Frankie and the Outs have released the video for the track 'Lullabye for Roads and Miles' off their self-titled debut which is out now. The video was directed by Army of Kids, it seems like it would be released for something that would fit better in the "chillwave" genre...

Having released their eponymous debut album back in September on Memphis Industries, the Brooklyn based Frankie Rose & The Outs have announced their first string of dates in the UK. Drenched in sixties girl group aesthetics and garage pop sensibilities the four-piece are led by former Vivian Girls/Crystal Stilts/Dum Dum Girls singer Rose and are due to release their new single ‘Girlfriend Island’ on December 13. December 10 – St Phils Church, Manchester 11 – Harley, Sheffield 12 – Nice N Sleazy, Glasgow 13 – Brudenell Social [...]

I can't believe a whole year has already passed since last year's edition. This time last year E and I were still living in Athens, and we flew here (Barcelona) to attend Primavera Club 2009. That was our very first Primavera ( Club or Sound ), and now here we are, living in the city, going to what is already our third (Primavera Sound 2010 was the second)! Good times indeed. I know the festival appears to have a pretty low profile (internationally at least), and even many visitors to PS Sound don't even [...]
Frankie Rose and the Outs - Candy “Frankie Rose is a Brooklyn bartender best known for her drum/vocal/guitar work with fuzzed-out retro acts like Crystal Stilts , Vivian Girls , and Dum Dum Girls . As she bounced from one project to the next (in some cases before she was even considered a proper member), the distinctive threads that joined these bands-- garage-rock ethos, dour jangle pop, 60s girl-group harmonies, questionable [...]

Steve Cohen It didn't take a lot of digging to find this San Francisco Chronicle interview circa 2006 wherein Gary Louris definitively closed the book on Minneapolis alt.country heroes The Jayhawks , the band he'd fronted for over 20 years, the first decade with Mark Olson and after his departure, on his own. Of course, by the time he declared The Jayhawks done, he and Olson were again performing together not as The Jayhawks but as those guys from The Jayhawks. So even though the band's principal [...]

We have a different Frankie ( Frankie & The Heartstrings ) to talk about today. Frankie Rose the former member of Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts & Dum Dum Girls , (that's a decent CV in terms of hot lo-fi girl bands, Crystal Stilts aren't too bad neither) has put down the drum sticks, hit the guitar and vocals and duly formed Frankie Rose & The Outs. No it's not exactly breaking news by any means but to a UK crowd it quite possibly is. Their debut LP was released on the 21st of [...]
So, I think it's fair to say that I have been pretty lax when it has come to the monthly roundups but seeing that we had such a bumper month of over 40 postings, I thought it would be as well to include a new roundup of what I have been chattering about for you.... Some of the highlights from the blog this month include tracks from, Duck Sauce, Deerhunter, The Vaccines, Frankie Rose & The Outs and The Corin Tucker Band ... [...]

//photo by jessica amaya After doing time in bands like the Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls, Frankie Rose finally released her debut album on Slumberland last month. Packed full of distortion, harmonies and picky-staccato guitar, Little Brown Haired Girls is exactly the sort of record that you would expect from the person who wrote the Vivian Girls hit 'Where Do you Run To'. When they set off on tour recently, they set up a Kickstarter page to help get a van and the prizes were pretty awesome. [...]

After jobbing around in the shadows of many a hipster Brooklyn band, Frankie Rose has finally taken centre stage and found the limelight. Frankie Rose and The Outs release their self-titled debut album through Memphis Industries, but does the quality of the record live up to the quality of the back story? Being a member of three hipster Brooklyn bands was seemingly just not enough for former Crystal Stilt, Vivian and Dum Dum Girl, Frankie Rose. Rather than just lurking in the shadows keeping time, Rose decided to pick up her guitar and take the [...]

the ex vivian girl/crystal stilt/dum dum girl, frankie rose, has released her debut lp with her own band 'the outs' on the seemingly ubiquitous slumberland records. it came out on 9/21 and is available here . two tracks from the record (and a video) are available below. the lp continues along the lines reminiscent of girl pop, but swaps the lo-fi production of the vivian girls and dum dum girls for some crystal clear sounds that sound oh so nice. candy [...]
It's hard to believe we're already on Vol. XII of the Almost Missed mix series. For those of you not familiar with this particular series, it includes singles we really like from recent released albums that for one reason or another we didn't feature when they were originally released. This is our way of catching [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

The self-titled debut by Frankie Rose and the Outs is definitely a work in progress, but it's a worthwhile one that'll keep you interested now and in the future. Frankie Rose has played in Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls, and Crystal Stilts, so it's easy to get a mental picture of what the self-titled debut album by her band the Outs is like. While there are definitely a few hints of the girl-group-meets-riot-grrrl approach you'd expect based on her lineage, Rose has more of a soft spot for dream-pop experimentation than anything else -- indeed, the tried-and-true primary sources [...]
