For Puff Daddy and company, it's all about the benjamins. For MUF, it's all about getting that REM sleep with some good indie sleep music . For our followers, you already dug into Sleep Music Vol. 1 , which featured some ridiculously sleepy songs with the likes of Bon Iver and Tycho (both on our top 100 songs of 2011 ). Remember, we're not going mainstream on you, so you probably haven't heard any of these songs. The truth about these sleep lists is I made them for my wife, who [...]

With the horizon of a new year seemingly inches away, we're proud to present our best songs of 2011. We have been slaving over albums and hidden tracks for the past month, but now the beginning of our five-part list of the best of the best. 50. The Airborne Toxic Event - Half of Something Else Very similar to 20082s "Sometime Around Midnight", TATE is back with a similar formula and not a bad album either. I guess if you've got the chemistry down, why change it? 49. Radiohead [...]

So hear it is. The result of months of hard work from some of our favorite bands across this nation (and even a special cameo from one of our favorite American outfits). Basically, the idea was simple: Pay tribute to a Canadian legend on Canada Day. Oh, and get some free content for the blog of course. In all seriousness, Gordon Lightfoot has been making music for decades and his stories are passed from generation to generation. Unfortunately, when asked about the greatest Canadian songwriters, Gordon is often left off the list. [...]
Folly and The Hunter is an indie folk band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Catchy melodies, multiple harmonies and a subtly crafted mix of acoustic instruments blend to create warm and full compositions. Folly and the Hunter bases its sound in the American folk tradition and pulls inspiration from contemporary indie and post-rock trends, resulting in [...]

Secret City Records has curated a roster of eclectic musicians that are consistently top shelf, despite each band sounding completely unique. Refusing to cater to a standard sound, it might be impossible for Secret City to put together a fluent gig, but the label's latest signing, Daniel Isaiah , might be the bridge that connects the dots. Hints of Canadiana, spacey pop, warm organ notes and even Dixieland are introduced with a deft touch, but Isaiah works best when he's delivering Gold -era Ryan Adams nuggets like "High Twilight" and [...]

At the moment the world appears to be ending in Massachusetts. Thunder, rain and tornados are reeking havoc. Bad weather is nothing new for a Buffalo bred boy, and Folly and the Hunter shared the experience of a long and cold winters. Admittedly the Montreal based band recored their debut album, Residents , during one of those depressing winters. Like the famed soulful Bon Iver, winter suited them well. Folly and the Hunter's brand of folk does not always make you think of the hardships of winter though, but should rather conjure images of warm evenings spent listening to guitar strumming on a porch. Full of feeling, [...]

by teepoo Folly and the Hunter's new album Residents dropped March 5th. It's a multi-instrumental piece of magical artwork from the group from Montreal. I think lately, I've been really into the indie-folk albums that have been released in 2011 and Residents is not exception. The album ranges from almost pop tunes to ambient moments that paint a picture of something that is storyland like. Check out the banjo-heavy track Cost . Folly and the Hunter- Cost [...]

This weeks round up of the tracks that I haven't had the space to post... Giraffage From: San Francisco, United States Dreamy dance pop that makes you go all wonky at the knees. Go Try [...]

I'm always looking for those perfect songs that are good for everyday soundtracks. Sure, we all have those designated tunes we put on for certain moments - road trips, workouts, heartbreaks, dance parties, the lists are endless. But I often find that I need more of those "everyday feel good" songs that I can play at any moment. You know the genre I'm talking about. The songs that are perfect for commutes to work and school. The songs that give you that inspiration to complete that never-ending to do list that's been haunting you. And they are [...]
Weekly Roundup is back with a few tunes and a video for you to enjoy.
Out of Montreal come indie folk group Folly & the Hunter. The band recently released their debut album Residents. You can get a flavour for it with the video for the track "Revolution Drums": You can download the track "Cost" for free from the band's bandcamp page below. Folly & the Hunter's website

Folly and the Hunter may live amongst the bustle of Montreal, moving freely amongst the culture, food and love that gives the city its unique pulse, but their sound feels like it was born kilometers from the thumping percussion of the anthemic epicenter of the city. On name alone, you'd assume their debut LP Residents , is a love letter to their home, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The trio - Nick Vallee, Lauri-A Torres, and Christopher Fox - crafts layered folk songs that surge forward with freedom, [...]

Folly & The Hunter hail from Montreal where they actually share a studio space with The Barr Brothers whom I posted about last week. Folly & the Hunter's debut album, Residents , fits right in a little niche with bands like Little Scream, Seryn, and Frontier Ruckus to name a few. I crave this type of music on a regular, nearly daily, basis, so I've been overjoyed to have this new one in my rotation. The music is the kind that can make you walk clear across town, lost in the music [...]

I feel horrible. I really do. And its not as though i'm feeling horrible-as in sick-horrible-its basically because today is April 17th and it is snowing. Not only is it snowing but there is freezing rain and sleet all the way along the highway that I was supposed to be driving on to get home from school. So in summary, I am NOT sick; It is snowing (when there should be sun and fun); there is freezing rain keeping me in sleepy London, Ontario for one more night instead of being back at home with the family in Toronto. [...]
