Nick from the band's formed a production duo - called The Nice Nice Boys....

The word “interesting,” ironically, may be the least interesting adjective in the English language. It pretends to make an opinion without really saying anything about the subject. To say something is interesting is to say that it captured your attention and held it for a certain period of time, long enough for you to think with at least a sliver of consideration and, hopefully, to form an opinion, but apparently not a very strong one. Interesting is lukewarm and does not communicate anything terribly precise. In some cases, however, it can be the best way to describe something, [...]
San Francisco's annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is always tasked with the enormous duty of being the "other" huge festival of California, and the designation is both a blessing and a curse. On the low end, it has to try and come up with acts that Coachella somehow didn't have the foresight to [...]
Vic returns with his recommendation for the Scottish international gig of the month and it's a cracker. Next Friday night Admiral Fallow will support Franz Ferdinand at the Winterthurer Musikfestwochen in Switzerland. Other Scottish bands on tour outside the UK right now include Django Django, Mogwai and Rod Stewart. Admiral Fallow at Winterthurer Musikfestwochen by [...]

It has been way too long since the lads from Glasgow were here to drive us into a frenzy. Drummer Paul Thomson had made a stop to play with Yummy Fur at The Echo in 2010, which was a stellar gig. Luckily, I was able to catch FF at Outside Lands over the weekend, but it was just a tease of what was to come at The Glasshouse. The combined talents of Alex Kapranos (vox, guitar), Nick McCarthy (rhythm guitar, keys, vox), Bob Hardy (bass guitar) and Thomson (percussion, backing vox) are so solid. The sound [...]

photos by Amoreena Lucero Franz Ferdinand / Jack White / Bloc Party, Outside Lands 8/12/2012 Outside Lands might be the only major festival where 93 percent of the musical acts on the bill could walk the grounds without getting recognized. The headliners certainly had their fans - particularly the Vermont jam band Phish, which played nearly 3 1/2 hours of droopy guitar licks to twirling dancers on Friday. But the rest [...]
Despite dreary, chilly weather from heavy fog and steady winds during the three-day 5th Annual Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco this past weekend, the city's biggest summer music event sold out thanks to a lineup packed with legends of rock and pop, break-out artists of the past few years, and many other bands in [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
In all my years as a festie, I've never been to a festival where gloves seemed like a perfectly sound idea. But San Francisco defies the logic of California (as comedian Marcus Monroe put it, "It's summer, so tell your fucking city that"), with cool days and downright cold evenings. Still, the City by the Bay plays one hell of a host. Coming from Boston, the honest politeness of the people here was shockingly apparent from the moment I stepped onto the BART. With sunny skies above, it was a warm welcome to the weekend ahead. Of course, [...]

Perfect way to end a musical weekend in the woods. Jack White and Tom Morello even did a little impromptu in Choco Lands. Stereogum Over the weekend, thousands of fans flocked to this year's Outside Lands at Golden Gate Park. Overcast and chilly weather was offset by the fire from the Metallica pyrotechnics and warm vibes from festival attendees. Neil Young & Crazy Horse turned up their guitars to close out Friday, Metallica blew everyone away with their hellfire on Saturday, and Stevie Wonder dazzled with his barrage of hits to on Sunday. Some of the other highlights included Jack White's impromptu set in the midst of the trees, [...]

As one of the last music festivals to wrap up summer 2012, San Francisco's Outside Lands did a pretty good job. Held at Golden Gate Park, this past weekend saw the likes of Stevie Wonder, Neil Young & The Crazy Horse, Sigur Ros, Alabama Shakes, and many more. Check out the Outside Lands weekend in photos below.

Lollapalooza: the great granddaddy of music festivals. Or would that be Woodstock? Or Monterrey? Or Newport? Maybe Lolla is just the weird uncle of music fests. Who’s not even that weird anymore. Lolla is your uncle whose basement used to smell funny, but now he’s just a regular old guy who wears golf shirts. Or something. I went to the first two Lollas back in its original incarnation as a touring freak show, and I’ve been to all of them since it settled down in Chicago as a dest-fest in 2005. So I’m a seasoned expert [...]
