Flats - Better Living By Russell Warfield Since I started listening to Flats ' debut LP Better Living , the band have cancelled a full UK tour at short notice, pushed back the release of the record by about a month, and their lead singer has been sentenced to a period of rehabilitation in Pentonville Prison for drug use. Listening to the record, none of these things are entirely surprising – Better Living sounding like the work of a band genuinely coming apart at the edges, [...]

Flats From: London, United Kingdom The youth of Britain are bored and angry. They're bored of living at home with their parents. They're bored of soul destroying part-time non jobs if they can get them, or unemployment if they can't. They're angry that a government of out of touch posh boys has pulled the rug from under their feet, removing the Educational Maintenance Allowance, closing youth centres and trebling tuition fees. [...]

London band Flats have unfortunately announced that their UK Tour has been postponed. The tour had been previously scheduled to start off at London's historic 100 Club on the 1st of May and would have been going through May 2012. A Summer tour is now being rescheduled for the band, coinciding with the release of their debut album Better Living which is now scheduled to be released on the 4th of June along with the new tour dates whose dates will be confirmed shortly. Meanwhile, as a follow up [...]

The Airconcast? Yes, because I am recording this in our hotel room in Austin, surrounded by a noisy fridge and an even noisier air-conditioning unit. It was so loud I actually turned it off during the recording, but the room then quickly became uncomfortably stuffy, so this podcast was recorded with me sitting in my pants in a slightly uncomfortable sweat - picture that if you will. We are, as you will have guessed, out here for SXSW again, but seeing as next week's podcast is going to be our now-traditional chat with Peej, Vic Galloway and Stuart [...]

This was the first of three shows that happened in Ottawa on February 11, 2012. Being a very chilly night. The first show I attended was at Zaphod Beeblebrox. Playing at the show: • Will Currie and The Country French • The Flats Ottawa's The Flats started off the show. The band played their blend indie folky-rock music. It was a nice set. [...]

Following on from recent news that FLATS are due to release début album, 'Better Living’', the band have announced the release of single by new London band Psychic Pussies on their own SweatShop Records imprint at the end of March. A super limited run of 300 7" vinyl, containing two tracks of pummelling Melvins-tinged mayhem, will be let loose on March 31st. Go to ssrlondon.net for more details. FLATS have also made available for free download 'Foxtrot', that was posted on their Soundcloud page recently and is taken [...]

Henri Rousseau never went to the Jungle. He spent all his days in Paris and surrounds, meticulously painting images of nature that were anything but 'natural'. He copied his designs from botanical gardens, zoo pamphlets, and children's books, depicting animals that would never be seen in the same environment. Once he even painted a hand of bananas growing upside down. His paintings are naive, flat and disjointed. This playlist is a musical equivalent to Rousseau paintings - "Jungle" music made by westerners. Electronic emulation of african sounds, drum machines instead of djembé. Starts off mellow before moving into more disjointed territory. [...]

After a long drive, we decided to take a stretch break. Hilarity ensued. P.S. Show tonight at Auntie Mae's in Manhattan, Kansas. Things kick off at 8. View more photos here > Pictures in the Middle of Nowhere
The first music video to come from one of the newest rock outfits to come out of England, FLATS . "Never Again" is the band's debut single, and the intensity of this has me hoping for a new album later this year.

As last minute step-in for BIYL’s Mark who was off honing his culinary skills for a rather important anniversary, I took on this job with trepidation and an uncharacteristic lack of planning.... ...But if there was ever anywhere where trepidation and an uncharacteristic lack of planning were actually a bonus for the survival kit, the 2011 Camden Crawl was surely it... My brief was simple, witness a brace of memorable sets by (mostly) not so [...]
The final bands playing the the UK leg of this year's Sonisphere Festival have been confirmed. Among the 24 bands that have all been added to the line-up this afternoon are Thrash Hits favourites The Defiled, Turbowolf, Black Breath and The Safety Fire. OH HELL YEAH - it is going to be one kickass weekend at Knebworth. [...]
Tonight's episode of MTV Gonzo is just chock full of goodies! Plan B stops by to talk about his forthcoming album 'The Ballad of Belmarsh', to be released later this year, and what's been going on in his life since his his award winning appearance and infamous performance at this year's BRITS. Model Daisy Lowe (pictured above) pops in, little dog in tow, for a chat with Alexa on music and Doctor Who. She likes the Big Apple but was reportedly quoted as saying, “I would move to New York, but [...]
Brighton's premier (if only noteworthy) festival, The Great Escape, announced it's final lineup last week and I snoozed on it. What a major mistake. With over 300 bands, 30 venues, and the presence of myself - this is a festival not to be missed. Check out my favorites that are playing below, and then the [...]

Friday Films is a weekly post with videos of new songs by London acts I like... PJ Harvey - The Glorious Land Another number from Let England Shake, this has fox-hound calls, chanty lyrics in classic Harvey-style and a swooning backing beat at odds to go with the pastoral tone. All in a Seamus Murphy-directed video, too. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] Wolf Gang [...]

The controversial former the Smiths frontman Morrissey has announced a string of UK tour dates. Starting in mid June the gigs have been arranged to lead up to Morrisseys headlining slot at Hop Farm Festival on July 2nd. The 9 date tour stops off at some of the less obvious venues in Great Britain, with support being provided by Nashville rock'n'rollers Mona , punk band Flats and 'Gritpop', Oasis wannabes Brother . Tickets are available come Monday. Full listings are below as well as [...]

Flats are a hotly-tipped London four-piece making the kind of brash punk racket that cool kids currently adore. Never Again, their third single, is rabid, raucous, fast and fearsomely loud, even when the volume's turned low; those of a delicate aural disposition should shut the computer down now. The video (exclusively) plus an interview are over on Dazed right now, but here's the stream: Renowned for incredibly short, but thrilling live shows, Flats are playing the Bull & Gate on 9 March. Tickets here .

The point of this website is to provide you with interviews. Frankly, I tire of reading 2000 word essays from Joe in Poughkeepsie giving you his view of the inside of Thom Yorke's head. To that end, must I write a flowery into to every interview we do?! Obviously, we think each band is good. That's why they're here. No corporate sponsorship= no bands that we don't stand behind. So, here's my new standard introduction: Flats: band. Good. Loud. England. Punk. Drummer Samir Eskanda talked. We listened. [...]
