We were lucky enough to find ourselves down in Brighton a couple of weeks ago for this years Great Escape Festival . No press pass, no internet connection, no map of Brighton, just a camera and some hastily arranged plans for the odd session or two meant that we weren't as well-organised as we usually are. Fossil Collective put a heartfelt strum on the former UK chart topper from (near) decades back. "The Power of Love" has a timeless tune to it, the song seeps a pensive and poetic lyric which, at the very least, can make almost anybody contemplate the power of love. It's beautiful. Check it out. We've had our ears turned to Fossil Collective for a while now, so we were very pleased to hear that their debut EP is set for release this coming June. Essentially a duo, Jonny Hooker and David Fendick are two multi-instrumentalists who are joined by three other members for the bands live shows. British pair Fossil Collective recently dropped 'Let It Go', the title track from their forthcoming EP. With choral vocals, gentle acoustic guitars and a beautiful soaring chorus, this song has great potential and should see Fossil Collective taken to heart by folk-lovers everywhere. Elias isn't a new name to me, but I'm not exactly sure why. To my knowledge, I've never actually heard an Elias song until now, but the name definitely sets off several bells in the back of my mind. Where or why is anybody's guess, but it's what immediately caught my eye when I opened up my inbox to see that the band hand reached out to me. And I'm glad they did, because the tracks off their recently released Fossils long-player are the kind of big, hooky, straight-up rock anthems that deserve a turn to be shared. [...]

For me Elias ' 2010 album, Lasting Distraction , is one of the best albums to come out of Vancouver's vibrant Indie music scene. Beach Fossils are kind of surf-popists minus the beach. The Brooklyn based band is all bleached-clean guitar and tin-can vocals, but somehow they sound more like Real Estate than any other contemporary acts. "Lessons" is off the B-side of their upcoming 7-inch, and it could be an easy song to overlook simply because of the fact that it fits a bit too snuggly into the current low-fi, indie-rock landscape. But, once you get past just how stock Beach Fossils can sound, what you see is a hint of the darkness and discontent that colors their sound.
