So as I mentioned earlier, I cannot say enough good things about Titus Andronicus . So I will take this post to say as much good stuff about them and the rest of the current New Jersey music scene, sorry Bon Jovi fan(s) , as reasonably tolerable. To demonstrate my true admiration for the music of my home state, I created this compilation to serve as an introduction to the great music coming out of New Jersey (mostly Bergen County, the county in which I reside). We have an ongoing series of mixtapes featuring music from Canada called [...]

Underwater People s are fantastic label. I have their last compilation which just came in the mail this weekend along with the Real Estate Live on the Radio LP. Once again they have made a new compilation which you can get for free (for a limited time...and I can't imagine it will be that much longer) at the awesome Chocolate Bobka . Don't sleep on this one! Thanks Underwater Peoples...You are fantastic. PS. I am still on the fence about the buying the Alex Bleeker LP, if you have any great suggestions email me!

It's been a while since I've lost sleep in anticipation of Christmas Day goodies. As a kid, thoughts of the Transformers Dinobots and Legos were usually the culprit. This year: The Underwater Peoples Winter Review. Seriously, I ran to the computer and downloaded this before I even took a glimpse at any wrapped boxes. After some quality headphone time, we would like to share this awesome compilation over airwaves (um, internet airwaves) from cover to cover. Since our episodes are 16 tracks long (the comp being only 15), we thought it fitting to lead off with MJ's "Human [...]

After all of those lonely solo shows, the great Ryan (and his silky baritone voice) is finally back in action. This weeks playlist was pruned and handpicked by the man himself, so you know it's good. Don't forget to come out to the Granada Theater on the 10th for Jay Reatard, Fergus & Geronimo, and Surfer Blood. 1) Memory Tapes - Plain Material 2) Naomi Punk - The Sun 3) Jay Reatard - Fluorescent Grey 4) Fergus & Geronimo - Blind [...]
Monday: Shark?, Dinosaur Feathers, Coyote Eyes, + I'm Turning Into @ Cameo Gallery 7pm $tba [ info ] For the past couple weeks Dinosaur Feathers have reigned over Cameo Gallery's Monday nights. The band have loaded up their residency with fantastic support acts and tonight's may just be the strongest consisting of three former "Band of the Week". It helps that they not only provide awesome music but that there is also free Miller High Life, PBR, and well drinks all night long. So come on out, get drunk, and regret it at your [...]

NJ's Frat Dad are Sam Franklin (a/k/a FLUFFY LUMBERS) and James Benson. Their new 7 Inch is out now on the Underwater Peoples independent record label. The band loves the reverb and the distortion. Buried under said reverb and distortion you may just find a pop song. Listen... Downloadable: Greg The Nerd (mp3) Buy the vinyl over at Underwater Peoples... here . Underwater Peoples are here . BONUS: Freak In Nature (mp3)

According to Child Bite at Death By Audio this weekend, " Total Slacker are as cute as buttons," blending together not only the most bud-heavy of beach-pop jams but the badass appeal of just being in a band and having the best time with each other. Whether they're tearing apart the stage at Shea Stadium or hot-boxing their spray painted van, Emily, Tucker and Ross are just all-around awesome folk that want to show you how much fun it is to do what you love. After a night at the Cake Shop, we headed back to my [...]

Sometimes just blurting out what you think is more fun than actually thinking things through and formulating an opinion. I was down in the basement tonight listening to records and what follows are my stream of conscious reviews of what I listened to. (Slumberland/Dulc-i-Tone) Mantles - Bad Design - Cave-like rock, reverb vocals (looking forward to this trend winding down). Nice guitar solo. This as poppy as Don't Lie, the best song on their album that came out on Siltbreeze. Mantles [...]

Real Estate played a bunch of shows at CMJ last week, one being the Chocolate Bobka / Underwater Peoples / Two Syllable showcase at the Delancy (basement - grotty sweat box playing host to lo-fi bands/ upstairs - DJs playing mashups and Lady Gaga). They went on around 3am, after great sets by Holiday Shores, Pill Wonder , Frat Dad and some others. Everyone was pretty drunk and sweaty by this point, but they managed to play one of the best sets of the week, where [...]

Sweetest Day didn't go well for me. On one hand, I woke up entirely hung over from Friday's Dr. Dog show at Beachland. We had a little Citizen Dick reunion of sorts, with Rob, Brian, and Justin all converging at my place after the amazing set the medicinally astute canine put on for us. Plenty of brews were enjoyed, and after a slew of heated musical and professional debates, I went to bed knowing the morning wouldn't be too sweet. This was correct because my liver was smoking a cigarette next to me when I rolled out of bed. Lesson [...]
It sounds like the scuzzy jams of Ty Segall written and performed by a bunch of kids who skipped their morning Adderal.

Sawyer Carter Jacobs puts together one mean promo package. Contents: the a/b sides to Frat Dad 's upcoming 73 and Brendon Mitchell's 4th grade homework assignment (complete with a variety of drawings). I could try to encapsulate their sound in my own words, but Sawyer's verse is righteous as fuck. " Frat Dad is like going over Niagara Falls in a barrel, then landing in a Middle School Cafeteria... on Mexican Pizza Day. They're a couple of bad ass, good for nothing, down low, mother fucks. They don't give a shit." Check our previous dig for [...]

I've been mulling through this idea for the past couple of weeks, and finally decided to yank the plug on the weekly mixtape installment. Not saying I'm done making mixes all together, but I feel like they should be more of a novel concept. Maybe something seasonal? Not sure, don't really want to obligate myself to anything. But, when then mixtapes do roll-out I'll make sure you guys know about it. Dem Hunger - Charles Shit Drake ft. Nipsey Hustle - Killer O'Spada - Time (DA SUCKSHAFT Remix) [...]
by kevin diamond As the heat burns us and boils our insides, we need a run through the sprinklers, or a bucket of ice water over the head to remind us that we're human and we're attached to this earth. The hype filter this week is designed to be that ice cold bath you are looking for. We start with Nude Beach's self-titled single, a slow burn of drum machine bass and snare, and reverb-laden vocals, with a singular guitar line fleshing out the [...]

Underwater Peoples is on a roll with their latest signings; Frat Dad is a perfect example of this good fortune. Coming from the same magical land as "The Boss," this duo manifests a psychedelic cacophony of melodies that invite you to sing-a-long in delight. The band only has one show coming up which is the Underwater Peoples Showcase in Brooklyn next week, which is sure to be a veritable monsoon of dischord as it features Ducktails, Real Estate and Beach Fossils to name a few. I suggest if you are in the area, you take full advantage [...]
Casiokids - "Gomur Mamma" ; Tonight we get to see Casiokids on the Seaport stage, but before that we have been treated to the B-side from their recently released single, "Finn Bikkjen!". The song another series of impressive arrangement from the Norwegians, a song built on strange space age sounds and loops, but on that will no doubt have you dancing on Pier 17 tonight. Grade : B - Brown Recluse Sings - "Contour and Context" ; Summery, light, and pleasant right from [...]
