WU LYF and director Sam Pilling just released the music video for "We Bros", one of the highlights off their 2011 debut Go Tell Fire to the Mountain. The direction actually isn't too far off from Levi's Go Forth commercials. Running across meadows, cherishing one's youth... it's straightforwardly apt. Check out the rest of the

Ex- ¡ Forward, Russia! man Whiskas Nicholls has been busy. Not only has he been working with quite a few bands in the Leeds scene over the last few years, producing EPs and so forth (he worked with Johnny Foreigner last year), he'd spent the guts of the last two years working on an album with his new project, Honour Before Glory . The album has been done for a few weeks, but he's decided to go for the gusto, announcing it and releasing it at the same time. A lot [...]
Few artists can top the sheer moodiness of '80s groups that teetered on the edge of post-punk and newly concocted electronic-pop. New Order and Depeche Mode are generally the most cited in this regard, and they are often the source of inspiration for revivalists of the movement today. These influences helped John Kunkel form the [...]

Words: Saam Das The return of Tom Vek this week reminded me of all those bands I loved back in the mid-noughties. ¡Forward, Russia! were definitely up there. Sadly they disbanded long ago. But with former guitarist Whiskas (otherwise known as Sam Nicholls ) playing his first gig of 2011 tomorrow in London, it seems like an appropriate time to finally post about his melancholic soundscapes. Whiskas has made an [...]
Blood Oranges' ascent to the stereo at Cougar HQ has coincided nicely with the fleeting appearance of the sun across the British isles. The Leeds combo are making all the right moves sharing stages with the likes of Surfer Blood and Two Door Cinema Club. Their boy/girl vocals on this track inevitably bring to mind [...]

Tweet Have you guys gotten mad For Minnaars yet? I sure hope so because these guys are presenting a seemingly convincing argument in favour of a majestic return of British steel. Upon hearing songs from the Leicester quintet's new EP Ideal & Error , it was almost as if I was bearing witness to the birth of the love child of Antidotes- era Foals and the best of the dearly departed Forward Russia. A bit of melody here, some danceable moments there...throw in a bunch of [...]

Gareth O'Malley vs. Whiskas Nicholls During the week, we had a word with the ex- ¡Forward, Russia! man about his new projects. Yes, plural. He's been keeping busy since his old band went on hiatus in 2008, that's for certain. — MFM : You've been recording songs with Johnny Foreigner recently - do you think any of your production work has influenced your solo project? [...]

Seriously, the Johnny Foreigner news is coming fast and furious these days. And while there is as yet no American Tour News Explosion Of Death Forever, there is plenty of interest. Like, for example, the band's completely haunted lo-fi rendering of Sparklehorse 's "The Most Beautiful Widow In Town." Johnny Foreigner 's new label delivers on its promise of a free welcome-to-the-label-let's-giv e-away-a-song song. For those of you not hip to the jive, Sparklehorse mastermind Mark Linkous ended his life earlier this year, a tragic move that leaves a legacy of beautiful music, and Johnny [...]

Music loves the world. And the world loves it back. Some bands have decided to combine the two. Observe.... Around The World In One List ------------- MP3's 1. Boards of Canada - Seven Forty Seven 2. Air France - Collapsing At Your Doorstep 3. Heroes of Switzerland - Soaring 4. Portugal. The Man - Lovers In Love 5. The Strange Death Of Liberal England - A Day [...]

top image // Remember ¡Forward, Russia!? It's hard not to. Each member has moved onto separate projects, of which Sweeping the Nation cover nicely, most importantly notifying us that there's a new project of head-FR member Whiskas, named Honour Before Glory. Their sound is a dramatic contrast to that of his recently defunct band, citing a vast, exploratory sound of delayed guitars, direct, hard-hitting vocals and a huge sense of "going places". There's experience embedded in every second of their songs already, now all they need to do is hope that enough people will [...]
Halfway through the decade, and I think by now everyone was already looking forward to the end of it. Still, at least we had Forward Russia to help us through. This is Twelve, included on Give Me A Wall : [Part of Decade Null 2005 ]

I surprised myself by finding out that I last did this feature in February . I guess therefore that I better explain it for any new readers.... The idea is to feature different songs but with the same title. So far the series has featured:- Part 1 - Careless by Bourgie Bourgie and Cinerma [...]

103. Keane 'Perfect Symmetry' (Island) – Hugely disappointing bar the first three tracks. 102. CSS 'Rat Is Dead' (Sub Pop) – No longer cute, now just annoying. Plus second album is a bum. 101. Operator Please 'Yes Yes Vindictive' (Brille) – Jeez, where did these go? Weak debut nonetheless. 100. Panic At The Disco 'Pretty. Odd.' (Fueled By Ramen) – Pretty. Overrated and not so great. 99. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly 'Searching For The Hows And Whys' (Atlantic) [...]

Glad to see that girl from The Ring is working CL-CL-CLICK HERE for more Forward Russia. Gettin his fix - Tabloid Junkie.

Plushgun - Just Impolite You know, I bet Judith Martin would have some fine advice to give Plushgun , who apparently needs to know how often you can call a girl before you break all social conventions and come across as Just Impolite . But we will forgive him for any etiquette breaches he may have done, considering this wonderful, fuzzy, and humble little song he let adrift into the world. Full of soul and meek charm, you won't regret letting this one eek its way through your soundsystem. [...]
Yes indeed, it is less than a week until the Leeds and Reading Festivals kick off. The New Sound. will be attending the Leeds Festival and we cannot wait! From Friday to Sunday, hundreds of good bands will be playing the festival, including a handful of really awesome ones like Rage Against The Machine , Bloc Party and Queens of the Stone Age , to name a few. Of course, for Leeds attendees, the music starts a day [...]
:: Jesse Lacey of Brand New was really bummed that people watched their set at Lollapalooza and not Explosions In the Sky who were playing at the same time on a different stage. :: Circa Survive have confirmed their departure from Equal Vision records. :: MTV is in talks of re-making the cult classic film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show . Please! No! Leave well enough alone. :: eMusic has posted a list [...]
