Here's the top 50 acts in Ireland according to my humble tastes. The list acts as a guide to the recently released music which excites me at this moment in time. It excludes bands not currently working in Ireland or who have been dormant for some time. So in basic terms here's a list of bands to watch out for on a random night in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Dundalk etc .... 50. Heritage Centre http://www.facebook.com/theher itagecentre [...]

When I'm browsing blogs I love them big massive news posts with details of great events and an opportunity to listen to some new music. Here's a roundup of great things happening over the next few weeks. DOI: Below are two events I've helped to organise for Boyles of Slane. Happy Birthday to The Song Room run every Wednesday Night in The Globe by Hamlet Sweeney. This weeks line up (note early start this week! First act on at 8.30): The Ikonics [...]

There have been some fantastic debut tracks in 2012 so far; with the Neighbourhood's Female Robbery and Family History's In Need proving particular highlights. The quirkily titled DREAM3ERS from dreampop outfit EPIC FLING certainly ranks up there among the best, despite it's outward slightly self-indulgent appearance. Combining shoegaze inspired guitars with more ethereal, floaty vocals, it's destined to put EPIC FLING on the radars of many bloggers around the world. DREAM3ERS by EPIC FLING

Saturday night's all right ... ► The Section Quartet , the string-wielding foursome known for their covers of Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Tool and more, perform at 9 p.m. at the grand opening of yet-another new vinyl record store, High Fidelity (1956 Hillhurst Ave., Los Feliz). Buzz Bands LA will be on hand to select tunes during the course of the evening. ► Ryan Adams is back for a second night at Disney Hall. ► L.A. songstress Emily Wells , who's just signed to [...]
First Monday of a new month, and you know what that means: new residencies. But first: ► Youngblood Hawke , Lady Danville and Useless Keys team up for a Pablove Foundation benefit at the Satellite, whose February residents, Milo Greene, don't get started until next Monday. Above is the video for Youngblood Hawke's "Burning Down" (as remixed by London producer Meck), featuring actress Angela Trimbur. ► Good stuff at It's a School Night at Bardot: LA Font headlines, the New Division and [...]

Here are the twenty albums which I've loved this year from Irish artists. 1. The Making - Expectations This is pure quality pop/rock album released independently by the Co. Monaghan band. I'm not even sure if it's had an official nationwide release as I didn't notice the album on the Choice Longlist for the year. 02 v1 Beautiful Tonight by The Making [...]

► It's a night of great folk-rock at the Echo — a double-barreled tour featuring two harmony-heavy bands brings in Vancouver's Yukon Blonde (behind their new "Fire//Water" EP) and Long Beach's the Fling (behind their new "What I've Seen" EP). That's Yukon Blonde's video for "Water," above. BollWeevil kicks off the night. ► Stones Throw Records celebrates 15 years at Exchange LA downtown, with DJ sets from Madlib, Mayer Hawthorne, Peanut Butter Wolf, Dam Funk, Rhettmatic, DJ Romes, and a whole lot more. ► Nice benefit at the Grand Star [...]
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: The Fling Video: 'Dogpile' Highlight: "Working on this video with Chad 'Dream Team' Huff was so much fun," bassist/vocalist Graham Lovelis tells Spinner. "He's my best friend and we came up with the storyboard the night before so it was an extremely relaxed shoot. This is just the start for us. Expect to see a lot of different videos in the future from this team. A digital buffet of sorts." [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Long Beach CA's The Fling are an eclectic kind of rock band that clash together 602s pop with a bit of contemporary indie-rock. The surf pop guitars jangle, vocals reverb and swirl and the downtrodden lyrics feel particularly upbeat. The video itself features the bandmembers meeting their demise from an unknown woman (jilted lover?). Its a fun video and a damn catchy song.
The Fling just put out a new video for Dogpile. They shot this in Long Beach, where I used to live and it gets me all nostalgic, except for the part when people get abducted. I don't remember any of that. Their latest EP "What I've Seen" is out now via Dangerbird Records. They're currently in the thick of a three-month long tour and are gearing up to head out with Yukon Blonde for the last leg. Dates are here . The Fling- Dogpile

Fling manage to capture their infectious live performances within their debut album. This is a gutsy charming album which re-aquatints us with timeless traditional ballads and introduces us to new jigs for modern times! There's no album out there more varied than the debut album from Galway band Fling. While folk is at it's core we have traditional ballads sitting next to new tunes next to Dylanesque folk and continental sounds. The majority of the album is instrumental folk but [...]
If you were a fan of The Fling's LP When the Madhouses Appear from earlier this year, then you'll be excited to know that there is yet another release upcoming, complimented by a rather extensive US tour. What I've Seen will be released November 1, and their tour started October 18 in California. The rest of the year will be spent on the road in promotion of their new disc, so keep an eye out....

Happy Halloween to you and you and you. I'm sitting here dressed as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon hoping that the snow storm we had on Saturday night (seriously?) wasn't the beginning of winter for us here in New York City. It's currently supposed to be chilly but nice, which is, in my opinion, the best weather for venturing out and seeing some live music. From Feist and Battles , to The Drums and Pixies , we have some extraordinary artists visiting our city this week. See below for our suggested shows of [...]

The Fling It seems like not that long ago I was interviewing The Fling's frontman Dustin about heading out on a West Coast tour. The Long Beach Dangerbird band is already heading back out on the road, co-headlining with an awesome Canadian band Yukon Blonde. The Fling's album When The Madhouses Appear came out this past March and since then, they've been busy touring and being awesome. Yukon Blonde [...]

Waiting on the sunshine, but in the meantime let's talk musical shop: ►Nashville continues to bear solid musical fruit as Vandervelde parks it at the Echo tonight with harmonic folk/rock of tourmates The Fling (hello, Dangerbird Records). Locals Francisco The Man round out the bill and this combo has #win written all over it. P.S.: Vandverlde does a cover of Huey Lewis' "Power of Love". Take that for all it's worth. ►One night in L.A. is not enough so Portishead are at the Shrine Expo Hall for [...]

The Fling's 2010 debut album "When the Madhouses Appear" established the Long Beach quintet as a band that knew its Beatles from its Byrds, and a lot of the animal kingdom in between. The harmony-laden folk rock made by Dustin Lovelis, Graham Lovelis, Justin Ivey, Justin Roeland and Joel Bond expands its scope a bit on the new EP "What I've Seen" (out Nov. 1 on Dangerbird Records), with sharper guitars and bolder textures adding heft to their classic pop sensibilities. ||| Download: After the jump, use the widget to get "Dogpile" [...]
