With so many festivals adopting a grab-all approach towards their line ups it’s refreshing to see Life Festival sticking to a theme and curating a bill that offers some old favourites while giving lesser known talents a share of the light. Now in its eighth year on the stately lakeside grounds of Belvedere House in Westmeath, the electronic music festival has found its niche as the go to outing for dance-heads. The setting and layout of the stages gives proceedings a laid-back feel which is missing at larger festivals and also means the more ambient and [...]
London producer/dj Floating Points with a warm, shimmering summer mix consisting of classic 45s.
OK, so Brad Weber's latest sonic patchwork may not tread too heavily on the toes of 2-step nor any other given subgenre of garage and with his newly cobbled together Spring Mix emerging just in time for the belated onset of summer, there are a couple complications with the above titling although that oughtn't deter you from delving into what is a darn comprehensive encyclopaedia of contemporary electronica. Inviting us in with the idle glimmer of Floating Points' Vacuum Boogie and dropping us off one hundred enlightening minutes later with a languid take on Pick a Piper triumph All [...]

Where the Chill Dojo once meant trying to discover a collection of worthy songs to compile into a playlist, the objective has quickly changed into trying to keep up with the stack of amazing music that is being released week on week. It's impossible to find and show everything, but what we do have is the best of what your ears should be listening to for this edition. Though featuring only a few days ago on the site , Bondax's incredible remix of 'Open' is that good it deserves another mention, [...]

While my fellow bloggers and all-around music loving nerds are spending spring break in good 'ol Austin, Texas for South By Southwest this week, some of us left behind in the cold, slushy weather are likely seething with jealousy. To warm us over and giving us something to look forward to, the good people at Osheaga released (after a [...]

A bunch of incredibly tight band and the amazing Fatima singing.. sounds like a recipe for success!
Sam Shepherd's Floating Points produce isn't designed for these bitterly gelid times. It's that bit too insouciant – far better suited to summertime climes. Though one man's misfortune proves to be another's providence, and the ominous throbs which the brothers Page tonight spurt out from under the guise of RocketNumberNine corroborate this most cogently. Arriving later rather than earlier, the sonorous pounding of Matthew & Toby is already busily thumping against the inside wall, travelling straight on through to these altogether sharper outdoors. There's something of an impromptu, almost ramshackle nature to tonight and although it's [...]
There's not a great deal to say on this one that's not already been said ( ourselves included , in the wake of Kieran Hebden sounding it out on Rinse FM a couple weeks back) other than to confirm that the A-side to the forthcoming TEXT023 collaborative release between RocketNumberNine and Four Tet is entitled Roseland, and was laid down July 15th of last year. And, sounding fresh as ever, the official stream may now be encountered below. RocketNumberNine play Islington's Electrowerkz Wednesday . The post [...]
Walthamstow collaborative powerhouses Rocketnumbernine had been menacing the recording of further involvement with mentor of sorts Kieran Hebden, aka Four Tet , for a fair old while, though it took until last night for anything audible to come of such good vibrations. TEXT023, recorded by Floating Points in the Eglo Records man's very own studio, is in fact their first allied effort since Hebden took a devilish tinker with Ben and Tom Page's already resplendently broody Matthew and Toby for TEXT008 , though this one's that little bit more special. Dropped toward the tail [...]

We haven’t been hearing too much from Gang Colours since the release of his (brilliant) debut album, The Keychain Collection , on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings . Word has it that Will Ozanne has been submerged in his studio, putting the final touches on his sophomore effort, which should be available early 2013. Though he is frequently likened to artists such as Gold Panda , Four Tet , and Floating Points , Gang Colours ’ sound is very much his own, characterized by soft piano chords, warm, thick percussion, and understated electronic [...]

Six producers worth their salt is a weekly column which features six relevant, up-and-coming, under-exposed, or disruptively innovative musicians in a particular genre-space. Every Friday we’ll put together a list of a half-dozen must-listen artists that are – or we expect to be – making waves in the coming months. England is a goldmine when it comes to finding new producers who constantly show us their version of how electronic music can and should sound. This weeks six producers worth their salt features five brilliant UK based bed producers. I must admit [...]
