Who today listens to just domestic music? With Australia cranking out catchy indie rock tunes and the U.K. turning out its usual steady stream of musical exports, exotic music is on the rise. However, with such easy access to foreign and domestic music, it is sometimes difficult to sift through all of the bands and new tracks. This calls for a musical Sacagawea. Here are some new songs that will hopefully ease your way through the unfamiliar music territory. 1. “On Fire” by Loon Lake- Australia Australia is just booming with amazing [...]

One of the greatest music festivals in the world recently returned as a championship contender when they released their lineup for 2013. Lately, the festival seemed to rely mainly on its prestige alone. After all, it is a festival that spans over 11 days and has more than 800 acts performing on 11 different stages. The festival is a vision of the great late mayor of Milwaukee, Henry Maier, who wanted a massively relative festival that would compare to the joyous Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. He started the tradition that became Summerfest in 1968. The lineup [...]

Dave B gives us this short and sweet record, "Foreign", not off his forthcoming Coffee EP. The instrumental comes from MF DOOM, so you already know. Peep it below.

It's supposed to be the coldest night of the year tonight. It was cold during the winter of '81/'82. Or maybe it wasn't and I merely recollect it as so. I do know for certain that it was during that winter that time I might have previously spent sprawled out in the family room watching television was being spent sprawled out in my bedroom, listening to the radio. Music had become an increasing curiosity in my world over the previous year or so as I realized that the subject was being broached as [...]

Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones says he seriously considered retirement after undergoing a bypass procedure in February. "I didn't know what was going to happen," Jones tells Artisan News. "I was sort of coming to terms with the fact that it might be a possibility. But, at the end of the day, it's what keeps me alive." Jones, who founded the [...]

I happened to catch part of an American Top 40 countdown while running errands with Jeepster this morning. Casey Kasem was doing his thing just as he had from this week in 1974. At the time of the original broadcast, I was a first-grader trying to adjust to a school in a small town where I had lived for less than a year. Most of my classmates seemed to be related and most of their parents had gone to school together. Not good times. And most of the songs Casey was playing [...]

He infuses asian oriented samples and runs it through his raw filters and grit packed percussions. Nothing but feel-good visions. 'King Cobra' says it all. Over a year ago the Wisconsin-via-Nashiville duo of Eric Hillman and Brian Holl formed Flights and set to work on recording an album. Earlier this year, after changing their name to Foreign Fields, their stunning debut LP Anywhere But Where I Am was released. A deft and sprawling marathon, the album is one the most perfectly constructed and beautifully delivered records of the year. The band recently hooked up with Mitch Buss to set about filming their first official video for The River Kings; a track taken from the aforementioned [...]
I Want To Know What Love Is - Foreigner Let me hear you say WeHo, WeHo! Mighty Monday was had today. Why oh why, do you say? Well, let me stop speaking in rhyming riddles and calm down a second. Now. OK. So. I've been going through a bit of a power ballad phase, in [...]

Most summers, from the time I was a small child until I left for college, there was a week, sometimes two, spent in western Pennsylvania, visiting grandparents, aunts, uncles and such. And as this was the '70s and '80s, long before humans had the ability to teleport, there was an eight-hour trip in the car to reach our destination. These ventures usually took place in the waning weeks of summer break, the hottest time of the year and in a a car without air conditioning. (hell, maybe we did have air conditioning, but [...]
