by Bill Pearis Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson in 'Frank' There aren't a lot of actors out there where I'll go to see a film just because they're in it but Michael Fassbender is one of them. From more commercial projects like X-Men: First Class and Prometheus to his work with director Steve McQueen ( Hunger, Shame ), he always gives interesting performances, even in films that aren't very good ( Jonah Hex ). Fassbender [...]

He's a busy actor who's known for taking on a variety of roles - but even this one seems a bit left of centre as news reaches Slacker Shack that Michael Fassbender is set to take on the role of Chris Sievey (the man also known as Frank Sidebottom ) in a new film. New comedy drama, Frank will be produced by Film4 , and [...]

I may have mentioned in passing, but usually keep quiet because I like to keep some neutrality on F&M. But today I am breaking that rule and celebrating Manchester City's FA Cup win. I am a long, long suffering City fan. I've been there at Maine Road, I've stood in the Kippax. I was also there away at places such as Colchester, Wycombe and Chesterfield. Then in the summer of 1999 they began their journey back... I [...]

We take a moment out to remember a couple of characters close to Football and Music, who we lost this year... - Starting with somebody you don't know, but he was one of the stalwarts on the F&M Prediction League . When I joined Twitter the 2nd person I followed was Denizo , aka Dennis Kelly . When the season (prediction and Premier League) was over, we were all looking forward [...]
It's nice that Selfridges liked the idea of Frank Sidebottom enough to do a tribute window . Less impressive that they didn't ask permission nor, indeed, make a donation to the late great Fantastic one's estate. -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch
Following his passing last month and the news that his family were facing the prospect of a pauper's funeral, a campaign has been launched to get Frank Sidebottom to number one in the UK with the songs 'Guess Who's Been On Match Of The Day' and 'The Robbins Aren't Bobbins'. Find out more here . Related Frank Sidebottom RIP

Filed under: News , UK After the success of last Christmas' campaign to get Rage Against the Machine to the top of the charts, a new Facebook group is looking to send Frank Sidebottom to the No.1 spot to honour the paper-mache-head-wearing character's late creator Chris Sievey who passed away on June 21. As reported in the NME , organisers behind the campaign have released a double A-side of Sidebottom's 'Guess Who's Been on Match of the Day' and 'The Robbins Aren't Bobbins' [...]
a legend in papier mache – and he also issued a music business spectrum game as a b-side. Its called the Biz, is annoyingly addictive, and you can find it to play in the big man's honour at www.zxspectrum.net :-)
No sooner had the news about Chris Sievey's finances been made public, than people started rallying round . There's now enough money for a proper, fitting send-off, and hopefully some left over to help out his family.
More heartbreaking news from Manchester, as Frank Sidebottom's children say they haven't got the money to bury their father properly. The Manchester Evening News reports : Chris leaves sons Stirling, 31, and Harry, 18, and daughter Asher, 30. Stirling said the family have been in discussion with hospital bereavement officers and a funeral director. He said: “My father has not left any money behind and we are struggling to try and sort his funeral out. He spent money as it came in and was always a man for the moment. He never planned ahead. We [...]

Well I don't know what to write... I feel that I have to write something because Frank is another one of those Manchester icons who have gone too soon. You see I am Manchester. I am from Manchester and I will forever be Manchester even if I'm 3000 miles away. As I get older I see these people who shaped all passing away... Ian Curtis, Martin Hannett, Rob Gretton, Tony Wilson, and now.. Frank Sidebottom. Oh I know that Uncle Frank didn't exactly cause any ripples in the musical world, but like the [...]
Heartbreaking news this evening, I'm afraid, as Chris Sievey, of the Freshies and Frank Sidebottom fame , has died. The Freshies's big moment came with the hit I'm In Love With The Girl On The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk, re-recorded with 'Virgin' replaced by 'Certain' to avoid BBC restrictions on advertising. But it was the creation of a fan from Timperley, Frank Sidebottom, and an entire fantasy world centred on his large, paper-maiche head that would be the basis of a twenty-five year career. Frank Sidebottom turned up all over the place - guest [...]
Chris Sievey, aka Frank Sidebottom, has died of a heart attack at his home in Hale, having only been diagnosed with cancer last month. Here's the great man in action... Random Posts

You may have guessed from the last couple of posts I am a big Sidebottom fan. Frank is like @stephenfry , in that he's a Manchester treasure at least... Mr Sidebottom used to have his own telly show on the late lamented Channel M , but can still be seen on Timperley TV . Plus he will return to broadcasting from April 11th with another run of Radio Timperley via Manchester Radio Online . As you can tell by now [...]

Now here's something you didn't know about Frank Sidebottom: The picture above of him wearing that shirt - it isn't a replica of the team you are thinking about. Have a closer look at that badge . It is of a football club which Frank himself founded. » Timperley Big Shorts F.C. Mr Sidebottom is famously known as being from Manchester but is actually from Timperley , which is a real place within Altrincham. If you want to generalise, yes it is [...]

This is the first post in the Frank Sidebottom week. Since it's Tuesday already I'd better get on with it... There might be one or two of you out there who don't know who Francis (he hates it when his mum calls him that) nomiddlename Sidebottom is, so a quick bio: He first came to everybody's notice as a dedicated and loyal fan of the band The Freshies (who it is rumoured that the lead singer Chris Sievey is one of the same, but it's not true I tell ya !) [...]
Even Iggy admitted that his Swiftcover adverts were awful - "embarrassing" was his actual word, I think - but they're still happy to throw cash at him, so he's making new adverts which appear to rip off Frank Sidebottom quite badly: Swiftcover.com's marketing director Tina Shortle said he was still keen to work with the company on their 2010 campaign. "Iggy loved the fact that last year's campaign stirred up a lot of emotion, so this year we've played on the controversy with even more irreverent humour," she said. "The introduction of 'Little [...]
If there's one thing that Alan Bennett really hates, it's being nice all the time. The world sees him as some sort of wry and cosy ambassador for teacakes and Northern decrepitude. It wants to be reassured by his presence. So very easily understood. He's man who writes about death and misery and mankind's inability to face these things, and yet we get the warm fuzzy Hovis nostalgia every time we hear his name. Can't blame him for wanting to indulge in some shockingly bad behaviour, really. Frank Sidebottom never had that problem, [...]

Breaking the rules today with the following. They are not by or about a football team or by or about any football players. What they are about is some seasonal tunes done by a couple of musical acts who are well know for their footie supporting. With the first one literally putting his money (or as you will see - his tongue) where his mouth is: A few years ago Mr B. Bloodvessel was involved with his local team, even going as [...]

Though they've been a band for 23 years, some things about The Wedding Present remain comfortingly constant: the subject matter of their songs (love, heartbreak, betrayal, jealously), founder David Gedge 's ability to play the guitar like his hand's on fire, and the band's strict policy of no requests, no encores. But most importantly, their ability to consistently deliver the goods, year after year, despite enough line-up changes to rival The Fall. Still, the Southpaw show on Thursday, which I'm pretty sure their first-ever in Brooklyn, was much better than their [...]
