This teenage British duo's only record, not surprisingly deemed a failure upon its release with such an unappealing name (though of course we think it's cool), came out in 1971. Which, as you may know, some here say could be one of the BEST years for this -or any- genre. Influenced by the likes of Deep Purple, Zeppelin, and Pentangle, Fresh Maggots really don't [...]

Ah, 1971. The Vietnam war was still rolling along, Ólafur Jóhannesson formed a government in Iceland, and somewhere on the East Coast of these United States, I was still a decade-plus away from being born. Unfortunately, this mild setback cost me valuable time that could have been spent enjoying the unholy number of stunning records that were released in '71. That's why today, in 2007, if I hear that a a record was released in '71, I always buy it. There must have been something (drugs) in the air (drugs) back then (drugs) that inspired musicians around the world (drugs) [...]
For all the gentiles who enjoyed their fancy holiday dinners this evening, I ask that you please enjoy this hollow chocolate Easter bunny of songs. I guess there's no delicate way to put this, so I'll just come out and say it: six times in the past two weeks I've gone out to eat with friends and found hairs in my food. In fact, it happened twice yesterday, and that's not counting the dog hair that was in my morning single-serving of Mott's Apple Sauce (yes, I am four years old). Ironic, because I went out to eat with Jack and Ken last night, and one topic [...]

A large portion of lost classics are from the folk genre. This can be a pretty dicey area to wade through especially considering the sheer numbers of folk artists that sprung up during the 60's and 70's; many of whom can get too encumbered by the hippy spirit of the day. Hippy ideals notwithstanding, there were some great folk records made during this time period that had little or no support at the time. These are two great and varied examples. Fresh Maggots - Fresh [...]
