Who : The Clean Title : Mister Pop Release Date : September 8th Label : Merge Records Thoughts : It has been 8-years since we last had a truly new record from New Zealand's The Clean, but a good portion of their fan base probably doesn't even realize it's been that long. That's because of the fantastic 2003 compilation of The Clean's material simply titled Anthology . That record made a believer out of a lot of people [...]

[mp3] Dodos: "Walking" Great news folks. Last year The Dodos killed us with their Frenchkiss debut Visiter . Not only was it organic and melodic, it was driving and passionate, melding folk and country with floor-tom pounding and cymbal bashing rock. This morning we saw that they have their follow-up album Time to Die coming on 9/15 again on Frenchkiss. Great news indeed. For this outing they enlisted ace producer Phil EK (Built To Spill, Fleet Foxes, [...]

In the fall of 2007 Brooklyn-natives were privy to the exciting new synth-filled sounds of the duo now known as MGMT. The Management, as they were then known, were so unabashedly open about their hipsterness that they quickly began to fill the void that the Steve Aokis and Ed Bangers were losing ability to (because of their newly found mass appeal). MGMT found its way into obscurest playlists, 2007 year-end lists, every festival on the face of the planet and lemon-flavored-soda commercials, all within months. By the time their debut album Oracular Spectacular actually came out in 2008, it [...]

The Dodos (San Francisco, CA) [MP3] The Dodos - Fools Rock Insider and The Dodos go way back. The band played several Rock Insider presents shows back in 2007 and 2008 and have since gone on to take over the indie world with their amazing debut Visiter . The band took a break from touring earlier this year and are currently in the studio with producer Phil Ek (Built to Spill, the Shins, Fleet Foxes). The band hope to [...]

It was February 2007. Michael Angelakos, a student and singer/songwriter at Emerson College, was looking for that special gift to give to his then girlfriend for Valentine's Day. What he came up with were six songs recorded under the alias Passion Pit . The songs failed to woo his lover, but spread like wildfire at Emerson and caught the collective interest of the student body. It was then that Angelakos realized he had something big on his hands. The six songs morphed into an EP named "Chunk of Change" and was officially released in late September 2008. [...]

A month after self-releasing his fantastic Hospice LP, we spoke to Peter Silberman , the brainchild of The Antlers , from his bedroom in Brooklyn. Now he gets to do it all over again (not the interview, releasing Hospice ), only this time with a label to help him out. Silberman was soft-spoken and modest regarding his band's influx of media attention from the likes of NPR , The Wall Street Journal and Pitchfork . The Tripwire's Michael Cranston was [...]

A lot can happen in a short period of time. We know. Now, The Antlers know. NPR named The Antler's recent record, Hospice , Best Album of 2009 "So Far," which is, I guess, saying something. It is an amazing record though. So what's happening to frontman/founder Peter Silberman and these Brooklynites? They just signed to Frenchkiss, a label who definitely has a forward-thinking ear for the business -- case-and-point...Passion Pit. The Antlers are going to release a remastered version of Hospice on Aug. 18 and are embarking on a nice set of [...]

Passion Pit - Moth's Wings
Frenchkiss Records will release the debut full-length from Brooklyn island-indie ragamuffin Sean Bones (nee Sullivan) on July 21st. What started last summer as the musical component to a lighthearted fashion line quickly morphed into a full-fledged project for Sullivan. As he patiently awaited the release of his former act Sam Champion's Heavenly Bender, Sullivan dove [...]

I've been digging on Passion Pit since their debut ep, Chunk of Change , dropped last September. Their newest release to be, Manners , has been drawing tons of hype and is now blog/buzzworthy. They have since dropped some great singles and probably one of my favorite videos of the year (so far...). Check out one of their new single's, "Moth's Wings". Also, Pasta Primavera has some new tunes available. Manners is set to release May 18th via Frenchkiss Records . Passion Pit - Moth's [...]
Clearly, we love Passion Pit . Manners drops May 19 in the US on Frenchkiss. Love the children's choir back up singers. Scroll down to check out the awesome video from Passion Pit's tourmate, Ebony Bones . Both of their sounds would work brilliantly in concert, one of which we would love to catch.

All stemmed from a super sweet gift to a girlfriend (aka the Chunk Of Change EP), Passion Pit has caught the ears of many in the blog/radio world including me. So it's nice to see they signed with Frenchkiss here in the US (Columbia in the UK) and are set to release their debut LP Manners on May 26th (May 18th in the UK). Check the tracklist after the jump and this right now: mp3: Passion Pit - Sleepyhead Manners Tracklisting: [...]

Near the end of last year, my iPod was practically frozen on Passion Pit's debut EP, Chunk Of Change . The massive super hit, "Sleepyhead," left me craving more. My cravings will be satisfied soon now that the band has announced details of their debut LP. Manners will be available everywhere on May 26th via French Kiss Records. Check out the track listing: Make Light Little Secrets Moth's Wings The Reeling Eyes as Candles Swimming in the Flood Folds in Your Hands To Kingdom Come Sleepyhead Let Your [...]
Famed indie rock band Lifter Puller have recently announced plans to put out an anthology on the band's website. Not much information is given, except for that it's planned to be released in 2009 along with a book. The band released Fiestas & Fiascos in 2000 before breaking up. Guitarist and vocalist Craig Finn and bassist Tad Kubler went on to form The Hold Steady , who released Stay Positive in 2008.
Digital crate-diggers, HEAR YE! In 2008, dost thou only listen to music released in 2008? (NO!*) Dost thou listen to music issued in other decades, perhaps even The Nineteen Eighties? (YES!) Dost thou discovereth music after yon peers hast discovered it, and you're all embarrassed when they declareth it "so last year?" (SOMETIMES!) BE NOT EMBARRASSED. These are 30 albums [...]
