Here is the podcast where I countdown the top 10 Artists that Last.fm said I listened to most over the 12 month period ending when I looked at the chart on 12/31/10. I wish Last.fm could keep a record of these things by year, too. Maybe they do...hmm...I'll have to check that out. I'm going to start putting an alphabetical "Featuring" list in these posts. And also making use of the label function, so if you want to see every post (starting with this one) that I talk about Doomtree, for example, you can click Doomtree in the [...]

Each month Skatterbrain features a monthly mix, and I absolutely love the covers. The cover for Blogophilia 23 is my feeble attempt at deriving inspiration from Skatterbrain. I try… It’s hard to believe a whole month has passed by since the last Blogophilia post. This month’s mix has songs featured on the Dadada by the Charming Youngsters, The Red River, Wildlife, Lykee Li, The Rest, and The Foreign Films. There are also new tracks from the Decemberists, Say Hi, The Heavy, The Tallest Man on Earth, [...]
So - Kristian Matsson, aka The Tallest Man On Earth. Is there a more distinctive voice out there? If so, I'm yet to hear it. It's unmistakable. I heard 'The Wild Hunt' for the first time just as I pulled into my driveway the other day, and found myself unable to exit the car until it was over. It's the type of song that messes me up - all wistful and hopeful, with a melody that just gets me , making me feel both happy and sad all at once. I love it. The Wild [...]

Friday Mile ::: photo by Abbey Simmons We don't want to jinx it, but 2010 has been pretty kind so far when it comes to local bands we love breaking up. Unfortunately, that doesn't include the playful harmonies and sweet ear-worms of Friday Mile, who announced yesterday that their July 16th show at Columbia City Theater [...]
Hannah of Friday Mile ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Since 2004 Noise for the Needy has been an annually anticipated event in the Seattle music scene and this year is no exception. Here’s how it works. You and your friends go see a concert and proceeds from that event go to a local charitable organization. Is [...]

[ download ] [tweetmeme] Jace Krause and Hannah Williams, the two songwriters behind Seattle's Friday Mile , met in a music theory class years ago. However, as the songs on their debut full-length reveal, this is a bit misleading. Friday Mile's songs aren't concerned with with any sort of avant garde movement-there are no strange time signatures or brain-bending, unorthodox scales in this repertoire. No, their fascinations emanate directly from the more pop-friendly boughs of that great musical tree, branches that have spoked out in the form of artists such as Stevie [...]

From their 2009 release Good Luck Studio Jace Krause and Hannah Williams met in college during a music theory class. It was three years later when they connected again, a chance encounter during a show at Seattle’s famed Crocodile Cafe in 2005. After the show, they traded songs in William’s apartment. He liked her voice. She liked his songs. They decided to form a band. The band has taken many trips up and down the West Coast, where they encountered friendly hot dog [...]
Drew Grow & The Pastors' Wives ::: photo by Abbey Simmons Earlier this week, I testified to the spine-tingling spirituals of Drew Grow & the Pastors' Wives calling them my favorite live discovery of 2010. The impetus of my confession were two brand new songs from the band, and I'm so pleased I get to share [...]

The gloom and despair of Seattle and weather have wrought a delightfully rockin ' alt-country band. Friday Mile, blend glorious boy/girl harmonies over Eagles-like melodies. "FYI" charms with it's pop sensibilities as they tell a certain-someone wasn't missed and their name didn't even come up at last night's party. MP3: Friday Mile - FYI

Even niet moeilijk doen. Toegankelijke popliedjes willen we. Friday Mile uit Seattle levert ze op Good Luck Studio, dat deze week is verschenen. Een groepje rond een man en een vrouw, Jace Krause en Hannah Williams. MP3: Friday Mile - Lives of Strangers Friday Mile op MySpace Subscribe in a reader

There are some albums that are just absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. No songs that I would even DREAM of skipping over. I recently came across an album from a band that I'd never heard anything from: Friday Mile. The description that I read about them compared them to "The Magic Numbers, Rilo Kiley, and even Fleetwood Mac" and I was interested. The first track "Handle It" is the ideal opening track. It has a nice, plucky piano bit and it gradually adds drums and guitar. And then the male voice (Jace Krause) comes in and it's [...]

I figure the last day of the month is as good a time as any to dump out the mailbox. Start fresh next month and all that. A lot of stuff from bands that are going to be at SXSW next month. I’ll be not attending again this year, so who plays or doesn’t play isn’t going to much affect me. Just send me good music if you want me to post it. Kthx. I’m gonna jump right in with my pick of the litter. The Pack A.D., from the home of the 2010 Winter [...]

I guess it would have been appropriate to wait until Friday to post Friday Mile but really I just couldn't wait that long (correct, one day) to share them with you. This five-piece from Seattle comes from the folk vein, but don't let that genre word limit your expectations of their music. They incorporate some wonderfully poppy elements, none more so than the achingly gorgeous vocal harmonies - the lead singers, Jace Krause and Hannah Williams complement each other perfectly. They're playful with ooohs and aaahs but keep the sound grounded enough so that we can listen seriously. [...]
