Human eyeballs are attracted to disaster. Whether it's rubberneckers on the road, or Reality TV, we all want to know; What's happening to them? Maybe the same is true of music videos that lean heavily toward the "odd" column. Personally, if it's downright frightening, I don't include it on Moving Pictures. Sometimes though, [...]
The fourth full-length release from Scotland's indie folk rock act Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse - finds the band making their major label debut. After three well-received indie full-lengths and a couple of EP 's, Frightened Rabbit has delivered another solid album of emotive indie rock full of skittering guitars with honest songwriting that is a little less woebegone and more grandiose. What makes this album unique within their discography is that for the first time the rest of the band played a key role in the songwriting process, resulting in a more cohesive and polished sound. A few [...]

We got alot of love for Frightened Rabbit. When musing upon their new album, we called Pedestrian Verse "a collection of songs that are beautifully honest, superbly melodic and knowingly direct." 'Backyard Skulls' inparticular came in for praise: "Tracks such as the driving, anthemic ‘Backyard Skulls’ provide muscle, building on a rumbling bass motif and urgent drums into a melody so windingly confident it is easy to forget that Hutchinson is essentially singing about digging up people in his back garden, cooing “all our secrets are smothered in dirt underneath paving stones, lying, waiting [...]
So, I finished last week's countdown pretty much as early as I possibly could. I thought that that might mean I would also be able to finish THIS week's early and get myself into a situation where I was always way ahead of the recording schedule. But here it is, 1:17 am on Sunday morning and I'm finally getting around to posting the countdown I just finished recording. Oh well. Things come up, you know? And I'm sure I used the extra time that recording early freed up in very productive and efficient ways.... [...]

February should be dubbed ' Frightened Rabbit Month', should it not? The band released 'Pedestrian Verse' at the start of the month; read Carrie's review of the album here. Last week we showed you the video for 'Today's Verse' , the b-side to 'The Woodpile'. Having graduated from indie label Fat Cat to major Atlantic, there's no doubt the band must be gearing up for what will no doubt be their star turn at this year's SXSW. One of their appearances will include a visit [...]

I wrote a little bit about the new Frightened Rabbit album, Pedestrian Verse , prior to its release, and I praised it, because it's a very good album. But experiencing the singles as they are released (so far: " State Hospital ," " Dead Now ," " The Woodpile ," and now "Backyard Skulls") really emphasizes just how damn good these songs are. My one-sentence review of Pedestrian Verse is basically: Better than Winter Of Mixed Drinks , not as good as Midnight Organ Fight . But Midnight Organ Fight [...]

Hot off the success of their latest album 'Pedestrian Verse', Frightened Rabbit have unveiled a brand new video. This time, it's 'Backyard Skulls' that gets the video treatment before it sees a release as an EP on 24th March. Join the five-piece as they provide the entertainment at a rather sparsely populated school prom, which is saved when the school caretaker finds his groove. Before having a watch of the clip, lead singer Scott Hutchison has given a little bit of an insight into the track itself: "This song takes the idea of [...]

Despite front man Scott Hutchinson welcoming the audience (an audience that – uncharacteristically for the usually-sedate Cambridge – he would later go on to approvingly call both “very chatty” and “the weirdest audience I’ve ever played to”) to “ Frightened Rabbit ’s Valentine’s Extravaganza”, the band would not, perhaps, be the first choice for a date night on what is meant to be the year’s most “romantic” day. With a line-up [...]

This year's lineup features Rammstein, Queens of the Stone Age, Portishead, The National, Sigur Rós, Arctic Monkeys, Belle & Sebastian, Modest Mouse, Smashing Pumpkins, Tame Impala, Tegan & Sara, Tyler, the Creator, The Gaslight Anthem, Alt-J, Bloc Party, The Vaccines, British Sea Power, Frightened Rabbit, Grouplove, Of Monsters and Men, Jimmy Eat World, Bouncing [...]

I had every intention of reviewing this record in a timely manner but then I got caught up in it. It is pretty much all I've listened to in weeks and I keep finding more with each listen. I've come to the conclusion that Pedestrian Verse is one hell of an album. It's big and just keeps growing. Pedestrian Verse begins with a disarming falsetto piano track, "Acts of Man", cleansing the musical palette for what's to come. Frightened Rabbit couldn't have picked a better ambassador for the album than [...]
