Football, etc. continue to support The Draft , released last year on CYLS. The album [...]

First down - Football, etc. Ok... A down begins with a snap or free kick (such as a kickoff or safety kick), and ends when the ball or the player in possession of it is declared down by an official, a team scores, or the ball or player in possession of it leaves the field of play. Down is also an adjective to describe the condition of the player with possession of the ball after he has been [...]

Catch the spirit - Football, etc. Doing this last thing last night meant i was prone for having it here this morning, and here we are. A chance to reiterate how incredible Football, etc. are. And i'm so elated that they are . It is a rare thing that i love an active band - that i'm at once aware and so completely receptive of a band doing things here and now. And especially one in this style of music. Where once there [...]

Catch the spirit - Football, etc. Wow, i'm really late with this. Technically it's tomorrow already. Anyway, those many hours ago when i woke up it was this song by the incredible and still active Football, etc. There's no etcetera about it - it's all football. Every song and album title a gridiron reference. You would think it would get old and quickly but they run it into the ground so wonderfully. This song is from their demo, entitled First Down . Eighteen [...]

"New Brunswick's Tin Kitchen guitarist/vocalist Lindsay Minton and bassist Mercy Harper moved to Houston, TX in 2008 and soon formed football, etc. They self-released First Down EP (2009) which garnered attention from emo revivalists everywhere and was cause for comparisons to Rainer Maria, Mineral, and American Football. Former Austin shoegazer James Vehslage (ex-For Those Who Know; Ringo Deathstarr; She, Sir) took over the drumming duties in 2010 just in time to go on a summer tour of the Midwest/East coast with PS Eliot and record the band's first full length effort in the fall. The spring of 2011 will see [...]

Whether or not the origins for naming their band football, etc. (a pretty strange name) had anything to do with emo heroes American Football , these three youngsters from Texas do sound an awful lot like that band (which broke up after just one acclaimed album over a decade ago). And I mean that in a good way. So yes, football, etc. are an emo band then, but don’t let that put you off giving them a listen. This isn’t the kind of brazen, modern day emo that involves guy-liner, angsty moaning or big budget MTV videos. [...]

Here are a bunch of tunes that we've meant to post about for a while, but wanted to do them a bit more justice too than it turns out we're able. It is the regular refrain of blogs like ours we know, but it doesn't make it feel like any less of a cop out to not find the time to write these up properly. So, with apologies to the artists involved, here is a wonderful and eclectic mix for a wet Wednesday in February. The Seedy Seeds will release new album [...]

Imagine if Sunny Day Real Estate was fronted by a female vocalist, because plain and simple that is exactly what Football, etc. sound like. However this isn't a bad thing, as this 7" shows, 'Away Game' sees Lindsay's vocals melt on top of the bands 90's emo sound, and when mixed with their delicate guitar sounds, it creates a bright, uplifting feel. Whilst 'XXL' begins more lively before settling into a comforting, laid back style, one which suits the band perfectly well. Its simplicity enables the band to subtly produce [...]

Two bands with peculiar names provide a delicate and admirable short slice of laid-back (90's) emo with this split 7". Last time I reviewed Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), I pointed out their consistent use of lo-fi, laid back style that was reminscent of bands like Mineral. 'Documenting Thirty Days' sees the band continuing this favourable trend, as the track has a tempo that slowly brews and aching vocals that provide an intimate atmosphere. It is somewhat expected that the track concludes with the four-piece going off an distorted, soaring tangent with stabbing guitars. [...]
Count Your Lucky Stars sign Football, etc. Michigan's Count Your Lucky Stars have announced their latest signing of Houston, TX indie / emo band, Football, etc. Rising from the ashes of the short-lived Tin Kitchen, the band's no-nonsense approach to music is as refreshing as it is honest. The three piece continues to put the finishing touches on their first demo, cleverly titled, First Down. The EP will be released by the band in July. Football, etc [...]
