Photos by: Rachel Keenan Thankfully, the rain dissipated to welcome the first proper full slate evening of Noise Pop acts. It's always a bit of transition to slip into "festival" mode, where four band bills can test the weariness of your legs and ears, not to mention your liver. The sets can be a bit shorter, if not strategic, but the discovery of a new bff band is always looming. Although the room was slowly filling up, it was fitting to hear a pocket of natural reverb grace the harmony-driven 60s basement pop [...]
Music has been evolving into a new era. A new flux of creativity, a mixxxxing of genres and talents, collaboration. A progression toward embracing influence and reference, all leaning heavily on what technology has made available. I don't really know what I'm talking about as more than anything beyond ...

From "Free Energy" to "Dark Trance," Free Energy has been hinting at their forthcoming debut full-length album since the Spring. San Francisco's week-long arts festival, Noise Pop, kicks off tomorrow (Tuesday, 2/22) and offers a long list of strange multimedia experiences at venues across the City. And looking at the roster of musical acts booked this year, one could assume that the City's pot dealers will be extra busy this week. Performers include Four Tet, Rogue Wave, The Magnetic Fields, The Dodos, Zee Avi, !!!, Edward Sharpe and the Zeros, John Vanderslice, Atlas Sound, Memory Tapes, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Thao Nguyen, Mark Kozelek, Foreign Born, Far and The Soundtrack of Our Lives. Yoko Ono [...]

Noise Pop is back and better than ever.
Foreign Born have been around for a few year. Their latest album, Person to Person, dropped last July. This afternoon I stumbled across this remix, done by Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, of Foreign Born's song "Early Warnings". I liked the original and the remix both, so you can check them out below. Also, watch the music video for the track below as well. - Joel Foreign Born - "Early Warnings" Foreign Born - "Early Warnings (Boys Like Us Rostam Batmanglij Remix)"

Like Us Rostam Batmanglij remix) (via p4k )
I can't get enough of this remix by Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend. The auto-tune, the filters, the reverb, the drums... its great. To be honest, I heard "Early Warnings" about a year ago and I am embarrassed to say it didn't stick with me. Alas, I have come around and this is one of those remixes [...]

Foreign Born = Early Warnings (Rostam Batmanglij’s Boys Like Us Remix) Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend remixes Foreign Born’s “Early Warnings”….and it’s so good. (vai FADER )

By now you should know that we love us some Vampy Weeks . But did you know we have to take our shirts off every time we listen to the warm Afro-pop stylings of Foreign Born? It's true. And while we can't say that Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij experiences a similar reaction when listening to the LA outfit, he's expressed his feelings by remixing springy Person To Person cut "Early Warnings." Focusing heavily on the endlessly descending Afro-pop steel-drummed guitar line that acts as the song's axis, Batmanglij adds a layer of digitized, [...]

Things I would do immediately if elected president: 1.) Deport Bob Costas, preferably to someplace really unpleasant. His smarminess at the Olympics reflects badly on all of us. A vote for me (in a fictional presidential election) would be a vote against Bob Costas, professional douchebag. 2.) Posthumously appoint Richard Prior as Minister of Education. (Gainin' on ya!) 3.) Buy several more suits, hopefully at a steep presidential discount. You've got to look right for those state dinners and what not. 4.) Use Pentagon slush fund to buy (wait for [...]
