Robjn Genre: Pop / Ambient / Electro From : Cambridge, United Kingdom The Devil received an email yesterday from the mysterious Robjn Barker, a 24 year old Student who has just completed reading Graphic Design: BA (Hons) at the Cambridge School of Art. Despite having a [...]
This is the part of the "Emerging" posts where I usually go off on some kind of tangent about how cool I am for my music knowledge and blah blah blah and how you should know this reference or that one or whatever. But you know what, we got emailed by this UK graphic designer/Pro Tools whiz/filmmaker/photographer/Ja ck about town named Robjn linking to these various remixes that he's done of some of your favorite dance floor/chillout room bangers. And they're fucking gorgeous. It may seem a little odd that we're profiling a remixer and not [...]

Oh my the football season has started so bye bye sleep on Sundays...and Mondays...and now Thursdays and Saturdays later on in the season. Also I finally caved and got a second controller for my Xbox 360 and got The Bigs so my sleep is slowly going down for the count. Maybe I should get some energy drink and put it directly into my veins. Yea if that worked you know that it would have already be the "it" thing. At least I can listen to my music while doing this so I am not completely doomed. [...]

Nothing impresses your significant other more than a heart felt collection of tunes painstakingly recorded onto a cassette that you can both share as your relationship blossoms. Sadly, much like the impending death of the cd the audio cassette has gone the way of the 8 track. Also in true less is more fashion dropping [...]

Justin Nozuka - Down In A Cold Dirty Well from Holly This song starts off slower than I'd like, but once it kicks into high gear, I can't stop listening to it. It's a feel good track that you can't help but move along to. This comes from his recent release Holly which I'm eagerly looking forward to getting. Rufus Wainwright - April Fools from Rufus Wainwright [...]
Following up on The Music Slut. Capital record cut... I saw something about how The Dandy Warhols & Fischerspooner just got booted from Capital Records. I was thinking about doing a post about Fischerspooner but I had to dismiss the idea because I don't want to talk about one of my favorite artists. It was weird though, it was like I didn't want to share it. I had to keep the best to myself. I think they'll survive in this new music market. Probably be better off than staying with Capital. What [...]

What do the following musicians have in common: Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), Casey Spooner (Fischerspooner), Joel Gibb (Hidden Cameras), Stephin Merritt, Rufus Wainwright, Jonsi Thor Birgisson (Sigur Ros) & Ed Droste (Grizzly Bear)? Well, if you guessed openly queer, that would be correct but the actual answer that I was looking for today is that all of the men I just mentioned are featured in the newly released, Best Of The First 5 Years Of Butt Magazine . For those unfamiliar with Butt, I'll let Amazon tell the story: Since its first [...]

Ah, the theme post, my faithful fallback for whenever my well of inspiration runs dry. Today we're going to take a little journey through the days of the week along the plane of the musically eclectic. Actually, as cop-out posts go, this one turned out to be a bigger hassle than anticipated. I thought it was going to be smooth sailing once I hit upon the the original idea. Potential song selections popped into my head quicker than bad foreign policy decisions at a Bush cabinet meeting. It wasn't until I started pulling it all together that I [...]
Hardly any released worth mentioning this week, unless you wanted the Snakes on a Plane soundtrack. Next week though will be a monster week for great album releases, so definitely look forward to that. To not make this post a complete waste of time I made a little mix of electronic songs for my little drive to Atlanta later today. Chemical Brothers | "Star Guitar" Goldfrapp | "Twist" Basement Jaxx | "Romeo" [...]

The point is this isn't a set of ideas. This isn't some abstraction. This isn't electroclash. Did music come out of that? Can you think of any songs? Are you going back to it? It was a fad. It was a time. And, I know this thing right now is considered a fad and there's a look to it and all that bullshit but without actual music it will mean nothing in two days. devendra banhart - fall [...]
If this was Vietnam, we'd have had a few decent albums of anti-war music by now. As it is, musicians are only now slowly coming together to say "this Iraq thing... maybe it's not going quite as well as it could be, yeah?" Leading off with a big anti-war protest in New York are http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/200 60223/music_nm/antiwar_dc">Mic hael Stipe, Bright Eyes, Rufus Wainwright, Public Enemy's Chuck D, Devendra Banhart and Peaches . A pretty impressive line-up, although for some reason they elected Casey Spooner spokesperson: "It is impossible not to react to the current state [...]

Who is excited to see Fischerspooner tomorrow night?! We are because those guys put on a fucking cool show. All of you know who they are already there's no need to explain. And for those of you who don't, you're so very late and where the fuck have you been this whole time. Get out of the cave. Fischerspooner is an art pop performance project created and helmed by Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner that makes music, dance, fashion, film and photography. Their work fuses fine art and pop culture, as in their renowned outsider [...]
