Bondy – Believers It's about time Bondy takes the full on band direction without tip-toeing around it like the last few albums. Oh wait let me re-word that; his last two where spectacular, but this is a sound that he's been hiding for a while and it's [...]
If you're a downer when the holiday season rolls around, then Foxtails Brigade has the perfect Christmas anthem for you, "I'm Not Really in the Christmas Mood This Year." Despite its mood, the song is paired with a really adorable and beautifully shot video (directed and produced by Andrew Junker of French Press Films ). The scenes of holiday "cheer" and Laura Weinbach getting snowed on indoors are just too cute to be melancholy - and watch carefully to spot the Emily Jane White cameo. Foxtails Brigade released [...]

Lets by honest, most holiday music sucks ass. Even when an indie rock band tries to cover an old classic or pull out their own original holiday flavored glittery pop tune. It's a ploy and a marketing tactic that makes me puke tinsel every year. However, there are exceptions. Take for instance our own Foxtails Brigade and their contemporary folk (or Anti-Folk) style have made an original collection of "anti-holiday" music called Time Is Passed . If you aren't familiar with Foxtails piercing flutter and dark poetic nature, you can easily familiarize yourself with [...]

After waking up at a reasonable hour, I made my way into the fray that is SXSW during St. Patrick's Day. In fact it wasn't long before people started stumbling down the streets in WAY too early drunken stupors. It's still a mystery to me why grown adults can't pace themselves even on a day that requires you to drink pretty much all day long. Get it together people! In-Flight Safety Anyway, one of the best things about [...]

Crafted with care and covered in Victorian influence, Foxtails Brigade has just returned to San Francisco from this year's SXSW after wowing the lucky Austin crowds. Fronted by guitarist/lyricist Laura Weinbach, her charm is not nearly as impenetrable as her cosmic poetry or, for that matter, the band's baroque-like music. The young Californian guitarist's latest album is an eleven-song piece that includes lush string arrangements by fellow band-member Anton Pazner (Judgement Day, The Devontionals) that drift nicely with Laura's combination of undeniable eloquence & flawless harmony. The result is an album that sounds unlike [...]
Totally forgot to post this neat video of Foxtails Brigade I saw a while back from On The Record TV . OTR is a group of filmakers + the nice folks at Origami Vinyl making some sweet little videos. One of my favorites is above. Anton Patzner's strings keep it relaxing while Laura Weinbach's voice keeps my attention well. Love'em. The Hours [MP3]

Tweet Foxtails Brigade are set to make their official debut - although the band has been playing around the Bay for awhile now, linking their name to a certain jaunty, acoustic neo-folk style. The Bread and the Bait is scheduled for release on April 12th, 2011, via Antenna Farm Records . The album features frontwoman Laura Weinbach, and was recorded by Scott McDowell, Anton Patzner, Dave Reep and Drew Zagesec. Foxtails Brigade - [...]

Oakland/Berkeley trio Hetch Hetchy (Yosemite, anyone?) sounds a bit like their listed influences, but not as much as I would have thought considering they list a large variety of droning instrumental bands. The music they perform on the October 2010 release Glen Worple are gravitating toward a more Shearwater / brit-chamber-pop than a sample heavy instrumental drone group. The music is still layered and quite dense and would go together well with an obscure slideshow of surreal images this side of Dali. While the band is shy to perform live, you can still download their entire [...]

I've been incredibly busy the past couple of weeks (primarily moving, among other things) and I'm just now finally getting settled in. I don't think I've had this kind of incessant time away from blogging since I started this thing, but hopefully things will get back to normal around here. What better way to kick things off than with The Daily Graboid, as this will be another chunk of the last month or so of releases that I've missed. Starting next week I will probably get back to a weekly posting of this, so I'm sure [...]
