Francis Farewell Starlite is a bit of a renaissance man. He has production credits on Drake's "Karoake,"is a fantastic singer/songwriter with three albums under his belt (including the incredible It'll Be Better ), scored the film Robot & Frank, and last, but not least, is a fantastic dancer with skills reminiscent of the late James Brown and Michael Jackson. So Francis Farewell Starlite and his amazing band drops their first song in about two years. Consider me a happy fan. "ETC" proves that Francis and the Lights haven't lost a single step in their absence. Minimal synths, playful keys, and drum kit are what gives the band their signature style. It's a simple setup that creates a sound that's so unique. Oh, and you can't forget about Francis' grand, airy voice that's equally intimate. The level of anticipation for anything new from Francis Starlight is starting to become frustrating. Francis And The Lights provided the score for the indie flick Robot & Frank and included a tune for the closing credits that will be featured on their hopefully soon to be announced album. Last I heard from Francis, he was overseas working on new music, but the wait continues. Come back to Philly soon and blow more minds. Anyone know where to find a download of this track? Words: Saam Das One of my favourite films of 2013 will undoubtedly be 'Robot & Frank' , a warm-hearted romantic comedy-drama that beautifully explores notions of humanity, friendship and old age. It's out now in UK cinemas and, although this is an overused term, is quite frankly a must-see. It's well worth sticking around for the end credits too, mainly because of the excellent 'Fell On Your Head' by Francis And The Lights , which plays the film out. Our buddy Anthony Valadez tipped us to this nice lights-pulled-back version of Kanye's "Can't Tell Me Nothing" by NYC artist Francis and the Lights during his (must listen) Monday night KCRW show this week. The track's more collected, pensive performance is an interesting counterpoint to Ye's told-ya-so braggadocio on the original. We already posted the full White Room show of Francis And The Lights a couple weeks back, but for those of you who didn't have time to watch the 25 minute performance, do yourself a favor and check out the footage of a new track, "If They Don't Come Tomorrow". Francis And The Lights performed a couple of their White Room show's in Troy, NY on October 28th and 29th, followed by a screening at a movie theater in NYC on the 30th. These shows require plenty of preparation by frontman Francis Starlite, including sometimes building the stage platform himself. Francis has posted the 25 minute concert film on his YouTube page. Francis Farewell Starlite has been making beats as Francis and the Lights since 2008. He recently toured with Drake, MGMT, and La Roux, which you might not guess based on the style of his music. According to this EW interview , the Lights arent his bandmates, but could instead mean the lights onstage or pixels on a computer or iPod screen. Hes so often called enigmatic that it might eventually wear itself a little thin, but for now, his funky and soulful music is enough to almost entirely satisfy my craving for the genre.
