With a name like Friends Electric it's not very likely that this Welsh four-piece are going to be playing trad folk or heavy rock. Ever since they sneaked into a Soulwax show in 2006 the band realised that it was time to drop the guitars and embrace the synth. Too often the race is on to only find the freshest new sound, whatever that could be. I'm not convinced Friends Electric is doing anything "new", but I'm also not convinced that that in itself is a bad thing, especially give the strength of "Wall of Arms." Sure it channels the best of Ellie Goulding and Penguin Prison rather than Gary Numan, but it's a pretty damn solid track that totally wins me over from the start. Friends Electric - "Wall of Arms"
Kelis' Acapella has been on my iPod for a few weeks, and frankly I can't get enough. Yes, I hated "Milkshake" and know little else by her, but frankly Acapella is a stormer that has been my crystal meth for a few weeks. This remix by Friends Electric from sleepy Neath in Wales makes it sound even bigger, and a track that no doubt will see us dancing through the weekend.
