Chicago's Sadhu Sadhu have been on my radar for quite some time now. I've championed them since I first heard their "Live At The Hideout" CD-R. I might have had some swell things to say about it , too. Well guess what? I've never actually seen them live. Shhh. I know. Tonight's the night, so if you dig trippy rocking psychedelic shit, you should [...]

While Sunday is the official last night of the festival -closing out with a special Next Big Nashville edition of Nashville Sunday Night at 3rd and Lindsley - Saturday night is the last real night of showcases, and you have nine to choose from before the official after party at City Hall. My pick of the evening is actually that after party - The Features and Jensen Sportag ? Sign me up. But earlier in the night you have lots of great stuff to choose from - particularly the Lake Fever showcase at [...]

Ever since the economic stimulus package was announced this spring, companies have been offering all kinds of promotions to get their greedy hands on your money entice you to help consumer spending by purchasing their products. Of course the catch is that to qualify for most of these offers, you have to spend your entire check in one place. I don't know about you, but in this failing economy, there really isn't anything I'm dying to spend six hundred bucks on. However, I'd gladly spend fifteen bucks to get five great rock albums. For a limited [...]

'Three is a crowd' is een Engels spreekwoord dat zeker opgaat voor relaties, als je tenminste niet van triootjes houdt. Ik heb de afgelopen jaren echter ontdekt dat dit spreekwoord in de rockmuziek zeker niet van toepassing is. Drie is...
Couple of interesting news items from Nashville's Theory 8 Records. First, one of the more promising young bands I've heard in the past couple of years, De Novo Dahl, managed to flip their van on ice yesterday while driving home from a show in Washington D.C.. Everyone is OK, thankfully, but the band's van and various instrumentation were destroyed. No word yet on whether those silly outfits
В черно-белом утомительном спокойствии на короткую минуту случается бунт: нервы героя Бениньи сдают и он начинает повторять смешную фразу « I scream-o, you scream-o, we scream-o for ice cream-o! ». Сокамерники подхватывают, и через полминуты уже по всей колонии разносится дружный ор — отличная разрядка для тягучей джармушевой меланхолии. [...]
Well, as pretty much every other blogger has done, I've compiled my list of favorites from '06. As I've said, I'm not calling this a "best of" list because I don't feel I'm qualified to use those words. I haven't heard EVERYTHING released this year, plus, I'm no expert. I just know what I like, and that's that. So, here's my list. These aren't in any order because I'm too indecisive to actually do that. I'm doing this in two parts because, well, that's what I feel like doing. Lindsey Buckingham , Under [...]

Today's band is arguably the loudest band that is participating in this feature. AVEC has been known to turn it up and put on a stellar live show. They can also turn it down a notch and be just as effective. No matter what they do, you will always go home satisfied. Ask around Baltimore and anybody who has seen them live, will tell you this. In fact, many of their biggest fans are other musicians. The band is gearing up for a big 2007 that is sure to get them attention far beyond the confines [...]
As I mentioned a couple of days ago, one of my favorite sets from CMJ was the show put on by Nashville's Forget Cassettes. If you don't listen to WOXY.com, you probably haven't heard the band's music, and that's a shame. Forget Cassettes are one of the few really good bands around these days playing what used to be called post-punk*, i.e., angular guitars, shifting time signatures, loud-soft
So with the release of the CMJ Schedule yesterday I've begun planning for my first forray to the marathon. It's going to be a crazy, jam packed week, with tons of tough decisions that will have to be made. It could also become a lot more crazy with events that haven't been announced so I'll try to keep you up to date as much as I can as the days near closer. If you feel like stalking me during the week you can try following the schedule I'll be posting here over the next few days. 2:00pm - [...]

First off, Nashville's Forget Cassettes has one of the best band names I've heard in ages. Something about it just sounds so right to me. And luckily, it's not wasted on a lousy band. Like Montreal's Land Of Talk , of whom they remind me more than just a little, they hearken back to the mid-90s alternative rock heyday of abrasive guitars and angsty female vocals but without sounding like a retread. On their second album Salt , they reclaim the quiet/loud/quiet dynamic, shake it free [...]

I found out that today is one of our Baltimore reader's birthday. I have been wanting to do a mix for awhile now, so I thought that this would be a great opportunity. This mix is basically inspired by some of her favorites and is mostly older material. It's nice, because this is some stuff that I haven't been able to get to much recently and it is a nice break from all of this ACL coverage. Our readers mean everything to us, so Happy Birthday. We wish you the best! [...]

I don't have a specific theme for today, or even a particular artist to pass your direction. All I've got are some tracks that are doing me good, so perhaps they might treat you the same. A couple of new ones, a couple of old ones, a couple of pertinent ones; but not enough for a mixtape or anything. Call me indecisive. The Black Keys release their new album today, titled Magic Potion . Saw the boys live at the Fillmore on Saturday night, impressive as always. I always [...]
Do yourself a favor and head over to Union Pool tonight. Check out the bands playing - shits going to be killer. If you're unfamiliar with these bands do yourself a favor and listen to some tracks. After that hop on the L (if it's running) and head to Union Pool. MP3's: Model America - Read Yellow The Catch - Forget Cassettes Lost In Boredom - The Art of Shooting

Sorry I haven't updated in a couple of days. Things have been crazy busy and I just have not had the time, or energy, to make a proper post. It's settled down a little around here, so I should be able to get caught up. Look for some good stuff in the next few days. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of catching the record release party for Forget Cassettes new album, Salt , at The Southgate House in Newport, KY. But, wait, you say...isn't Forget [...]
