In early 2010 several of Scotland’s most talented indie-rock and folk musicians came together to collaborate on a project called The Fruit Tree Foundation, and the resulting First Edition will finally be available for purchase on June 28th. The idea for the album arose from the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival with the intention of raising awareness of mental health and challenge perceptions of mental health problems. The musicians involved are members of such bands as Frightened Rabbit, Twilight Sad, Idlewild, Sparrow and the Workshop, the Delgados, as well as a host of others. [...]

Staying on the topic of licentiousness, it's interesting to consider the geographical/cultural variations on how it's shaped into art. Let's take Kenny Rogers. In contrast to Leon Ware's domesticated, slightly over-the-top chivalrous approach to seduction, Kenny's tale of bonged-out redneck sexplay invokes the rambling drifter archetype who isn't too concerned about controlling his environment or even himself. What seemed a mistake at first was soon revealed to be exactly right. When a weight is removed from a chest, restricted breaths can at last return to normal, like a car speeding down a deserted highway, air returns. This is a radiant hour in [...]
