There was never really any question which album Pitchfork would pick as its #1 of the 2000s. However, a predictable conclusion to their countdown shouldn't distract from the merits of the winner, Radiohead's Kid A. As the follow-up to their massively successful OK Computer, Kid A's glitchy electro beats and spacey reverb washes elicited mixed reaction at best. Suffice to say, fans and critics

Wow, this is pretty impressive. The all-mighty Stereogum have pulled off a task not too many could have accomplished. First, they managed to convince a number of very awesome artists, including Cold War Kids and Johnathan Vanderslice, to cover Radiohead songs for a 10th anniversary tribute to OK Computer . And, to top it all off, they actually came up with a final product worthy of being a tribute to the original Radiohead classic. Not too shabby, Stereogum. I've included links to all the individual mp3's. If you would prefer them all .zipped up, [...]

A couple weeks ago I got an email from Chris Funk of the Decemberists mentioning his new music project Flash Hawk Parlor Ensemble and noting they had an upcoming show at the Doug Fir. I said I was up for the show and we joked a bit about him having to put me on the guest list - only the reason this is called Not on the Guest List isn't because no one ever offers, it's mostly because of events similar to what happened when I arrived at the Doug Fir. Scene: I present [...]
Following James Murphy's push for "North American Scum," LCD Soundsystem is giving consumers a slew of options for the next single off Sounds Of Silver , "All My Friends." Depending on the format (7" or CD), you'll get LCD covering Joy Division's "No Love Lost" ( Bowery folks know ), a new Soundsystem track called ""Freak Out/Starry Eyes," or cover versions of "All My Friends" by John Cale or Franz Ferdinand. That's a headache to contemplate, so instead of sifting through the various formats and options, head to myspace.com/lcdsoundsystem now and take a [...]
