Friends – I'm His Girl

Friends – I'm His Girl Some might be tempted to write-off Friends' campy pastiche as sardonic, but to do so would be to miss the point-Friends is a band that is about playing with stock musical tropes rather than a band that's poking fun at something. Sure, the slide-and-pop baseline in "I'm His Girl" is almost hilariously funky and this video seems to be mocking a certain time and place, but you never get the sense that Friends takes themselves too seriously. It's that carefree confidence combined with Samantha Urbani's playful but sexy vocals that make this track more than just a catchy [...]

My RV life

My RV life As most of my friends in Sweden go to bed at midnight almost all activity on fb comes to a stall at 6pm my time. So lately I've been hanging out on iRV2 instead. There's always things going on there. Like how about this thread "Possibly diet coke exploding in camper?". There's a lot to learn if you're new to RVing too. I read a lot about tires and batteries these days. A while ago we actually crafted insulation for our vents after I read about it on the forum. Comes in handy now that it's cold [...]

New album pre-order!

New album pre-order! The Owls Are Not What They Seem "...Not dread but a connection with our past is what we feel, a thread running back to the artless creatures we once were when we first heard the oboe-like notes from the Great Horned Owl. In Paleolithic times, we suspected omens in its voice, heard in it questions we were unable to articulate, but which have stayed within us, incomplete and taunting. We are certain that ancient, taloned bird sees what we do not, knows what we never will. And some night, silent as a gliding feather, [...]

Managing Your Facebook Privacy Settings

Facebook Privacy
One of the biggest concerns I hear people voice about Facebook is its privacy settings. People get frustrated every single time there is a change in Facebook's privacy policy – which is very often – because they're left feeling exposed. The trend at Facebook is to make everything public by default, so if you want to keep things hidden, you'll have to figure out how to do it yourself. Here are a few tips for navigating Facebook's privacy settings. Sharing on Facebook – You can share content with everyone (default), friends of [...]

[Listen] – Friends – "A Thing Like This"

[Listen] – Friends – "A Thing Like This" Tweet Listen to Friends ' new song "A Thing Like This" that they performed live for BBC Radio One's Maida Vale sessions. Since we already tagged them as Ones To Watch for 2012 we've started dutifully tracking Friends ' every move. Right now for instance they're traversing the U.K.'s majestic waterways by paddle boat, taking in the scenery the best way known to man. [...]

New: Friends – A Thing Like This

New: Friends – A Thing Like This I remember seeing Friends live really vividly, if I hadn't already had my sexual awakening, (in 2008 roughly), then that would have been it. Sexual energy clung to the whole performance, each track more forward and inviting than the last. But anyway, I digress, the real reason you're here is to hear a new Friends track. The band just graced Huw Stephens with their presence on his Radio 1 show, which included a live session from Maida Vale complete with a brand new track; ' A Thing Like [...]

Friends – "A Thing Like This"

This last year has been very good to Friends : The Bushwick band earned their BTW in April; they went big in October compliments of the "I'm His Girl" video and a hailed CMJ ; and have 2012 all teed up with a debut LP on the way, a major label contract (Columbia Records, I believe), and a warm embrace from the UK via the NME and via the Elton John, who insisted they attend his holiday party because that is a thing Elton John does to fashionable young things from NYC/Eminem. [...]

Check Out: Friends – "A Thing Like This" Just last week, we introduced you to Brooklyn funk-pop troupe Friends . This week, the group stopped by BBC Radio 12s Maida Vale studios for a session with host Huw Stephens. Along with playing their single "I'm His Girl", the band debuted a new track entitled "A Thing Like This". I'm his girl (heerlijkste basslijntje van de laatste jaren) wordt gevolgd door nieuwe song A Thing Like This . BFF's, pretty please ? (via disco naïveté)

Friends - Maida Vale Session

Friends - Maida Vale Session Friends ' session at the Maida Vale studios aired last night on Huw Stephens' show on BBC Radio 1 ; the Brooklyn alt-pop'ers played the almost irresisteble I'm His Girl and a brand new song titled A Thing Like This . They also mention the album is likely to drop this Spring, laugh at how Huw Stephens says "Europe" and talk a bit about Elton John. Stream the full session and interview below.

mp3: teen runnings – why does everybody do?

mp3: teen runnings – why does everybody do? My favorite Japanese band, formerly known as Friends , has changed their name to Teen Runnings due to the whatever Brooklyn band that took the name. Why Does Everybody Do is of the same ilk - that is, sublime reverb-pop - as all their previous jams under the name Friends. Succulent and sweet, the straightfoward riffs are like fuzzy waterfalls, chugging along in perfect accord with the reverbed-out 'ooh oohs' of the doo-wop-pop vocals. As always, this is awesome. mp3: Teen Runnings - [...]

[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Friends

[Ones To Watch] – Introducing – Friends Tweet We briefly mentioned Friends back in October , but allow me to introduce them properly. The latest sticky-sweet girl pop band hails from the unlikely location of Bushwick, an often sketchy and recently-hip area of Brooklyn. In a way, it make sense as girl-pop, as a genre, is often sketchy and recently hip. Fortunately for Friends, the moniker that they finally settled on, their particular brand of electro-dazed pop is verging on excellent. Though they haven't even dropped [...]

Listen Before You Buy's Ones To Watch For 2012

Listen Before You Buy's Ones To Watch For 2012 Tweet With 2011 behind us and as we've looked back on the year with multiple year-end lists, it's now time to focus on what's to come in 2012. Below you'll hear tracks from some brilliant artists, some of which you will already have heard of and hopefully some who are new to you. A few of the artists have already released albums in 2011 but were criminally under-covered by sites and blogs, but that will change in 2012 as more people discover their immense [...]

Friends – "I'm His Girl"

Friends – "I'm His Girl" There are very few bands that I would actually describe as sexy. Friends is one of those bands, as is apparent with their song "I'm His Girl" . Simple, syncopated drum beats and a strong groovy bass line with a generally danceable sound makes for a VERY sexy tune. In a way, it reminds me a little of M.I.A. I hope you like it. Look forward to many more wonderful tunes from them. SUPPORT THE ARTIST - Chuck
