Ears Peeled, Queens of the Stone Age.

It's all ears on Homme at the minute as the, well,  homme and his fellow rabble-rousers continue to unleash bits and pieces from Queens of the Stone Age's  forthcoming sixth full-length recording  ...Like Clockwork and having already bestowed My God Is The Sun , and both I Sat By The Ocean and If I Had A Tail upon ye we've now another from that infamous Studio Brussel session in the form of ruinous chugger Keep Your Eyes Peeled. An appositely disquieting listen, the clodhopping thud of a superbly guttural guitar forms the [...]

Our Top 10 Favorite Songs of All-Time, Pt. IV

Our Top 10 Favorite Songs of All-Time, Pt. IV Every day since we decided to post our top 10 favorite songs of ALL TIME, I have kept a piece of paper with me and throughout the day I would write down a song that came to mind. Erasing my whole “pop-punk” phase (Taking Back Sunday would probably be the only thing on my list), this assignment was pretty easy. Yes, you are probably amazed that my list isn’t a combination of Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake and a dash of Beyonce, but honestly those artists would have their own top 10 lists. I absolutely hate the question of "What is [...]

The Dave Grohl Meme About The Kids

"Since when did it become cool to become part of the establishment?" This question was posed to me by a friend walking across our university alma mater's campus during the 2004 presidential election. The wash of Bush/Cheney signs from dorm room windows was simply soul crushing. However, by 2004 this wave of late teen/early twenties [...] The post The Dave Grohl Meme About The Kids appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

Review: Slonk Donkerson – Watching Every Channel At Once [EP]

Review: Slonk Donkerson – Watching Every Channel At Once [EP] Check out the new EP, Watching Every Channel At Once , from “ultimate parlor room name game” winner Slonk Donkerson. It approaches that Foo territory without ever getting too Foo. The title track could be a lost Slothbear cut, as they're both very much of that same slacker vein and NYC sound. Slonk tags Dylan, Husker Du and The Replacements on their Soundcloud, and indeed there’s something Midwestern about them, an ethos borne from the garages of middle-America. I’d be hard pressed to find a band of this particular breed in LA, but the fact is that any coast, [...]

What do Beyonce , One Direction, Kanye West, Ke$ha, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Usher, Tim McGraw, Pearl Jam, No Doubt  and Gotye  have in common? They're all richer than you! Also, they're all part of the new Global Citizen Tickets Initiative, a new project designed to incite social activism by offering people free concert tickets. When I Grow Up...

When I Grow Up... I wanna be Dave Grohl. Fucker gets to play with everyone from Led Zep to Lee Ving. Here's the Foo Fighters dressing up as Rush circa 1978 (last nite at the rock n roll hof)- dig the white robes: and Keith ( aka Johnny Bob Goldstein ) Morris and the other guys (Chuck Dukowski, Dez Cadena, Bill Stevenson and the Descendents' Steven Edgerton) restoring my preferred era of Black Flag launched their tour: and of course the Ozzy led Black Sabbath just released their [...]

Watch Foo Fighters cover Rush with Rush at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

Watch Foo Fighters cover Rush with Rush at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction Dave Grohl  is a man of many hats: rock star, drum god, film director, and now a bona fide detective. While inducting prog-rock overlords Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night, Inspector Grohl pondered one of rock's true mysteries: "When the fuck did Rush become cool?" The answer, dear Watson, was quite elementary: "Their legacy is that of a band that stayed true to themselves no matter how uncool they seemed to anyone. Rush have always been cool! Consider this mystery solved and it's our honor to finally induct Rush into the Rock and [...]

Queens of the Stone Age - My God Is The Sun
Is it so wrong to suggest that this, the first recording heard in quite some time of Josh Homme's  Queens of the Stone Age – a band that effortlessly; endlessly exudes badass – sounds strikingly redolent of 50 Cent's P.I.M.P.? Obviously the trashy rap track in question is, well, utter claptrap by comparison though at the core of My God Is The Sun is this incisive guitar line which proves immediately evocative of  Fiddy's  purported finest. It's then enwrapped in rampant tambourines, an incendiary chorus, zippy fretwork, Homme's typically lethargic, bloodshot slur and all other manner of invigorating intimations of [...]
