I think I only really like one of the songs in tonight's post. But what can I say? I'm a man of the people. And I'm certain that some people out there really want songs, so I'm happy to oblige. Are there any people out there who want to oblige me? ...wait, that sounded dirty. Let me start over. I'm working on a few articles at the moment, and I'm looking for some people to interview. Do you like video games? Do you like vinyl? Do you like video game soundtracks on [...]

If any of you follow me on Twitter , then you may already know that I might have to go on another grunge-related rant next week. For that I apologize. Until then, let's keep the happy synthpop train rolling! Depeche Mode Only When I Lose Myself (Lexicon Avenue Remix) It's come to this, I have so many Depeche Mode singles (over 80 if you count the box sets) that I have to resort to white label bootlegs to get my remix fix. I'm willing to accept [...]
Metal Insider's Bram Teitelman just keeps bringing it with the golden oldies of embarrassing "before they were famous" videos; this chili dog commercial starring Cinderella and this ad for Warrant's 1-900 number were bonafide gems. Where does he find this stuff? I'm convinced Bram just sits at home on YouTube all night scrolling through search pages [...]
Even though I don't believe New Wave exists, I can't think of any other way to describe A Flock Of Seagulls . 1982 was the year of 'I Ran (So Far Away)'. Buy A Flock Of Seagull's music from: Follow @electronicrumor

For some reason The Soft Moon 's "When It's Over" reminds me of an abandoned and isolated cousin of "Wishing" by Flock of Seagulls, or least that point in my life when I was discovering that new music wasn't only manufactured by MTV. This is episode #2 for the band's Room 205/Incase series. There's a 100% chance that we'll be posting the third and final installment on May 16th.

Like This and Like That is the new column from Snobcast extraordinaire, Father Guido Sarducci IV. The procedure: Every morning (OK, maybe not every morning) Guido will snatch the first crisp, clean & new mp3 he stumbles upon, listen to it at least once, and then find an old song (ten years or more) for some good old-fashioned compare and contrast. The purpose: To draw a line between the modern and the out-of-date. The premise: To expose the kids to their past while also showing the unfashionable adults that there's great new music being made every day. [...]

Has Kate Nash been hanging out with a Flock of Seagulls? Actually, Kate Nash has just publicized the upcoming release of her sophomore album and how she was inspired by hatred of seagulls and groupies. Nash is expected to release her next album in several months and has been working with producer Bernard Butler. One of her new songs on the album, titled 'I Hate Seagulls', was inspired by her relationship with Ryan Jarman (you know, he's in the Cribs) in which she compares the relationship to her hatred of pets. "I had never been [...]

Nice scouser synth-pop from the 80's! Download audio file (seagulls.mp3) Flock of Seagulls - I ran

La Roux has been around for some months now, with the release of their self titled debut on June 29th, and been getting plenty of hype and acclaim. I've liked their songs but not to the extent that BBC seems to love them. La Roux is a duo from England, consisting of Elly Jackson on synths and lead vocals and Ben Langmaid as co-writer and producer. The band oft comes off as a solo group with Elly Jackson being the face, sporting her Flock of Seagulls inspired hair. They have a lot of [...]

Wow, so I have almost died at work every day for the past two weeks, so last week had no Events post; this week it's late. SO SUE ME. Anyways, find out what's going downtown in chinatown (meaning, Dallas) this weekend (Plus a bonus Monday!) after the jump (follow the links for tickets). Also, saw Terminator last night and forget the haters: it's perfectly enjoyable. Friday, May 22 Flock of Seagulls @ HOB (Ed: Wut?) Margot and the Nuclear So and So's [...]
Pop Muzik [...]
"Futureshock's sound is what Lil Wayne wishes he could create with his new 'rock influenced direction.'"

You can't say you didn't see it coming. After the bombing of his debut album Audio Daydream and its subsequent singles, Blake Lewis had no choice but to retreat to the warm embrace of the dancefloor after he was dropped from his label. So Blakey's back, coming at us with a cover of the classic Flock of Seagulls hit, "I Ran (So Far Away)," with production by Darude , the creator of "Sandstorm." Yes...you know the track. It's that gritty, machine-gun burst of techno perfection that dominated every Bar Mitzvah playlist [...]

A new video for an unreleased cover version of Flock of Seagulls' 'Wishing' by Sankt Otten is now available for viewing on YouTube. Directed by Lucy Knollmeyer, it's wonderfully eerie, like an animated painting, and Sankt Otten's music is a fitting tribute to the seminal '80s band, sounding in parts like Sigur Ros. Well worth checking out.

I've never bought completely into the idea that the term New Wave was merely a cynical move on the part of record labels to make Punk more marketable. Although it's true that a potentially flexible term like "New Wave" (just like "alternative" years later) would provide enough wiggle room for labels to market relatively new acts like Devo while simultaneously being able to squeeze in repackaged 1970's acts (see: J. Geils Band ) and hitch a hip wagon to by-then mainstream acts (see: Blondie ) [...]
