Iceland is a bijou country built upon an infrastructure of inaccurate information that many tend to misinterpret. Those who envision Iceland picture a magical fairyland full of curious creatures, and associate their music based on what they've heard from Björk and artists alike. While it's hard to define the Icelandic music style, many artists have come to embrace a sonic similarity falling under a more natural, orchestral genre. Defining a country so foreign to many is hard to do, but digging into their musical archives definitely helps us understand and appreciate the magic they harbor so magnificently. [...]

Various: Made in Iceland V - Stream Toi aussi tu kiffes la musique qui vient du froid?… So you love music coming from Nordic countries too?

Montreal, Quebec has always been at the pinnacle of arts and entertainment in Canada, if not in all of North America. Aside from deliciously artery-clogging amounts of poutine (the secret is in the fries) on every street corner, a hearty smorgasbord of lively bars and pubs, and some of the prettiest people on the planet, the city is inundated throughout the year with various festivals and events. In fact, there are so many festivals in Montreal that it's hard to keep track and even locals may be desensitized as to "what's going on this weekend." It would be [...]

Frank Yang It's hard to believe it was only a month ago that I was roaming the streets of Reykjavik, getting ready to dive headlong into Iceland Airwaves . Not that long ago, but enough to welcome a reminder of how much fun it all was, which I got from the Toronto Iceland Arts Festival at the El Mocambo on Sunday night, which as part of its celebration of all things Icelandic included the importing of a couple of the country's finest up-and-coming bands. I had thought that being the [...]
![RUBIK, FUN, THE DRUMS [SUGGESTED NYC CONCERTS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3844059_lg.jpg)
There's a ton of great shows in NYC this week, creating an interesting dilemma for those that need to select just one or two. The Drums , fun. , Young Man , Lucius , ARMS , Kurt Vile & the Violators , and Cloud Nothings are all playing our fine city, but it's still our 2nd B-Day Bash that I'm most excited for. Featuring Rubik , Ambassadors , Yellowbirds , E-603 , and For a Minor Reflection , Manhattan venue Pianos will [...]

On Friday, November 11, we're taking over the music venue Pianos in lower Manhattan and celebrating the 2nd birthday of The Wild Honey Pie . In planning our b-day bash, I couldn't think of a better way than bringing 5 of my absolute favorite bands together and inviting our friends and readers out to party down with me and the rest of the team. Having this blog/website has been an amazing time and gets better every day. Thank you for all the continued support and I hope to see you on 11/11/11! [...]

Anthony Bacigalupo Okay so I know I probably said I was done with all things Iceland when I wrapped up my Iceland Airwaves coverage a couple weeks ago , but this is actually relevant for those who won't be hopping on a plane to the Blue Lagoon anytime soon. You see, while a large part of Airwaves' mandate is to bring bands and fans from the rest of the world to Iceland, it also works hard to export its own talent beyond the Bjorks and Sigur Ros', and one of its targets is none [...]

Naja, [...]

I'll admit it. We fell into the same trap that every magazine and blog on the planet did. The self-indulgent, we-know-what-you-should-like-b etter-than-you-do Best Albums of 2010 list. Here at TDOA headquarters, we'd like to think that we've given you some names that weren't familiar and provided you with some surprises. But at the end of the day, who better to assess the state of music than the musicians themselves? So, we reached out to every band that we interviewed in 2010 and asked them to give us their favorite albums of the year. [...]

Each year, we've posted our top ten albums of the previous year. 2010 was a particularly good year for music and for TDOA. Thanks to the bands, the labels, the promoters and most of all....the readers. This year we're presenting individual lists from the three main contributors to the site. Each brings their own tastes and we think you'll enjoy each of them. Todd - Editor/Writer 01 Sleigh Bells- Treats Purchase it via iTunes or Amazon [...]

Hailing from Iceland FaMR comprises of four 20-somethings from Reykjavík, Iceland - Kjartan Holm (guitar), Guðfinnur Sveinsson (guitar and piano), Elvar Jón Guðmundsson (bass) and Andri Freyr Þorgeirsson (percussion). Their music is best described as energetic, melodious post-rock, though being the natural creative visionaries they are, the band expand and even subvert their style with almost every song. Kjarton, lead guitarist and songwriter talked to Todd about their album of the year-candidate release, Höldum í átt að óreiðu. TDOA: We've interviewed several bands from Iceland and are very aware of the great history [...]
