Continuing the Decibel Tolls' celebration of Mr. David Madson, a.k.a. Odd Nosdam (featured below, lookin' mighty handome), finally collecting all of his sludgegaze-hop non-LP jams together on one priced-to-own, triumphant double disc collection, Pretty Swell Explode , it's time to celebrate... with a super fun history lesson, complete with classroom activity ideas. Take a seat, kids. One of the obvious standout tracks from the compilation, and his most standout collaboration in my opinion, is "Untitled Sketch" featuring Jessica Bailiff . This song [...]

From the insert: "Bela Koe-Krompecher's 26th birthday party at Stache's in Columbus, Ohio, June 18, 1994. The party actually started at 3:00 pm in Bela's backyard. Kegs were flowing, and Pete Jamison manned the grill, while Bela's grandmother, beer in hand, presided over the whole affair from a lazy boy in the middle of the yard. Records were traded, lies were told, and perception was severly impaired. Around 10:00 pm the party went modile, stumbling a few blocks away to Stache's. The drink of choice was Rolling Rock, and before GBV took the stage, at least one band member caught [...]

The first time I played an FSA 7" my eyes bulged, my mouth fell open, my eyebrow(s) raised, and an imbecilic smile spread across my face. Revolutionary. Noisy. And just fucking cool. I was an instant FSA junkie, chomping at the bit to buy any and every skronky hiccup they stamped into a puck of vinyl. I have mixed feelings about passing my FSA habit on to you. Some of the addictive effect is probably lost when one simply downloads their songs en masse from a digital archive. To compensate, I will post half of their singles now and half [...]

Everyone have a good weekends? If your big Halloween party was Friday or Saturday night, I hope you took my costume advice. Otherwise, you've got until Wednesday to figure out how to dress as the dirty sex act known as "space docking." As for me, I was rather inebriated last evening. Drunkest I've been in a very long time. I have...I have weird flashes of memories, but not much else. I awoke with on the couch with a weird bruise on the right side of my torso. Anyone who commented on Thursday's post will receive their personalized top [...]
I'm not even sure how to begin retelling the story of the first day of this trip. Everything started out innocently enough. I awoke long before my alarm was scheduled to sound. This could be attributed to my horribly sore muscles begging for attention, or it could be related to my long history of waking up early due to distrusting alarm clocks. Either way, I awoke an hour or two before I should have, showered, packed, and waited for Ilya to pick me up so we could head over to Steve's and begin our caravan to the bay area. [...]

Self-dubbed "rural psychedelia" and "The best new band on mars", my jaw dropped the first time I heard the mysterious and alien Bristol band Flying Saucer Attack circa 1993. Their early releases were vinyl only, were pressed in limited quantities, and bore the admonishment to "Keep Vinyl Alive". It's mostly FSA's fault that I went vinyl-mad in the early-to-mid 90s. It was fun. There were no mp3s or websites, so if you heard about a cool band, you wrote to the label, received a catalog, placed your order, and waited for the happy slam of the mailbox lid. [...]
I'm not in a talky mood. Class "Yuko & Hiro" (Blur cover) Many thanks to Peter of Class for sending this my way, as I could not locate my copy anywhere. The Droyds "North Country Boy" (The Charlatans [UK] cover) Ether Aura "I Speak Every Word" (Curve cover) Katscan "Connection" (Elastica cover) [...]

While sitting at my desk last night basically wasting my time on the Internet I found myself listening to the Flying Saucer Attack album, Further . Sometimes I just flat out don’t listen to some albums enough, and this would be one of them. It’s terrible too because this is quite honestly of the most beautiful albums ever made and I consistently neglect to put it in my CD player. Further when compared to the majority of the Flying Saucer Attack’s [...]
