Chuck has done a superb job at keeping me at bay all these years by not caving to my constant pressuring to join the ranks of TheChuckness.com scribes. Instead, he treated me like Sloth from the 802s classic The Goonies; keeping me locked in a metaphorical basement trading Baby Ruth's ... Read More

Vancouver/Toronto based production duo WMNSTUDIES are on a mission to bring back the 902s r&b with their newest set of releases, sampling iconic tracks from both Tamia and INOJ. Most recently they've transformed the classic jam So Into You into a tropical tinged, deep house/future garage fusion, which goes over perfectly. Claiming influence from some of our top producers like the French Express crew, The Magician, and TEED, we can't hardly say their sound didn't immediately appeal to us. A shame this didn't make it to cut for channel ORANGE . Apparently, he's made some big progress in his second LP (10-11 tracks so far), which will be a concept album. Download (via Ear Milk)
Congrats are in order for Frank Ocean, y'all. The kid can add another trophy (well, a plaque in this case) to his wall, as his Channel Orange single " Thinkin' Bout You " has officially gone platinum. Just like with album sales, that means he's pushed a total of 1 million units of the track since it officially dropped last year. My only thing is, where can you purchase this track as a single? Unless I'm completely losing it, you can't buy it on iTunes as a "single", though you can clearly purchase the track by itself. Yeah, [...]

Frank Ocean is reportedly releasing his Earl Sweatshirt assisted tune "Super Rich Kids" as his next single and Texas-born producer/DJ Bird Peterson decided to send out a remix of it. Now this track is already pretty much perfect the way it is and I wasn't sure what I would expect when listening to this, but I was surprised in a good way. The producer dubbed this his Way Too Sexy Remix where he picks up the pace of the tune and gives it more energy. Along with the remix he wrote, "Draw a [...]
Quite often brevitiy is in the soul of wit. The three lads from PDR have always been fans of simplicity and the minimalistic approach to grooving and guitar-driven new wave pop. That's probably one reason, why they renamed themselves from PUNK'D ROYAL to the shorter form. But it might also mark a new start for The post NBHAP Exclusive: Guestmix #13 - PDR appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

By Richard Wink March 1, 2013 Winning Best International Male at the Brit Awards introduces Frank Ocean to a wider UK audience. Yet for those late to the party ‘Super Rich Kids’ could be viewed as one of those tail end singles from a brilliant album that doesn't stand strong on its own (Can anyone remember ‘Until The End of Time’ from FutureSex/LoveSounds or ‘Broken-Hearted Girl’ from I am … Sasha Fierce ? ) . Ocean, proving his talent as a songwriter, and a jaded voice for this frustrated introspective generation [...]

What a sexy remix! in the words of Bird Peterson, "Draw a bath, light a candle, and ratchet in the tub." Download and stream the song below:

Fresh off taking home his first Golden gramophone for debut full-length Channel Orange, R&B innovator Frank Ocean has unveiled the latest single selection off the universally-acclaimed set. A soulfully cynical examination of upper-class ennui, Super Rich Kids boasts a catchy, piano-driven beat by Ocean’s constant collaborator, Malay, and a chorus interpolated from Mary J. Blige classic Real Love. Joining his Odd Future colleague on the guest tip, Earl Sweatshirt lends his wry, polysyllabically-rhymed flows to verse two. This record can be found, along with previous singles Pyramids, Sweet Life, Thinkin’ Bout You and Lost, on Frank Ocean’s freshman LP, out [...]

This what fantastic sounds like. Sounding vaguely reminiscent of something that would've been featured on nostalgia, ULTRA , Mr. Ocean has decided to drop this new or otherwise unreleased gem. Listen and get happy. Follow @OceanPdestrians .
One way to grab the attention of listeners after almost winning a reality singing competition: perform a lovely cover of Frank Ocean 's "Thinkin Bout You," and look like you're just having fun and playing around in the process. That's what Fifth Harmony has done, posting a live, in-studio cover of Ocean's hit. The girl group finished third on The X Factor season two, and you can see why LA Reid was quick to sign them to Epic Records right after. Watch the cover up top, and check out [...]

For those of you have been frustrated by Janelle Monae's delay in releasing the sequel to The ArchAndroid , the good news from Frank Ocean's corner is that he's 10 or 11 songs into his next album . "Eyes Like Sky" is the latest leak from that effort. It doesn't have the same sense of immersive narrative that Channel Orange did, but the album isn't finished yet. My bet is it will be every bit as innovative and captivating as the previous one. Frank Ocean - Eyes Like Sky by [...]
With rumors of Frank Ocean's sophomore album on the way, a previously unreleased track surfaced over the weekend, reportedly a leftover from the recording sessions of 20122s Channel Orange. Stream "Eyes Like Sky" below. Website // Facebook Page
There's something of a drastic lack of fun, and with it frivolity innately located within contemporary hip hop which, when you gaze back retrospectively over the genre's mischievous previous, is ever so slightly disheartening. Though reinserting some of that same impishness of yore is Vancouver's Blac Hollywood , aka Cephas Munga, whose freebie Kids With Crowns EP pairs up a more elate and electronica-flecked take on the so-called chillwave of Toro Y Moi et al. with that same playfulness to have propelled Edinburgh's Young Fathers to a starker prominence in recent times. All nifty scratches [...]

After hearing that James Blake's forthcoming overgrown album would sport features from Brian Eno and RZA, we couldn't help but imagine what other artists would have great chemistry with the UK singer and producer. With something to offer for just about every fan of music, James Blake's sound is rooted in everything from soul and R&B to dub-step and hip-hop. Which makes him such a stellar candidate for this installment of Armchair A&R . On the list you are going to see a number of notable names as well as rising stars, including everyone from Janet Jackson [...]

That Eyes Like Sky didn't quite make the grade for broadcasting on Frank Ocean's sensational channel ORANGE LP of yesteryear is testament to the strength of the album as a cohesive whole, given that this one so too is sublimity itself. Though despite its furthering of Frank's infatuation with oceanic lyrics and insinuations of ever vivid colours (the subliminal messaging this time centres around "a blind boy" who encounters both "a green girl" and "a blue man", before going on to describe "yellow so perfectly") it would have perhaps been ever so slightly extraneous to [...]

French electro producer Breakbot -real name Thibaut Berland- has a resume most artists can only dream of. Affiliated with Ed Banger Records, Breakbot first made a name for himself back in 2006, when he remixed Justice's "Let There Be Light". Six years laters, Breakbot has a debut album, 20122s "By Your Side", and a slew of celebrity fans -including Chromeo, Para One, and Matthew Dear.- Next month, Breakbot will be hitting up Fortune Sound Club for his first Vancouver appearance since 2012. The night will also feature performances by Matty [...]

In the past couple of years, R&B has found itself developing a strange relationship between its cold, technological, 80s self and its soulful Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye past. That combination has led to albums from the likes of Frank Ocean and The Weeknd receiving critical and commercial success, bringing R&B back from its mid-20002s malaise and creating a path for its future. In the meantime, Arthur Ashin's Autre Ne Veut [...]
