video I originally wanted to put the video of Kanye West performing Stronger with "Daft Punk" working the Jazz Mutants at the Grammys last week but they don't seem to last 5 minutes on YouTube. So why not enjoy some classic Miss Ross instead? Muallem - Cheerleader feat. Shawn Lee [Phreek Plus One Cosmic Vox Mix] Foster Sylvers - Misdemeanor First Choice - Love Having You Around
First Choice - Let No Man Put Asunder (Frankie Knuckles 12''Mix) Maybe about 6 months ago, I posted the Ron Hardy -inspired reworking of the First Choice classic... all long lolloping house groove going on and on with a breathy exhortations on top until it climaxes in a final couple of minutes of unadulterated disco bliss... lovely stuff that I never get tired of.. and has cropped up in quite a few people's favourite edit lists. Since then, I stumbled across this 12" remix from [...]
