Photos and words by Debi Del Grande Spunky, guitar-shredding, vocalist Ritzy Bryan may go fucking mad driving on the 405 like the rest of us, but that madness was unleashed at The Fonda as everyone was out of their cars and moving to the trio's latest Wolf's Law . The constant interaction between Bryan, Rhydian Dafydd (bass, backing vox, keys) and Matt Thomas (percussion and wearing stylish sneakers this time around) and the fans kept the energy level high the entire night. I always feel like I can have a shot of whiskey with this [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Dan Reilly There are thousands of artists in Austin for SXSW , and I'll be seeing a lot of them. This year, I decided to challenge myself and write about every band I see, no matter how much of their set I caught, or even if I saw/heard them unintentionally. Most of these "reviews" are pieced together from my illegible notebook scribblings, but that's all I've got. [...]

Yesterday, Consequence of Sound hosted a day full of SXSW festivities, beginning with our second annual unofficial day party, CoSigns, featuring Thurston Moore's Chelsea Light Moving, The Thermals, Mac DeMarco, St. Lucia, Ex-Cops, Wampire, White Lung, Fort Lean, Teen, and AbdeCaf. In the evening, we teamed with Shea Stadium Records for an official showcase celebrating DIY music with performances by So So Glos, Diarrhea Planet, Kitty, Stagnant Pools, Roomrunner, and Duolouge. Check out various photos from both events in the galleries below. [...]

Consequence of Sound' s second annual CoSigns day party will take place during South by Southwest on Wednesday, March 13th at the Parish (214 E. 6th St). We've once again pieced together a diverse lineup packed with only the best acts. Thurston Moore's new band Chelsea Light Moving tops the bill, appearing alongside veteran indie punk band The Thermals , rising Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco , and our two recent CoSigns, Portland pysch rockers Wampire and Dutch mult-instrumentalist [...]
February is a short month, but I still found a bunch of bands that I really liked! And one I really hated (but I won't say who). February 1 - The Toothaches February 2 - The Fair and the Foul - Like their name, I found The Fair and the Foul has two musical sides. One tends toward acoustic-driven folk, with simple melodies. The other is pulsating with interesting rhythms and vocal crescendos. It was the latter that made me listen to The Fair and the Foul more [...]

Today's song is "All The Lights" by Fort Lean . This song is off the band's new EP entitled Change Your Name which was digitally released earlier this week. The album was produced by Patrick Wimberly from Chairlift and mixed by Michael Brauer (Stones, Dylan, MMJ, Wilco, etc) at Electric Lady Studios and is serious. This band has a sound that is instantly likeable. They remind me of Young the Giant meets The Black Keys. This song has a slow, yet big indie rock vibe with some 702s pychedelic thrown in for fun. The bio of indie rock five-piece Fort Lean promises not only that a lean fort exists, but that the weather there is "perfect all the time." This chasing of ideals -the dream of an idyllic and economic fort, for one- sustains the four tracks of their new EP, Change Your Name , every second piece together to make for a maximally pleasant experience. At times, frontman Keenan Mitchell's vocals remind of the Walkmen's jangly rock, while the guitars hit '80s super-pop bravado, and the rhythms push at surfy warmth. The pairing of bubbly [...]
