Playlist du 27 mars au 3 avril... Cela commence par un murmure ("Never Let me Go" de Stacey Kent).

And for anyone in Ottawa who wasn't lucky enough to win, I'd just like to draw your attention to the following show... Next Tuesday, April 1st, at Mavericks, i(heart)music is very proud to present... Back in October Shane and I saw Forest City Lovers open up for Joel Plaskett. We were both won over by the band's performance, remarking that the almost shy performance of the band suited the atmosphere perfectly. They were gracious, melodic and full of smiles, but I wondered how that would transfer to a studio release. What I didn't know is that Kat Burns and her band are seasoned performers and the new record is full of daring melodies and remarkable assuredness. Don't Go opens with Mika's Andrew Bird-like picked violin and Kat's [...]

As the lead track from Haunting Moon Sinking , the recently released sophomore album by Forest City Lovers , this tune is all class. Poised and elegant with a killer melody, "Don't Go" is the sort of plea that makes you want to leave just so you can hear them ask you to stay again and again. Forest City Lovers - Don't Go Check out the band's Myspace to hear more or grab a digital copy of Haunting Moon [...]

With finals behind me, I've had the chance to catch up on some of the music that's been in the queue for a while. One album to which I was excited to listen was that of Toronto's Forest City Lovers. Haunting Moon Sinking has got all the appeal of the new(ish) Canadian folk scene, with fresh and intriguing vocals and irresistible hooks and melodies. As they state themselves, they're 75% Capricon, 50% left-handed, and 100% friends. Indeed, this light-hearted approach to music is reflective in Forest City Lovers' sophomore LP (third overall release), and is thoroughly enjoyable. Be [...]

For those who like: Feist, Cat Power, Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton, Andrew Bird I rarely come across an album that I want to listen to from beginning to end. There is always at least one song, often more, that tempts me to hit the skip button. With the Toronto band Forest City Lovers, that is not the case. In fact, I have already put the album on repeat quite a few times. I only came across the band a few weeks ago, and am absolutely in love with their 2006 debut album, The Sun and [...]

I was very happy to see that the schedule for this year's Hillside Festival went up yesterday. Seeing as how it's taking place in just two weeks out in Guelph, there are logistical issues to be sorted out - namely getting there and back - and knowing when to show up is certainly a big part of that. I'm actually kind of pleased that there's not too much enticing happening on Friday night - hearing Chumbawumba play "Tubthumbing" on acoustic guitars isn't as appealing as you might think - as [...]

Sometimes, songs are so exceedingly beautiful that I almost overlook what is going on beneath the melodies and harmonies. In the case of Forest City Lovers , I was so entranced by what I heard that it took some time for it to dawn on me how melancholy the music is. There is a sadness that haunts their stunning album "The Sun and the Wind" but it is far from depressing. This isn't music of despair, as brief moments of hope can be found throughout the songs - the appearance of horns, a joyful chorus, the tinkling of [...]

Thursday night at the Drake Underground, two bands with "City" in their name and yet neither sounding particularly urban. And there was a third band on the bill but they didn't fit with the "City" meme so I didn't stick around. It was also late. Entire Cities' name may refer to the band's roster, which if not large enough to constitute an official city should at least qualify as a village or at the very least, a hamlet. Eight of the ten members credited on their MySpace were in attendance this evening, [...]

I recently came across the beautiful sounds offered by Forest City Lovers , or how I was introduced to them, Kat Burns + The Forest City Lovers. I was immediately drawn to Burns' vocals and if you've liked some of the ladies that have been mentioned here in the past few weeks, this band will not disappoint. [...]
