"Gio Gio" By Tiger Love. Tiger Love's name suggests they could well be Charlie Sheen 's favourite band to compliment his redoubtable ' tiger blood.' However, they are in point of fact a London based collective formed in 2010 by brothers Roy, Gigi (Originally from New York), and Loral. They produce songs so catchy that even Sir Douglas Bader and Fred Titmus may have been induced to tap their imaginary toes to Tiger Love's hard to resist grooves who are unquestionably funkier than Funkadelic getting their funk [...]
Sorry-the woman singing is not credited on the album.

" Fred Astaire " by The So So Glos . The video, directed by Matthew Greeley, sees the band in full suits in ties, as well as a dancer portraying Fred Astaire, dancing and spinning through New York City in full tuxedo and top hat. "Fred Astaire" - The So So Glos from Matthew Greeley on Vimeo .
It's really nice to see a DIY group like the Todd Patrick-beloved band The So So Glos making a go at legitimizing their careers for the greater audiences, as this video, with a dancing Russian named Misha in a tuxedo for their song "Fred Astaire" (go figure) would seem to be lurking toward. Hell, the [...]

On TCM in the coming week, Nov 1-7 - some highlights from the schedule, with commentary Phew. Halloween is over - just returned from an exhausting trek with a friend and her kids along D Street in Petaluma - jammed sidewalks and houses that had really gone all out - haunted houses, masses of decorations, movies being shown on walls and in windows, sound effects and dry ice fog. It's been a busy time for films as well, this past week, and while I got to see at least one film each with Dracula, [...]

Another track for you to check out from NYC's The So So Glos . Their EP (Low Back Chain Shift) is out now, catch them on the road or at CMJ. We'll get their video for 'Fred Astaire' up here as soon as we discover it. Check out Fred Astaire .

Having weaselled out of our Fresh Air show yesterday because I was too busy trying to get Loch Lomond sessions edited and generally ready to go away on holiday, so Ruth missed out on her weekly opportunity to take the piss out of me, which must have been a shame for the poor lass. Anyhow, we decided to remedy this by recording a podcast for publishing while we're away, so Ruth came round with a CD of twenty songs and we bumbled our way through an evening chattering nonsense (as per usual). We're a teeny-tiny bit [...]

'Can't Sing, Can't Act. Balding. Can Dance a Little.' You might recognize that as the oft-quoted evaluation from an early talent scout, giving his opinion about the then-young performer Fred Astaire. The punch line, of course, is that he became one of the biggest stars of all time; and while his career was certainly anchored by his nonpareil dancing skill, he wasn't half-bad at the other stuff. As is often the case with legendary performers, Fred Astaire's story is a familiar one, but I thought I'd focus on one interlude in his long career [...]

I promised a while back to follow up the first two New York mixes with one in black & white. In the interim, the two Christmas in Black & White mixes ( here and here ) were quite popular, so I hope that this collection of songs about or set in New York, spanning 30 years, will find an audience. And I hope that some of these songs will inspire the listener to seek out more music by some of the artists who are largely forgotten now. [...]

Austin's Kat Edmonson won me over before she'd even taken to World Cafe Live's upstairs stage. I was excited to see bongos on stage, even more so when when the upright bass appeared, but it was the trumpet that assured me I was in for a great set. Edmonson's introduction by headliner Kate Schutt solidified just what the crowd was in for. Schutt recounted the first time she saw Edmonson in Austin, saying she was "thoroughly impressed and overwhelmed" and that Edmonson is "on of the most importmant singers to come along." It was a big [...]

Fred Astaire: Top Hat, White Tie and Tails [ purchase ] This classic comes from the 1935 Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movie Top Hat , which was their most successful collaboration and also Astaire's second-most successful film of his career (second only to Easter Parade ). All the songs in the film, including this one and the even-more-famous "Cheek to Cheek," were written by Irving Berlin.

MP3 : Fred Astaire - Night and Day (1932) From Cole Porter's Gay Divorce. Never mind that the singer is an orally-fixated insatiable uber-libidinal stalker type, the song works.
