If you follow new music at all, you've surely run into the trendy "lo-fi" movement by now. Now, if you are old like me, you will remember the "lo-fi" movement of the early 1990's courtesy of bands like Sebadoh and their four-track recorders. Well, the old trusty four tracks have been upgraded to GarageBand and the like. As with most genres, there's a ton of copy-cat junk out there now, but there are always some gems as well. As the Internet Forever tag line goes - "Good at Songs, Bad at Fidelity" [...]

In life, the best things are usually the ones you don't know about, stumble upon and end up enjoying thoroughly. It's hard to plan. The best things just fall into place. As is the case with music festivals (and CMJ is no exception to this rule) it may be the reason for the phrase. Like SXSW, CMJ is full of unofficial parties, secret shows, and all sorts of RSVP lists that open the doors to epic parties, or parties that could be epic but no one knew about them, and hence, no one showed up. Luckily, we're going to clear [...]
Vampire Weekend -"Horchata" ; For the first single off their highly anticipated sophomore album Vampire Weekend have resorted to a lot of the tricks that propelled them in the first place. Repetition, catchy lyrics, tribal rhythms are in place once again and once again the song is impossible to shake from your head. If this is an indicator of what we're in for Vampire Weekend are probably not going to be fading away any time soon. Grade : A- Frankie Rose & The Outs - "Thee Only [...]

Fluffy Lumbers - "Harry Dolland's" As Rose Quartz so helpfully illuminates us, Ridgewood, NJ's Fluffy Lumbers have a second 7-inch in the pipeline (the first being the Police Crusiers 73 that you should pick up if you haven't already). The new one is due out soon on Group Tightener , the label that's also putting out the Best Coast In My Room 73 , and this track is the A-side.
Fluffy Lumbers - Harry Dolland's Samuel Franklin's Fluffy Lumbers has graced a number of the internet's best corners since we first shone the torchlight on his scruffy bedroom pop a few months ago. Since then he's put out the totally charming Police Cruisers 7" (grab here if you haven't!), played a bunch of rad shows with cool bandz, and is about to do it all over again. This track "Harry Dolland's" will be set in wax by new Brooklyn label Group Tightener later this year with [...]

There has been all of these wicked lo-fo surf pop coming out. it's great. Fluffy Lumbers - Cruisers

I've been mulling through this idea for the past couple of weeks, and finally decided to yank the plug on the weekly mixtape installment. Not saying I'm done making mixes all together, but I feel like they should be more of a novel concept. Maybe something seasonal? Not sure, don't really want to obligate myself to anything. But, when then mixtapes do roll-out I'll make sure you guys know about it. Dem Hunger - Charles Shit Drake ft. Nipsey Hustle - Killer O'Spada - Time (DA SUCKSHAFT Remix) [...]

I'll be (hopefully noticeably) absent from the show on UtahFM this week and next. Check back on August 29th for the return and the following Saturday, September 5 I'll be doing a solid 3 hour set from 9-12am. For now, here are some of the latest and greatest tracks to come across my plate in recent days/weeks. The Magic Kids - Hey Boy Fluffy Lumbers - Cruisers Fluffy Lumbers - Cruisers Pt. 2 (Police Cruisers) Small Black - Despicable Dogs [...]

Ridgewood, NJ, a place that has already gifted us a pretty hefty dowry in ensuring that our hand is forever its own in sacred nerdy matrimony, is the haunt of Samuel Franklin's all day, every day cruisin' as Fluffy Lumbers - making bighearted, small fidelity baroque garage hard hitters such as the appropriately named "Cruisers" - a freewheeling super-eight whole-life holiday hometaping soundtrack that both coasts along bare backed and no-hands with a windswept, contented hippy nostalgia in its warm mid-tempo guitar washes/bygone era funfair organs and bristles with a growing-painless, [...]

While making my internet rounds the other day, I happened to see our Hold Yr Breath mixtape pinned up at one of our favorite record label's blogs . Underwater Peoples , that is. It was also good to see that the mix was in good company with a variety of other mixes from some of my favorite music watering holes . One of these mixes that particularly caught my eye was that of the Wild Animal Kingdom . Fathering many of my favorite artists that are now on Underwater Peeps [...]
