Francis Lai - Garden Party Cool track off the ost of a 1978 comedy film called "Les Ringards", starring Mirelle Darc. There is a film called Torture Garden as well but that has unfortunately nothing to do with the infamous cult book seen above. Clever stunt: When Les Chansons de Bilitis came out in 1894, Pierre Louys claimed to be the translator of those erotic verses written by an unknown ancient Greek poetess, and caused a literary sensation. Lesbianism was hot then, but eighty years later it became even hotter, when soft-focus lensman David Hamilton used the classic poetry touch as a camouflage to display loads of nubile skin in his „adaptation" of the Bilitis poems that Louys had written himself, of course. Though the flick stars Patty D'Arbanville (see right) and other fragile b-cup maidens, the real star of [...]

The photo on the right shows a happy man – Francis Lai, composer of the immortal bande original du film for Un homme et une femme, as well Oscar winner for his Love Story soundtrack. Five years later, at the height of the Disco days, Lai put the milk jug away for a few hours and took his coffee black – for the high-class 1976 Jean-Paul Belmondo feature Le corps de mon ennemi , doing his own, equally foxy Superfly groove, gallic style. A year later, Serge also went funky with his soundtrack for Just Jaeckin's softcore callgirl skin [...]

You wake up one Thursday humming that familiair pabadabada pabadabada, and a few hours later you're uploading nine different versions of the well-known theme to Claude Lelouch's masterful Un Homme & Une Femme (1966, two Oscars, Golden Palm ). The original song, composed by Francis Lai and Pierre Barouh, and sung by Barouh (who also appears in the movie) and Nicole Croisille, is a lounge-classic. There are probably hundreds of version by Fausto Papetti, Paul Mauriat and other James Last-a-likes. What else can you do with a song like this? You can make a smokey barroom version [...]
To start things off I made a sampler of French film composer, Francis Lai. Super catchy melodies that might be super cheesy("muzak") if you are old enough to recognize them(I'm not). I think they are all awesome tracks. Part A 01 : Francis Lai // Un Homme et Une Femme (orch.) (Un Homme et Une Femme) 02 : Francis Lai et Pierre Barouh // Peggy (13 Jours En France) 03 [...]
The bigshots behind Japanese label Rambling Records had a great idea: what if the lovely Marina Celeste , who ressembled a French actress from the sixties, made an album of songs that were originally sung by Anna Karina? Marc Collin, one of the masterminds behind Nouvelle Vague , had an even better idea: why not make an album with songs from different nouvelle vague -films? Inna bossa nova stylee? Marina , a self-declared film-buff loved it, the record execs too, and this March Cinema Enchantée saw the light. Songs written by Gainsbourg, [...]
