If Freelance Whales were a coffee, they would undoubtedly be a blend. Their sound tastily combines the aged, nostalgic warmth of folk with the smooth sweetness of pop. It's relaxing, yet it's energetic. It's ethereal, yet it's urban. It's conventional, yet it's cool. South American coffee growers can harvest their crop to it and Starbucks customers can receive their warm espressos to it. Oh, Bonnaroo . You do it to us every time. Year by year, over 80,000 people make the pilgrimage to a field in the middle of nowhere, Tennessee to camp for four days in the blistering heat with little to no refuge and more dust than anyone should be able to handle. That sounds kinda miserable, right? How then, you might ask, did Bonnaroo make it to this, their 10th year? How much do I love Freelance Whales ? A lot. This latest track is a cover of a 19802s Devo tune, Girl U Want . This cover version definitely has its own sound compared to the original , which wouldn't find itself in a Sunday Supplement slot in a hundred years!
