We have a rare Jadakiss sighting here in Styles P's video for "Red Eye," produced by Scram Jones , who also shows up in the vid.
Styles calls on his Lox brother for "Red Eye." Cop Float when it hits stores April 16th.
We were getting our collars hot about low-key producer FTSE back in the day (ie last month), but the vowel-averse beat creator has genuinely surpassed all expectations with ‘CNT HLP MSLF’. It’s a grimy, pummelling off-centre beat that welcomes you into three and a half minutes of constantly changing electronica. Not only does the track collapse to reveal a tender vocal, but at one point FTSE somehow ends up borderline rapping over a rumbling bassline that isn’t millions of miles away from something that The Weeknd would be proud of. Awaiting news of a release expectantly. [...]
Words by Matthew Healy What is the sound of a conquering animal? Is it a bark? A howl? A roar? On Floating Bodies is none of these. These sounds are distinctly feral, and almost certainly inhuman, whereas the sound created by this particular conquering animal is unmistakably Homosapien. This is the most striking thing about Conquering Animal Sound's second album. For a record which could sit comfortably in the electronic section of your local record store, On Floating Bodies is astonishingly human. Yes, it is a [...]
Imagine a Phoenix-esque single with a lot more guts than glory and you’ll have a pretty good idea of The Ecstatics’ latest release.
Fresh off announcing his new High Times Records release Float, Styles P is now unveiling a new track off the album, "Hater Lover," featuring fellow D-Block bully Sheek Louch and [...] The post Styles P Ft. Sheek Louch - "Hater Love" (Prod. By Scram Jones) appeared first on The Smoking Section .
Looks like Pacific Air and Ra Ra Riot just did the old switcheroo. Yesterday we were given Pacific Air's interpretation of Ra Ra Riot's "When I Dream," and today we have Ra Ra Riot's take on Pacific Air's single "Float." Confused much? Don't worry about it, press play below and ... Read More
From the dudes responsible for the best beat on the new A$AP Rocky record comes the beautifully floating first track from the highly anticipated Kuchibiru Network 3 mixtape, which - in addition to all the new Friendzone material - will feature contributions from their friends Ryan Hemsworth, Silky Johnson, Keyboard Kid , and others. In related news, check the stellar new mix they just put together for Drowned in Sound . Kuchibiru Network 3 drops next week .
Leicester/London based producer FTSE has been making promisingly murky sounds for months over on his Soundcloud page, but yesterday's unveiling of new tune “Float” confirms that his thick, shuddering soundscapes are more than just promising - he’s sort of got it all worked out already. “Float” itself is a grimy, restrained tune that steadily builds towards a dense, groove laden climax. It’s not all about his present, though – his banging “Begin” Mixtape is available on a name your price basis over at Bandcamp , which is an even more in depth introduction to FTSE’s shadowy beats. [...]
We got wise to Pacific Air last March when the artists previously known as KO KO rocked the internet with "Float." The California brothers had to change their band name for legal reasons (lots of Kokos in the world apparently) but Pacific Air has retained the same introspective breeziness we fell in love with almost a year ago. After a successful tour with Passion Pit, they've hit the road with Walk the Moon and arrive in DC for a sold-out 9:30 Club show tonight. Make sure you arrive early - these guys won't [...]
Caught these dudes at The Paradise in Boston last week opening up for Walk The Moon, and "Float" live is definitely as stellar as it is in your headphones. The official video for the breezy, west-coast anthem was released today, and it's an ode to beautiful California weather (and women.) ... Read More
I don't think we're ever really going to get sick of Pacific Air 's "Float" , really. It's been a solid ten months since I first heard the song (almost to the day) while the band was still KO KO and I still enjoy listening to it on repeat. It's incredibly infectious, and as I sit here on this cold, rainy Madison, WI day, it brings back all the joys of summer. That joys of summer thing could also have a lot to do [...]
Wednesday night began as a tumultuous one for our favorite Californians: after their van broke down en route to the venue, Pacific Air had to wait around for quite sometime before finally arriving thirty minutes before showtime. In any event, the band formerly known as KO KO turned their luck around, putting on an absolutely killer set, winning over hundreds of Walk The Moon fans, as they'll only continue to do throughout the rest of the nearly-sold out tour. Before the Walk [...]
Falling in love with new music is one life's simple pleasures and 2012 was a fantastic year of discovery for me. I've already featured a few of my new favorites this year, including Bright Moments, HAERTS, Porcelain Raft, and Vacationer (just to name a few), and today i'd like to highlight a few more. But first I need to give credit where credit is due. If it weren't for the following music outlets, my music repertoire would be far less exciting. Big thanks to All Songs Considered , Big Hassle , EARMILK , Girlie Action , Head [...]
About a month or so ago I wrote a little bit about music as spatial landscapes. For whatever reason - I'm not going to question fate, destiny, or coincidence - I had an oddly profound text-versation with someone I've met once in my life but had an unspeakable, intimate, and rather unexpected connection with that's allowed us to develop some vague sense of trust (?). Anyway, we were "discussing" those little imaginary spaces we created when we were younger. You know, tiny dream spaces with disco-lit side walks like the Billie Jean music video and James Bond was real and [...]
RAC gets down with their wild side on this brand new remix of Pacific Air's (formerly KO KO for all those as confused as we were at first) well loved tune Float . It's spread like wildfire for good reason and we can't resist showing our love as well. Once again we're reminded why any new release from RAC instantly gets our full attention. The consistent and diverse nature with which André produces is just irresistible. This new remix has a bit darker, indie-electro vibe different than his usual sound, and the vocals are distorted beyond reckoning, but [...]
Like a sped up music box directly from the cloudy dreamworld, TheFatRat 's remix of Float captivates your ears the moment it's wound up and played. The vocals don't stray far behind at all—they are just as enchanting, just as uplifting, and just as peaceful as the xylophonic sounds that were reworked into Pacific Air 's beautiful tune. Boasting some aggressive dubstep transitions that hit the ground running like a Skrillex , d eadmau5 , or SHM concert yet calm down enough to tell you the story of free-spirits floating, [...]
Brother duo Ryan and Taylor Lawhon first caught our attention in a big way earlier this year, with a three song EP under the name KO KO , which had us calling them Ones To Watch . Then, we found out they signed to Universal, changed their name to Pacific Air , and feared the worst. Fortunately, not much has changed for them, especially not in the musical department. Their debut EP as Pacific Air , titled cheekily Long [...]
Here is another one straight out of Cali. Santa Cruz’s’ Christian Bauhofer, who goes by the moniker Minnesota, teamed up with the Oakland duo Zion I to give us a track that will melodically zone you out. When the King of the Bass, Bassnectar , drops your music in his sets and remarks that it is "Perfect for when I need a track that is epic and churning but also melodically hyped," you know you have done something right. I felt this track at first listen and it’s been on repeat ever since. With the smooth vocals [...]
Earlier this year, we fell in love with brother duo KO KO , naming them Ones To Watch based on their debut EP, Long Live KO KO . We then found out they signed to Universal, had to (read as: were forced to) change their name to Pacific Air , and had recorded an album with Chris Zane (who has worked with bands such as Passion Pit or The Walkmen ). [...]
