EDJ interview // Sam Binga Sam Simpson, or under his latest guise - Sam Binga, is the kind of guy you want to be involved in the music scene. No ulterior motives, no interest in following trends, just a genuine love of and primitive need to contribute to electronic music of many kinds. Having variously made breaks, techno and dubstep under his Baobinga and Skinnz aliases, he now finds himself as one of the leading exponents of the juke sound which finds itself building up a head of steam at the [...]
While the Pryda camp has unquestionably aided Jeremy Olander in his rise to progressive house prominence, his next output marks his debut on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat label. While it will be hard to top the enchanting allure of "Let Me Feel," "Fractures" is no tune to sleep on. With its minimally-driven structure and emphatic groove, Olander's latest takes on a delectable tech house flavor, one that goes down smooth and satisfying. The track will be released May 6th on Sudbeats , the South American label's first ever compilation. You [...]

Fracture - 'Better Than Tomorrow' / 'Gangbusters' (METHXX02) Metalheadz have been a bit quiet of late but the last few weeks have seen a small spate of activity with Rufige Kru's Vanilla VIP doing the rounds for free download and a 12” from newly signed album artists Ulterior Motive. All good stuff but this week EDJ favourite, Fracture lends his Midas touch to the label for his debut 12” on the ‘XX’ series of releases that started with Commix’s ‘Double Double’ a couple of years ago. Not sure what the ‘XX’ [...]
I caught up with Fracture and chatted about the new 12 for Headz, 'Better Than Tomorrow/Gangbusters'. DB: 'Better Than Tomorrow' is an exercise in restraint, like standing in... [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more! ]]

There seems to have been for a little while now, a small group of producers developing on the far left of the dnb spectrum. They are not wholly bred from dnb per se but seem to be pushing the very limits of what can be bracketed into its sphere through a number of well-established and respected channels. That to me is a very exciting prospect. Firstly it means their music is easily accessible to those who are already fans of ‘dnb’. Consequently it broadens the horizons of those who might not take the time to look/listen to the smaller niche [...]

Browsing through my (soon to be gone) Google Reader I came across this beautifully atmospheric track by Australian producer Mark Zito aka Fractures . With the fragility in his voice laid bare you're taken forward on a bed of electronic percussion through a hauntingly climatic and dark musical landscape. Stream it above, It's some good stuff! f: www.facebook.com/fracturesmusi c

Besides for shrimp on the barbie and hot surfer men, Australia tends to be known for its near-perfect synth-pop (see Cut Copy and The Presets for starters) and hard rock legends ( AC/DC and Midnight Oil ring a bell?). But amongst all the Van She s and INXS s lies Fractures : the sixth-month old solo project of Melbourne's Mark Zito. For this new project, Zito creates atmospheric instrumental soundscapes somewhere between those of The xx [...]

There's a video too. Noisey . Presented by electronic net lable, Aural Sects, of whom we can't speak highly enough. Because I know most projects out of the Aural Sects camp tend to be proper, I copped immediately. Vice had the information. Apparently Unkwon is Anders Dixon, already a renowned DJ and producer under the name DixOne. Hailing from Denmark, Unkwon has already been around, but this time is different. He's sort of taking a break from partying, a step away from the club scene for a new beginning. It makes sense that's why he's doing it. Head to [...]
I just got finished listening to @@ ’s “Harlem Shake” remix , and I’ve gotta hand it to that kid—he knows how to take what everybody’s thinking and make a hilarious mockery of it. It's always great to see the good-hearted trolls come through the woodwork (See: Dillon Francis ). It's jokes like these that make hunting for music a pleasure. When I come across a track like @@'s remix, I can't help but stop what I'm doing and appreciate it like a fine wine...if that wine was filled with air horns and ridiculous loops. [...]

So proud of Melbournian talent right now ! Have a listen to the FRACTURES ' hauntingly beautiful debut mp3 TWISTED .

Digital and Spirit - 'Phantom Force' (Fracture's Astrophonica edit) / 'Backlash' (Digital and Spirit's rework) (PHUD01) Remixing classic drum and bass tunes. Many try it, but do they ever really properly capture the essence of the original or just plainly ‘do it justice’? Is that even important? I can’t really think of that many that really stand out though. I’m sure most of you reading this will now be thinking of countless examples where I can easily be proved wrong and yes music is a subjective thing, for most us, steeped in nostalgia [...]

Fracture feat Dawn Day Night - Get Busy (DLX RMX)Free download! Nice little re-edit of Fracture and Dawn Day Night's 'Get Busy' that dropped on Exit last year. The original was one of the most outstanding contributions to the dnb sphere in 2012 and this remix does little to undermine that. Soundcloud has obviously maxed out its download limit already so try here for an alernate (perfectly legitimate) link.

Riya interview and spotlight on Tuned In 2 // (CIAUKLP001) A CIA Recordings release is always an exciting thing. One, they’re not as regular as they once were with the equally good but historically deeper sister label Deep Kut taking most of the release schedule these days. Two, you’re never quite sure exactly what they have up their sleeve. The label can release the smoothest liquid number one minute and a ripping rib trembler the next. Hold on to your hats then, as released last week was a 14 [...]
