There is plenty to see this weekend. So much, that I don't think I can cover it all. In addition to shows that I have mentioned elsewhere, here are the highlights: There are a few shows hitting two venues over the next few days. The biggest is the return of Swervedriver . On the road road with them is Longwave and Terra Diablo . 6/7: Philly @ TLA 6/8: DC @ 9:30 mp3: Swervedriver - Son Of Jaguar [...]

the Foreign Islands are one of Brooklyn's best exports and trust me, that means a lot: the area is at the center of a musical revolution right now. i'm telling ya, the guys are definitely destined for greatness with their unique sound that can best be described as a mix of Smallwhitelight and Dead Disco. HERE is their best track yet - 'That's How This Goes Down'. you gotta love these guys! http://www.myspace.com/foreign islands damo's rock-a-bility rating: 3 out of 5 [...]

A last minute decision saw Pelski hurriedly packing a bag for the second day of the Gatecrasher festival. Both days collectively, without a doubt, provided the best line-up any festival offered this year (given the truly rubbish line-up of Glastonbury, while Global's and Creamfields' don't exactly stand out). Saturday boasted the likes of: Prodigy, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, The WHip Digitalism, Annnie Mac, The Count and Sinden, Switch, Bloc Party Djs, Crookers, Black Ghosts, Hijack Dj Mehdi, Busy P, Feadz (and...ahem...Uffie) [...]

Tonight is the start of 2007's version of The District's Awake! Music Festival or DAM! Fest as it is so eloquently marketed. As they are about to takeover the city, we found it only fitting that we do a preview of the first night. Since I'm too exhausted to wax poetic on all of these bands, I'll give quick comments on each bill, hook you up with some mp3s and allow you to map out your night. The Red and The Black (Doors @ 8:30) I feel that this bill exemplifies [...]

Spank Rock - BOOTAY ( ysi ) / ( zshare ) this is one of the best things going on right now: spank rock sampling 2 live crew which according to their myspace sounds like "fat girls in a hot tub ". bootay is spank rock & benny blanco's second single off their bangers & cash ep from which a new track each week will roll out here . i loved 2 live crew: [...]

There's just something about the French and their electronic music. Daft Punk, Justice, Teenage Bad Girl... and next in line is Boys Noize . I had heard Boys Noize remixes here and there for a while now and had grown into a fan, but it wasn't until somebody sent me his remix of Feist's "My Moon My Man" (as heard on Kitsune Maison Compilation 4 ) that I really grew to love his work. That remix is probably my favorite remix this year so far. Anyway, Boys Noize will [...]

Release Date: 02.20.07 Restart Now! is a lewd attack from future punks Foreign Islands. Charged with the temperamental moxie of a crack head celebrating his birthday, the Islands plant their flag deep into the spine of a territory first inhabited by fellow Brooklyn Zoo crews Liars, Les Savy Fav, and Radio 4. Vocalist Mark Ryan, leads the march of these new noise wizards who have been torching stages and exploding amps since their inception in 2005. "We Know You Know It" is a nasty little thing, seductive [...]

Brooklyn electro punks Foreign Islands release Restart Now! today as part of what they say is their way of "trying to kill like, shitty emo dude mythology." Their mix of shouty, mouthy sing-speak and buzz saw riffing guitar antics is more fun than a barrel full of monkeys strung out on ecstasy. You don't have to invest too much to get into Foreign Islands, just a willingness to get up and move, sweat a little (or a lot) and maybe a slight swelling of the eardrums, and despite the lengths [...]

Yessss, the big day has finally arrived. We celebrate with a triple handful, mostly of groups not yet posted here. (There are a couple of exceptions.) I'll put them in groups of five just to make it seem less daunting. Links are provided for each band. If the mp3 link doesn't work, clink on the band name to go to the SXSW bandsite, where the song should be downloadable. These SXSW links have been finicky at times. Previous SXSW 2007 postings can be found here , here , here , here , [...]
Here is a nifty 10 track mix of new rock stuff... Foreign Islands - Ghost Story Retreat Now! New wave-y punk rawk. Field Music - She Can Do What She Wants Tones Of Town Geek rawk, British style. Kaiser Chiefs - Heat Yours Truly, Angry Mob Madness + XTC = rawkin' Kaisers. Robbers On High Street - The Fatalist The Fatalist And Friends EP Spoon-like rawk. Kings Of Leon - Charmer Because Of The

It's a shame these guy aren't from England, because then Derek Davies (of GWFAS fame) would be allowed to like them. It's strange that Foreign Islands haven't blown up yet, especially since they hail from the indie-hipster capital of the United States, but the Brooklyn outfit is definitely going to get big this year with it's raw, spastic style of electro-dance-punk. If you dig Les Savy Fav, Thunderbirds Are Now!, or any other band that flawlessly brings a punk-rock attitude to the dance floor, then you will absolutely love Foreign Islands. [...]

By Kenny Komer I used to live on the same block as this great squat in Copenhagen, Ungdomshuset (or The Youth House), with a grand ballroom where they had punk shows and strange performance art. It was originally built in the 1890's as a base for the Copenhagen worker's movement. I would always ride my bike across town to Christiania to buy hash, and sit on the grass and eat this magical energy cake with an elderflower juice. Christiania, for those who don't know, is an amazing [...]

Brooklyn, NY Woooooo, I love these guys! Foreign Islands is full of rhythmic fun and I can only guess that their live show will be even more energetic than the studio recording. Catch them here in DC at Black Cat on Monday night with The Young Knives. Correction: I just noticed that this show was cancelled!!! WTF??? Here's a remix of an excellent track from their debut, Restart Now! "Fine Dining With The Future (Boys Noize Remix)" [...]
The view from the front Winter has hit with a vengeance. After a bitterly cold February we've gone from 12 inches of snow over the last 4 months to nearly 30 inches of snow just this week. It actually all fell over three days. Those snow banks you see are waist high in some places. I can't remember the last time I had so much snow piled up in my yard. I feel like I have been shoveling for an
